Japanese video game developer Neverland Co. Ltd. announced on its website on Friday that the company is suspending operations as of Friday and will in a few days start bankruptcy procedures in Tokyo District Court.

Neverland stated in its announcement that in recent years the industry has changed, and as a result the company's sales have been sluggish. Neverland added that repayments on loans from various banks had also become an excessive burden, and its financing efforts deteriorated. Neverland said it tried with a great effort to reorganize the company with sponsor support, but eventually its hopes for gathering more financing were dashed, and the company reluctantly had to make this decision to suspend operations and file for bankruptcy.

Neverland apologized to all those involved, including its creditors, and also thanked all its fans for their patronage until now.

Neverland Company was founded on April 14, 1993, and currently has 36 staff members. The company is mostly known for its Lufia, Shining Force, and Rune Factory series of games, but also produced a Record of Lodoss War game for the Sega Dreamcast, as well as the Chaos Seed, Estpolis, Disney's Magical Park, Egg Monster Hero, and Las-Boss Hunters games, and the Petit Rock Shooter game for the iPhone.

XSEED Games most recently released Rune Factory 4 for the Nintendo 3DS in North America on October 1.

Did something happen with import game shipments this week?  I see NCSX' shipments were delayed as usual, but even P-A didn't ship anything this week and most of the releases from Thursday have "Ships in one week" on them.

AmiAmi shipped my copy of SRWOG Infinite Battle on Thursday.

I saw some others saying the same thing I did elsewhere.  Something was definitely causing delays- I finally got a tracking number on Friday, but there was no activity on it until yesterday.  But even though it was picked up yesterday, it's already been delivered- it typically takes at least a day longer to get to me, not that I'm complaining!

I like Nomura, but I think Yoshida's art is preferable. Mostly, because the pretty high fashion stuff that Nomura puts out gets overdone sometimes. I really was hoping for another main FF with Yoshida's art behind it. Does the series have any other artist it can switch between instalments?

The other artists that have worked on the XIII games offer really nothing intersting. It just all seems like a bunch of random and nonsencial designs trying to emulate Nomura.

I hope Square can find another good artist so that FF is just not Nomura.

But I guess Yoshida is probably moving unto smaller projects. I wonder how future 14 expansions will go. I know he wasn't the only person on it, but he was the main art director and really the main reason 14 was appealing.

I like Nomura's 2D art but not his 3D art / the actual character models. Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts have such great character portraits but something feels lost in the transition to 3D

I'm not sure how people are being distinguished mentally-challenged. They have freelancers do their stories and  music, but when have they had a freelance artist do an entire mainline FF? What mainline FF game or FF game in general has had their art director be free lance?

S-E completely axed their music division and everyone they get now is freelance, iirc. Yoshida worked on how many main series FF's? Very few. Unless you count FF3 remake, FF4WOL, BD, FFTA, FFTA2, to be main series.

So he's only really got FFXII and XIV under his belt, and I doubt after XII and XIV - both colossal fuck ups in the production end - he'd want to do it again.

Plus, as Oscar said, Yoshida was one of the few remaining guys left from the original Quest team. Those were his bros.

Amano has done a lot of work as a freelancer. Yoshida can and will likely carry on the same tradition. That's why it's distinguished mentally-challenged people are raging: because this is good for everyone EXCEPT Square. Gamers get more games with pretty Yoshida art, Yoshida gets to do his own thing and likely with old cronies again, S-E still gets Yoshida action when they want to.

Amano does logos and promotional artwork. Thats hardly being the creative person behind the art. Sorry if I'd like Yoshida to do more then pr work on a FF game. You said people were being distinguished mentally-challenged, but how? I already acknowledged that writers and musicians have been freelanced so I'm not sure why you felt the need to explain that. My question is what free lance artists have been used as the main creative person behind a FF game? Doesn't seem like either. Could it happen, but it dosen't seem likely.

Yeah he did few main FF games. Thats a shame, that's why him leaving sucks. Its doubtful he'll do another one. Thats a shame. Did he want to do another one? I doubt it, 14 was probably tiring. And I'm sure Square would have done anything to keep him, since I'm sure his work is the main appeal of this game they've spent tons of many on twice. Even if he didn't that dosen't change the fact that it's a real shame that we won't see another main FF game form him.

Yeah I'm sure we'll get games form him. Mobile games. Oh boy.

Unfortunately both Walmart and Target no longer do no receipt returns for media. I tried that already in hopes that due to the holidays they might have relaxed that policy.

Improving a bit each time I try. Easy to get frustrated but just do short daily sessions and work at it a bit. Hardest part is getting the fingers where they need to be since it takes a really specific grip.

you know i kinda regret poking fun at this because it's actualy enjoyable... all of the scenario are really short (20 minute at best) and it's hilarious to see namco character reimagined as visual novel stereotypes with troubles and stuff... for example everybody avoid the mappy cat because cats in mappy are the villain, and the galaga ship plays the role of the spoiled rich girl that nobody understand :lol

i think the writer themself realized how silly everything it is because all the scenario ends in the same way, some tragedy happens then 8-bit pacman comes from nowhere and tells you to "be true to yourself" even when it makes no sense :lol, then somebody kidnap's him and you and the character you picked go save him

one special mention goes to the lolo (klonoa partner) scenario

spoiler (click to show/hide)
they reworked her as a depressed bitter person suffering from abandonment issues and it's kind of a downer when compared to the other scenario where you tell the galaga ship that "she has a great hull"

(Image removed from quote.)

They cobbled together some Wii U-like stuff:

Quote
You register the PSP/Vita for remote play, but this is not remote play per se. The PSP/Vita screen is intependent of what's displayed on the PS3 screen.

The PS3 is still the main game, but the PSP (or Vita) displays sub information like the labyrinth map outside battle (with number of tiles completed as well as the percentage), or the character full stats (affinity, etc) when selecting in battle, or the monster picture and full stats (with drops) as you choose which to attack. In towns/Schools, it shows the overworld map as explored with a marker for where you are at the moment. When none of that applies, it shows a really nice stat summary screen that shows how many of what you've killed, times, etc. It's really neat, and should have been done on an RPG long before now. I'm sure we'll get feedback to make it even better in the next title we use it on. We'll have a video up of how it works (with the PSP/Vita screen inlaid on the PS3 screen to give a good idea of what you actually see while playing) soon.
