Video games is a major hobby for a lot of nerds (myself included). That plus a lot of nerds don't have a lot of disposable income so they buy a console and need to know the company behind it will not screw them over. So a loyalty forms there.

Obvs brand loyalty exists everywhere anyways but it's compounded by the nerd culture.

That's not loyalty, that's desperation or blind faith. What has Sony done to inspire loyalty? In truth, this is closer to the weird, unfounded and unfathomable attacks based on religious beliefs. In my experience, the less well-considered and well-educated a person is about their religion, the more aggravated and defensive they'll become with those who contest them, and the more aggressively they'll try to convince others to convert.

^Sony didn't follow Microsoft's always online DRM and blocking used games.  I'm not saying Sony can't one day go, "fuck everything, firmware update 2.0 requires users to be online 24/7 365 and removes epilepsy warnings." But Sony didn't magically gain all this good will.  And people didn't wake up one day yelling "Fuck Microsoft!"...well some people did.  some people woke up yelling "Fuck Sony!" some people wrote articles about how the Ouya would win next gen  ???

honestly no one will remember this stuff by next year.  EA is voted worst company twice in a row, people are furious about Mass Effect 3...WHOAO NEW MASS EFFECT GAME 4 GAME GAME OMG WOW I NEED IT SHEPARD WREX LOL

A lot of people at GAF probably had the original Playstation as their first console and brand loyalty has stuck over the years.

Someone who was five years old when the PS2 first came out would be 18 years old right now. How mind-boggling is that?

one day 20somethings will be nostalgic for Angry Birds and Minecraft :goty2

I could probably just google it but I'm lazy so I'll just post this here and come back and check to see if anyone answered it later. I'm going to sell my PS3. But I need to know how to do a factory reset kinda deal on it so it has none of my stored information.

Thx in advance.

I downloaded the Fairy Fencer f demo off the Japanese Playstation Store last night...

Typical ugly Compile Heart game with lots of static cutscenes and overly cute loli characters. At least the main character is a guy this time.

you know next gen is a thing because there is a new final fantasy mobile game and somehow i didn't learn about it, in a thread about how mobile is the end of all of us on that other moronic forum :heh

also maybe i'm being paranoid but both the interface and "do stuff to make your unit attack" look sooooooooooo suspiciously to PAD  :neogaf

looking at more mobile tiles

wow it's like someone said "we know you liked FFT for the art and music so we made a social mobile rpg out of it :whoo"

So I'm an ebay nerd, but which one should I go with guys?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190960114234?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

or this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/360789328559?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

My problem (if you can call it that) is that the cheaper one has no picture so I don't know if it's the Ultimate Hits or regular cover. Yes I know, nerd problems. But also that it refers to it as a US/NTSC version. Now, that could just be an honest mistake from someone who doesn't care or know what the game is, but hey man I'm a noob here. The seller does have a great rating though.

Also I'm sure Mr. Gundam can answer this, but was Another Century's Episode R on PS3 that bad. Should you avoid it even if you've never played the game? Should I get Gundam Unicorn PS3 over it?

well i've only got an android phone recently, beside i actualy meant that in a positive manner for once,i know that i'm usualy against these sort of cheap imitation but dang that FFT wannabe is done really well, like that looks more like a FF game than the one above it :heh

actualy while we are in the argument, did you know FF6 art director has recently announced his own "kind of final fantasy mobile" ?

Unicorn is a legitimately good game. ACE R isn't that terrible, and should be dirt cheap by now.

So since Japan is moving to iOS only.  How does that even work?  Do these games get localized?  Can you access the JPN store and buy the import versions on a US ipad with a US credit card?

That's an interesting move for a product which is competing with a development environment which is always free (Unity), at least to use. There could be features or licensing differences which mitigate this but, at a glance, this feels like a half-measure.

Final Fantasy XI, Dragon Quest X and Final Fantasy XIV Crossover Detailed

The Massive Final Fantasy XI, Dragon Quest X, And Final Fantasy XIV Crossover Detailed

Square Enix is having a crossover between their three main MMORPGs that brings slimes into Final Fantasy XI’s world Vana’diel and Moogles into Dragon Quest X.

A sage from Dragon Quest X will take a Great Ark visit Final Fantasy XI looking for a lost slime. This will have a Monstrosity event - a feature that lets players control monsters - where you can play as a Blue Slime. You can also get special Slime gear.

Also, Spriggan, a monster from the world of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will suddenly show up in Vana’diel. It seems the Moogles can talk to Spriggans. Just like the Blue Slime, players will be able to control the Final Fantasy XIV monster using a Monstrosity. Players can get Spriggan equipment too.

Meanwhile in Final Fantasy XIV, Shantotto, a powerful Tarutaru black mage from Final Fantasy XI who has her own expansion pack, shows up in Eorzea. Players can fight Shantotto in a FATE (Full Active Time Event) and if you defeat her she can join you as a minion. Minions are basically Final Fantasy XIV’s pets, so it’s kind of weird having an all powerful mage reduced to that.

Another FATE has players fight Golems from Dragon Quest X and if you win you get a tiny Golem minion.

Because Shantotto is all powerful she also shows up in Dragon Quest X. If you help her find materials for black magic you can get a Chocobo hat.

A moogle from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will give Dragon Quest X players a quest too. Complete this and you can get a Cactaur Mask.

The crossovers being on December 11 with content from FFXIV and DQX meandering into Final Fantasy XI. Two more Final Fantasy XI events are slated for 2014. Dragon Quest X will have the Final Fantasy XI crossover between mid January and mid February. The Dragon Quest X and Final Fantasy XIV crossover (the moogle) will take place afterwards in mid February to mid March. The two crossovers for Final Fantasy XIV will take place in the end of January to early February 2014.

Japanese video game developer Neverland Co. Ltd. announced on its website on Friday that the company is suspending operations as of Friday and will in a few days start bankruptcy procedures in Tokyo District Court.

Neverland stated in its announcement that in recent years the industry has changed, and as a result the company's sales have been sluggish. Neverland added that repayments on loans from various banks had also become an excessive burden, and its financing efforts deteriorated. Neverland said it tried with a great effort to reorganize the company with sponsor support, but eventually its hopes for gathering more financing were dashed, and the company reluctantly had to make this decision to suspend operations and file for bankruptcy.

Neverland apologized to all those involved, including its creditors, and also thanked all its fans for their patronage until now.

Neverland Company was founded on April 14, 1993, and currently has 36 staff members. The company is mostly known for its Lufia, Shining Force, and Rune Factory series of games, but also produced a Record of Lodoss War game for the Sega Dreamcast, as well as the Chaos Seed, Estpolis, Disney's Magical Park, Egg Monster Hero, and Las-Boss Hunters games, and the Petit Rock Shooter game for the iPhone.

XSEED Games most recently released Rune Factory 4 for the Nintendo 3DS in North America on October 1.
