ehy guys remember when i posted that site about JRPG and stuff? today it yield announcement's
first is an rpg called tales of last promise for psp, that has to be the most generic jrpg name, producer is one guy called yosuke uda who apparently worked on both nocturne and persona 3
here's a trailer

the second game they announced it's an rpg about black rock shooter, you might remember that video about the holographic virtual idol called hatsune miku from the outside link thread, apparently someone had the idea of turn the character into a cyber punk version and it caught on,scenario should be written by nojima also know as "that guy who worked on some final fantasy games" and the game should be directed by ninouu who is in full pedo mode, here's the trailer

4 other mysterious RPG announced for 2012
one is related to type-moon
one is related to a mysterious famous jrpg creator (maybe sakaguchi?)
one is related to a classic series
and one nothing knows about

:heart I've got some hardcore nostalgia for Sunset Riders. I used to play it with my cousins all the time on the SNES and whenever I went to the local arcades. Fucking awesome game.

In fact, I'm gonna get my cousins to play it with me tomorrow when I'm at my uncle's house since he has an arcade machine. Thanksgiving just got awesome. :rock

magus, Black Rock Shooter is basically The Last Ranker team and Niinou is not in pedo-mode.  He didn't direct criminal girls, only came up with the concept and produced it.  His last games were Last Ranker & 7th Dragon.

Look, it's probably Battlefield 3 but deep down in my heart, I want it to be the first Planetside 2 teaser.

The annoying bit is that most of these "trailers" will barely show any actual gameplay.

Did any of you weeaboos try Samurai Warriors 3?  I've only dabbled in musou games and am interested in this. Is it a good entry?

Very good, but you should wait and see if Samurai Warriors 3Z (PS3 port-up coming out in Japan in January) gets announced for the U.S.  Besides the improved visuals and bump to 60fps, it's also going to have new characters and content, which the Wii will be getting as an add-on XL disc.

Jikan De Fantasia got announced for the US

http://www.siliconera.com/2010/11/24/its-the-right-time-to-announce-jikandia-the-timeless-land/

i remember trying the japanese version for a kick and not being really happy at what was supposed to be the main gimmick... basicaly the idea is that you get to pick how long you want to stay in a dungeon,i tought the game would reward speed runs and that you had to beat the clock but actualy it's the other way around... the more time you spend on a dungeon, the better stuff you get,the game reward you for wasting time dilly-dalling in the same place which is incredibly stupid

The Witcher 1's combat sucked dick and Arkham Asylum had awesome combat.  Seems like an improvement to me.

Dragon Age 2 gets alot of flak because they got rid of the Baldur's Gate angle and are seemingly making the combat more like KOTOR.

Arkham Asylum has the best combat out of any western action game. They knew they couldn't deliver something deep and complex, so they took it in a completely different direction and did a great job with it. I respect dat.

It had a fair amount of depth if you were going for that 40 hit combo cheev.  I'm not going to say it was Bayonetta deep, but it still empowered the player and made him feel like a badass which is greatly appreciated.

Any change is an improvement.

Yeah, the combat was one of the worst things about The Witcher. It was slow, boring, and too reliant on precise button presses rather than any real strategy. This it's Dragon Age, where it's going from strategy, party-based combat to Arkham Asylum [at least for the console version, supposedly].

I'm not saying the change is bad, it just surprised me is all. I think it's awesome that they are taking cues from other games that they enjoyed. Japanese developers need to do more of this; outside of Suda/Mikami I'm not seeing many Japanese developers adapting.

Now if they can fix the awful backtracking and awful town layout from the first game, Witcher 2 could be glorious.

Also, I think I might be the only one that's still harbouring a faint hope that DA2's combat could turn out good.

of course. it's the sole reason I love DA's combat, because it plays like BG in 3d. I'm not a big fan of most 3d wrpg combat, but the infinity engine games are fun as fuck.

And yeah, Japanese games take notes and stuff from other games. I mean the whole premise of Dragon Quest to begin with was a simple take on Ultima/Wizardry/D&D for Japanese people on the Famicom.

GameStop hails 'first ever' DLC pre-order campaign

US retailer GameStop has announced it will be offering free bonus content with its upcoming pre-order option for Halo: Reach DLC - the Noble add-on pack.

