I spend time at work sometimes just going through my sheet and seeing what it goes for. I can probably buy a car at this point. That might be exaggerating.

I think pricecharting takes the average of completed listings, but you should definitely double check for yourself. Most JRPG fetch a good value.

Yeah, I'm not just using their loose value. I'm going to all the individual sites and checking the prices myself. I had no idea Mega Man 1 NES went for so much, I paid like $10 for this cart years ago.

yeah mm1 is insane.  could have insulated a house with cheap copies of it not too many years ago, now it's $80

good list, all i would want is god hand but looks like demi called it

Got around to figuring out my rpg backlog since it's the main genre I enjoy and play.  Usually average about 6-12 rpgs cleared a year.  This year my goal is to finish 1 rpg a month (along with a few short indies/AAAs), so 12 rpgs a year for the next 5 years and catch up on a lot of quality stuff:

The Witcher (need to finish it)
The Witcher 2
*The Witcher 3
*SRWZ3-2
*Xenoblade 2
*Bloodborne
Pillars of Eternity
Wasteland 2
Shadowrun Dragonfall
*Shadowrun HK
Divinity OS
Dead State
Might and Magic X
Mass Effect 3
Dragon Age 1
Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age 3
Skyrim
Avadon
Vampire the Masquarade
Arc Rise Fantasia
Nier
Last Remnant
Bravely Default
*Bravely Default 2
Ao no Kiseki
Nayuta no Kiseki
Sen no Kiseki I
Sen no Kiseki II
Valkyria Chronicles 3
Soul Hackers
Persona 2 IS
Persona 2 EP
Tales of Xillia 1
Tales of Xillia 2
Tales of Destiny R
Suikoden V
DQVIIr
XIII-3 Lightning Returns
Disgaea D2
*Disgaea 5
God Paradox 2 (aka Zettai Hero Project 3)
Planescape Torment
Baldur's Gate 1
Bladur's Gate 2
Icewind Dale
Torchlight II
Neverwinter Nights 2
KoTOR 2 w/restore mod
Grim Dawn
FFXI
FFXIV
Grimrock 2
Freedom Force
Expiditions Conquistadors
Deus Ex
Front Mission 5
SRW MX
Baten Kaitos 2 (never finished it)
DQ 1
DQ 2
DQ 3

So far for this year I've already finished: Shadowrun Returns: Deadman Switch, Banner Saga ep1, Tales of Zestiria, and Zero no Kiseki.  My plan for the rest of 2015 is:

SRWZ3-2
Xenoblade 2
Bloodborne
The Witcher 1
The Witcher 2
Ao no Kiseki
Nier
Shadowrun Dragonfall
Pillars of Eternity

Maybe try to fit Divinity OS or Disgaea 5 in there as well.  So many good rpgs to play, but at 40-80 hours each it's a lot of time!  Any suggestions on rpgs in that list that should get moved to the top of the PLAY THIS FIRST pile because they're just so much better than everything else?

AC4 Black Flag is surprisingly enjoyable. I've never been a big AC dude, but this one deviates from the boring formula of the other games so greatly that it kinda is a completely different thing. If I'm not hugely burnt out after I'm done with this one I'll probably buy Rogue on Steam.

Bebs... Baten Kaitos: Origins, Soul Hackers, Nier, Witcher 1 (stick with it after a sloooow start), and Planescape would be my recommendations out of the games on the list that I've played. BKO is about 50 hours, the rest are around 30-40. Haven't played DQ7r but the original is amazing, but also a 120 hour game.

And DQ7r is all that same game but at 60 hours because of sped up stuff!  Definitely looking forward to playing it one of these months.  Yeah, I only have about 15 hours of Witcher 1 left so I'll definitely finish that one off by the time W3 is out.

If you like jrpgs and/or weird quirky Japan games it's worth learning the language just for the game library.  You get a lot of other good things out of picking up the language as well, but the expansive non-localized library of games is awesome.

I never bought the English release of EDF4 because I didn't want to farm for weapons again, but I'm not going to skip a remaster with new content, remixed missions (?), better graphics and frame rate, etc. At least I can use this as an excuse to start playing another character. I used the Ranger almost exclusively last time around because of the grind.

That being said, the grind isn't too bad until you start doing Inferno imo. That's when you start needing the strongest/rarest weapons to get through some of the missions, and farming them can be a real chore if you're unlucky. I'm pretty sure I didn't get a Lysander Z until I had 100+ hours on the clock, for example. :-\

falcom's gurumin is out on steam now: http://store.steampowered.com/app/322290

if you took part in the greenlight campaign you get it free:

Quote
Happy Launch Day, everyone!

We at Mastiff understand that there may have been some confusion regarding the instructions and steps required to be elegible for a free Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure Steam key.

When we announced the Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure greenlight campaign we promised a free code to everyone who voted for us, registered in the Gurumin group, and posted to let us know they had voted. But in the Gurumin group itself our instructions weren't clear. That left some users concerned that they wouldn't be receiving their free key.

We want to make sure that everyone is happy. So... We are awarding a key to EVERYONE who helped us get Gurumin through Steam Greenlight and ALSO to registered users who joined the Gurumin Steam group up through last week! This means that we are tossing the comment part out the window. We would rather give away a few extra keys to those of you who supported us than leave legitimate supporters who just failed to post empty-handed.

