Bebs... Baten Kaitos: Origins, Soul Hackers, Nier, Witcher 1 (stick with it after a sloooow start), and Planescape would be my recommendations out of the games on the list that I've played. BKO is about 50 hours, the rest are around 30-40. Haven't played DQ7r but the original is amazing, but also a 120 hour game.
If you like jrpgs and/or weird quirky Japan games it's worth learning the language just for the game library. You get a lot of other good things out of picking up the language as well, but the expansive non-localized library of games is awesome.

So as I said my 3DS got stolen. But now I'm going on a battery of like 7-8 flights in the next 3 weeks. Most of them are cross country so my laptop battery isn't going to last for the whole flight. So I sorta need a handheld (lol not gonna do toilet gaming, my phone will be dead in like an hour). When you're on a plane so much you have to have something.So I'm seriously considering replacing my old 3DS with a new one. RANDOM FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS:It really really urks me that so much of the western import game audience only plays and cares about shitty titty games. Like the fact that on gaf, there's |OT|s for the boob game Senran Kagura (and a decent amount of replies) or some "fuck yo sister" visual novel, yet not an |OT| for something like Disgaea 5 or One Piece Musou 3 depresses the hell out of me. Sometimes I feel like I gotta carry "spreading the word that Japan is not just about tentacle rape and actually has some good gameplay designers" mantra on my back sometimes. I dunno, it's a first world problem but it's the same shit that got me out of the anime world since message boards became infested with creepers who only talk about panty shows whereas the posters that actually want to watch and discuss the more quality shows were a fewer and fewer minority.

I don't expect people waiting for the western releases of games to be that interested in import discussion, but when you have a gaming message board with a pretty large size of posters, there's a group of 20-40 people who read/speak Japanese and talk about import games. Stuff like Disgaea used to be a popular series so it's surprising that no one even made one post to talk about it (but it looks like a couple of people did import it besides me). Tales of threads get a ton of posts and those games are known to being localized. I'm sure someone will make an import Xenoblade X thread before I even post any impressions.

I made it to Oregon all the time in the original game, but rarely if ever as a farmer. The randomness was just too brutal for a poor farmer that couldn't afford spare axels or river crossing fees.