The company is claiming it is the first retailer to offer pre-orders on DLC, as it attempts to see a percentage of digital revenues that it would ordinarily not be able to take part in.

And the company is incentivising shoppers to set up their pre-order at a GameStop store by offering an exclusive in-game item - the Mark V Spartan Flaming Helmet.

"Halo fans and gamers are looking forward to accessing hours of new gameplay and extending the Halo Reach experience," said GameStop president Tony Bartel. "We are excited to provide our customers with easy access to great, new digital content, and at a $10 price point, we believe it's a great value."

The content is released on November 30 in the US for $9.99, and customers must have a PowerUp Rewards account to take part.

Pre-order... for DLC... with an exclusive for purchasers through Gamestop... Christ. This is dumb on dumb.

No wonder why DQ9 was the worst one in the series since 2 :P

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I don't think Oblivion and Diablo are bad games at all, but the focus on grinding, collecting loot, multiplayer... instead of single player story, really hurt DQ9 as compared to the tighter, more-focused others

eh i'm not sure i see how DQ9 could have been better if it was an ARPG,it would still have a quest where you have to kill golems until you get lucky because they wanted you to keep playing as long as possible

besides we already have an awesome ARPG series,it's called monster hunter,it's the reason why they have to hamfist multiplayer in every rpg ever and you guys should give it a spin

and himu is being a drama queen, there are a lot of fine turn based rpg, heck the new golden sun get released like this week,i guess they don't count unless they are in a brand that has released at least 7 iteration...

Eh, too slow. I mainly want an ARPG Dragon Quest because I love the art, music, writing and venues of DQ games, mix that with the already incredibly addictive ARPG formula of something like Diablo or Torchlight and basically it's the game to end all games for me.

I'm hardly being a drama queen. There are more action rpgs than turn based rpgs, and while action rpgs are fine, I'm sick and tired of seeing,"Ya know what? This would be a whole lot better if it were an action rpg."

I didn't say turn based rpgs don't exist, but command based rpgs are getting fewer and fewer. Making DQ, the holy grail of command based jrpg, an action rpg, is not a solution.

arpgs have evolved and become Assassin's Creed, Peace Walker, Monster Hunter, Borderlands, etc...

Which is fine.

But the traditional j-arpg style is outdated, so either make a real turn-based rpg or make a pseudo-rpg action game.

Assassin's Creed 2 was pretty fucking amazing. Like, maybe I wasn't to keen on going to hunt for 'The Truth' but goddamn was it fun to assassinate people. Wish they did more with the poison, tho. I almost never used it because I didn't see a real benefit.

The Truth is the best part of the game, next to the ending. Nobody plays AC for the Italian setting.

No, making DQ an action rpg is not a solution to whatever issue people have with the games. DQ never was and never will be a Diablo clone. It's such a horrible suggestion to me. It's like suggesting Mario be a 2d shooter because you want a fast-paced 2d game.

Do traditional arpgs even exist anymore? You've got stuff like Tales of games, stuff like Disiddia, Demon's Souls, Monster Hunter;etc and the upcoming Parasite Eve, FF: Agito and more.

I don't think of Tales as arpgs but I'm just weird like that.  I mean literally they are, but because everything outside the in-battle is as traditional as it gets and even in battle you can order commands and stuff I think of them as traditional rpgs.  Same with Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile.  I'm not even sure what I'd call FFXII.

Why would anyone call FF12 an arpg? You don't have specific buttons for specific uses. It's a command based rpg with no transitions and real time encounter system.

I label anything with specific buttons for specific uses (sword swinging, blocking, jumping) an action rpg. Because that's what it is. Stuff like Valkyrie Profile that are a hybrid are more like psuedo action rpgs. They aren't pure action, but contain movement. But since I have ruled out that movement is not in any way an indicator of an arpg, I don't consider VP an arpg.

In any case, I really like the direction many j-arpgs are going, especially in the Parasite Eve 3 vein: that mix of turn based gaming with real time action. Fuck, I cannot wait for that game.

Rocket Slime is an action adventure, Dragon Quest Sword I haven't played but it's an on rails game with a sword, right?

Neither of which are "action rpgs" as I think of it. What I'm talking about is a traditional DQ experience with action combat.

Had DQ9 been an ARPG like it was originally planned to be, it would've been perfect. The game design of loot-based games doesn't work with turn-based combat. Too slow.