How awesome is that?!
Consider it a token of our gratitude!

To get your Gurumin Steam key, proceed to the following URL:

http://top3line.com/gurumin_steam_codes/

From the redemption page, click on the icon that says "Sign in through Steam" to sign in to your Steam account and receive your free Steam code for Gurumin!
Please note: Mastiff WILL NOT keep your Steam login information or use your profile data for any purpose other than checking for Gurumin Steam key elegibility.

Thank you all who participated and made this possible! And if you enjoy the game, please consider telling your friends about Gurumin. We need and appreciate your support!

Happy Adventuring!

So as I said my 3DS got stolen.
But now I'm going on a battery of like 7-8 flights in the next 3 weeks. Most of them are cross country so my laptop battery isn't going to last for the whole flight. So I sorta need a handheld (lol not gonna do toilet gaming, my phone will be dead in like an hour).  When you're on a plane so much you have to have something.

So I'm seriously considering replacing my old 3DS with a new one. I do like me some MonHun and 4 looks like they fixed most of what annoyed me in 3.

RANDOM FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS:

It really really urks me that so much of the western import game audience only plays and cares about shitty titty games.  Like the fact that on gaf, there's |OT|s for the boob game Senran Kagura (and a decent amount of replies) or some "fuck yo sister" visual novel, yet not an |OT| for something like Disgaea 5 or One Piece Musou 3 depresses the hell out of me.  Sometimes I feel like I gotta carry "spreading the word that Japan is not just about tentacle rape and actually has some good gameplay designers" mantra on my back sometimes.  I dunno, it's a first world problem but it's the same shit that got me out of the anime world since message boards became infested with creepers who only talk about panty shows whereas the posters that actually want to watch and discuss the more quality shows were a fewer and fewer minority.  :(

nobody is talking about kaizoku musou 3 or disgaea 5 because those are games that are confirmed to be getting localizations and are coming out in like a few months, I know KM3 is coming here in like august since I'm getting that. few people are just gonna piss away money importing those when they're coming here so soon. meanwhile it took us like almost 2 years to get senran kagura shinovi versus, and there's no confirmed localization for estival versus either.

also calling other games creepy while propping up disgaea, the home of 1000 year old bondage lolis who look like they're 7, is p hilarious

Mostly indie stuff, a lot of it's free on PS+ if you subscribe.  But good indie stuff that's perfect for flights and killing time like Binding of Isaac Rebirth or Trials.  But there's some good games Tearaway, Ys, Dangan Roppa, too and PS1 classics are nice.  It's a good system for travel imo other than the bulkiness so it won't fit in your pocket.

In the situation you're talking about, I'm mainly talking about the import community.  I don't expect people waiting for the western releases of games to be that interested in import discussion, but when you have a gaming message board with a pretty large size of posters, there's a group of 20-40 people who read/speak Japanese and talk about import games.  Stuff like Disgaea used to be a popular series so it's surprising that no one even made one post to talk about it (but it looks like a couple of people did import it besides me).  Tales of threads get a ton of posts and those games are known to being localized.  I'm sure someone will make an import Xenoblade X thread before I even post any impressions.

there isn't really an import community though. people import games when they take awhile to come out here or if they don't come out at all, there are very few people who waste money importing games that get confirmation of an english release coming in a few months after the JP version before the JP version is already out.

I'm not sure why you use the word "wasting money".  Import games don't really cost much more than domestic games these days (One Piece Musou is $66.99 vs. $59.99 for US release).  If you are fluent in Japanese, why wouldn't you play a game you were interested in when it comes out vs. 6-12 months later?  Are people who buy games day 1 for $60 when it'll be $30 in 6-12 months "wasting money" as well?

And if you mean wasting money because "buying a game in Japanese when you can't read/speak Japanese", well you'd be suprised at how much of the import community on gaf is actually fluent or semi-fluent going by Tales of and SRW threads.  There definitely is an import community there.  Hell, Japanese language-only visual novels keep getting OT threads and those are games where you can't get any enjoyment out of it unless you are fluent in the language.

Bebpo, do you ever go to Japanese forums and post? You have had more formal training in the language than I have, I'd bet. Are you comfortable reading and writing enough that you could participate in those venues?

zomg did you guys know that kids in the 90s had a Oregon Trail successor called the Amazon Trail? mind blown
There was also a Yukon Trail.

And like six Oregon Trails or something. I think II was the only one as close as good as the original.

Yeah, I remember Oregon Trail II, it had FMV-style characters and backgrounds and first-person hunting like the Cabela games. It was pretty cool, but we'd never make it to Oregon because we'd just hunt until time ran out.

i don't know anyone who made it to oregon.  everyone would just hunt, like it was methadone for contra until you got home from school.

I made it to Oregon all the time in the original game, but rarely if ever as a farmer. The randomness was just too brutal for a poor farmer that couldn't afford spare axels or river crossing fees.

Sony should have directs like Nintendo. I know they tried with Vita Heaven a few years back, but they should of have continued that.
They can announce stuff like Talladega Nights 2

this reminded me of how deep oregon trail actually was: different starting classes, on-the-fly decision making that can make or break you, action sequences (hunting), and if you die, you start over fresh, like a rogue like.   all backed by merciless RNG.

game was actually kinda hardcore  8)
