I dunno, 90% of what Microsoft makes has the same safe garbage aesthetic and tone compared to their great stuff of the past.
Gears of Wars 4/5 is very different from the first game. There are no longer any stakes if all the fighting is done by robots and cities can be built like LEGO. Not to mention all 'survival horror' elements have been completely removed.
Sea of Thieves does nothing daring with its Pirate concept. All their games are moving in the same PG13 boring and safe direction. The HALO Ring looks like it has been pooped on by Minecraft.

I see a big difference between stuff like Lost Odyssey, Quantum Break, Ninja Gaiden Black / 2 and what they are focused on now.

You basically listed third party developed games with timed exclusivity or weren't developed by Microsoft studios

Halo 3, Kameo, Viva Pinata, Fable 2, B&K Nuts & Bolts, those all came out a few years from each other. Very colorful games. Halo 3 was more cartoony than CoD 4 or Killzone 2.

The issue with Xbox exclusives this gen was a quality and quantity issue. How the games were promoted or written is at the bottom of the list

I'm reading that Death Stranding was done in house and this was a port studio.


but honestly, reading up on this, it seems the main complaint/issue is that the game was made with 30fps in mind so all the animations were created at 30fps and lip-sync at 30fps, etc...and that doesn't seem like something that they can easily fix without basically remaking all the animations/lip-sync which would be way too high effort.

DS was made with 60fps in mind and PC in mind from the start so it didn't have this issue.


Anyhow, since I own Horizon on PS4 Pro and was finally gonna play it before HII, the 30fps stuff just makes the decision on whether to blow $40 on a double dip easy. Will just play it on the PS4.

I think the main issue with the port is they added dick-all to it graphically and you can't even notice what they did add when you select "Ultra" but it tanks performance anyways.

Just not a port anyone spent a lot of time and effort on it appears.

I mean they were hyping up the PC features right before launch. Looks pretty nice to me but I haven't played the PS4 version to compare so idk.

Control's 2nd expansion w/Alan Wake - August 27th.

The Alan Wake cameos in Control were really cool (there was a lot of them too). All the setup of the continuation of Alan Wake's story from his game was pretty hype for this second expansion. Definitely day 1 on this. Will probably sit down and play The Foundation expansion a few days before.

Wasn't a big fan of the Arkham games.  Played AK only....  Even though it's considered the worst of them, I only enjoyed it some, because it was free and I got to play as 1989 Batman. 

Suicide Squad?  Could give two hog shits for that IP.  Even though I'm not a comic book fan like I use to be, I can think of many other comic book characters they could've done instead.

It seems people like it from a 'it's so 'bad' it's good' kinda way.
Reminds me of the latest Terminator game in that regard. Mediocre at best but for the 'real fans' it delivers that future war experience they always wanted.

The F&F game sort of does the same thing where unlike previous games it's not just a racer but actually an action game that allows you to fight tanks with your car and is as silly as the movies.

It's a mediocre Metroidvania though, but the combat was fun at the time.
Rendered pointless by Arkham City imo.

I think Origins has the best story and boss fights, City probably has the best gameplay overall, and Asylum has the best map/unlock path

The Metroid aspect is way overblown for Asylum. It's incredibly handholdey and hence doesn't even come close to its inspiration. But it's a very good game. Only problem, the ending is so unbelievably bad, it soures the entire experience.

City is great. As has been said, it's more Zelda than your typical open world, unlike that trash Arkham Knight. Origins has the best bosses, story and art direction. Unfortunately the level design has stuck out to me as extremely bland on a replay, to the point that lots of it might as well be a walking simulator.

I think without the doors to hide loading, the first one would have flowed better for Metroid feeling, but yeah, the ending is ugh

Origins has too empty of map, and the fast travel isn't really that fast and hurts the feeling, I barely had any bugs with origins too, I quite loved it.
