Give Volgarr the Viking a try if you haven't. Great old-school inspired game.

I played Volgarr and of course Shovel Knight and Odallus(sp?) but it's been like 3 or 4 years since a new noteworthy classicvania-style game has come out.

What I'm saying: The market that prefers Metroidvania is wrong.

Sea of Thieves, when it works and when you get into the right situations, has given some of the best social gaming experiences I’ve had in years. Unfortunately there isn’t much “game” to speak of, certainly no progression, and what fun you have after you’ve done a few quests for each faction is entirely reliant on the quality of your interactions with other crews.

Would’ve been a stellar Bone launch title.

Playtonic should make a new game called Ocean of Pirates. Put all our favourite playtonic characters in there like Yooka Lalee, Wibble Wobble and Frump Frump.

Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty much confirmed to be at E3.  :hyper  They plan to release footage right before to actual event.   Supposedly, it'll be *gasp gameplay from around the start of the game.   Oh man...  this E3 is already gonna trump last year's snorefest.

Time for another Rare reboot.

Next project?

- A Space Cleaning Game starring Conker
- A procedural generated paint drying simulator
- A cardboard box with half-assed minigames

They cancelled Scalebound and gave us this.

Platinum has really only one complete dogshit game (ninja turtles), and it was some acclaim tier licensed garbage made in less than a year.

Scalebound would have been better than Sea of Thieves. even if  it basically just released as it was.

The only sneak peak I've seen outside of the known promotional teaser and graphics was a model by one of the 3D artists of some topless character wearing black latex. Can't find it again for the life of me though.

I watched some Rare employees playing Sea of Thieves with one of their family members. It kinda made think of some of the things ridiculous Star Citizen fans wish they could do in a game. It seemed like having 3 people who knew each other and were on voice chat made it fun, but if you play it alone it is probably not so fun.

See, this is why Digital Extremes (Warframe) is such an awesome developer and why I'll never remove Warframe from my library.  Although their primary revenue is from microtransactions, they found, and continue to keep that perfect balance of ftp, fun, grind, cosmetic and no pay to win shit....  in this article, they actually removed a particular microtransaction because it was being used too much...
Quote
players could pay a premium currency called platinum to randomly generate a new fur pattern and different colors for it. The price was 10 platinum or about $0.67. “We had a lever, basically, for all intents and purposes,” “And we saw, you know, a guy pull the lever like 200 times,” Carter said. “And it’s just like, ‘oh my dear god, what have we done? We’ve created a slot machine.’ And so you know, it was a couple days I think it took us to take it out—a day, day and a half. That one is a big regret.”
https://kotaku.com/warframe-removed-a-microtransaction-because-a-player-us-1824002323

If this were EA, they'd keep that shit in and use that mechanism on more than several assets and milk the ever living piss out of it.

Rumor has it they lost the rights to the engine it was running on or something like that when the company that was building it went exclusive to another hardware vendor.
Another studio had to start from scratch using the assets I think.

Last time they showed it, all the cloud-based destructible stuff they touted seemed to be gone. It's probably on par with that Agents of Mayhem game now.

Which reminds me; did they ever officially cancel the new Phantom Dust or are they just waiting until people forget that happened

Yeah. ESO is surprisingly solid from the little I played of it. I'm basically waiting for the Morrowind expansion to hit like $20 with the base game to run through it.

It's funny how it's exactly the same as the No Man's Sky hype cycle. I remember Gaf members getting really angry if you asked what the game is even about. "Wow, you must be blind. All the info is right here."

I got dogpiled for saying that this game would be trash because Microsoft had a terrible track record of sticking to their service games.
Like, you know Project Spark or their 'long term' plans for Quantum Break and pretty much every other exclusive.

Surely I was mistaken and a troll and an idiot and all that.

Who's the dogpile now bitches.  :doge

Also this is one of the first real PHIL THE SAVIOR OF XBOX projects. Something that he started and not his predecessors.
Bodes well for the rest of the exciting Xbox (TM) exclusive Microsoft Studios (R) is currently hard at work on.

It's kinda sad really that Microsoft has nothing to show for the past 10 years of IP development. They can only get success by rehashing Peter Moore's and Blackley's stuff.

Also, prepare for E3 when they will likely bring Legendary Game Designer(TM) Clifford Bleszinski back on board to build a new cinematic Gears of War(TM) experience with over 2 hours of thrilling game play.

If I was Sony or Nintendo I would try to get the Forza guy with a bag of cash and buy-out PlayGround games so that doesn't ship anymore either.   :neogaf

Original Xbox and Halo as well as the beginning of 360 were great(Though in my own taste the IPs were always kinda weak aside from Halo but people seemed to love them). Ever since then it's just crap.

NMS was practically some indie emperor's new clothes on GAF, though perhaps at a different level than the crazy that is Star Citizen (at least this game was actually being released). Defenders would rush to criticize others for questioning its substance but I couldn't tell whether they did so as they'd committed to some pre-order or in part just because the game had come to symbolize to them a legitimization of higher-priced, more substantially promoted indie titles and they thought being honest would harm sales, despite themselves having never missing an opportunity to criticize non-indie titles. More Badass as we know epitomized this attitude; amusingly, as it was revealed, not even having bought or played the game.

It didn’t help that they pretty blatantly lied.

There was one of those GDC type conferences where they were talking about moving lobbies and dynamic matchmaking to those near to you and all types of shit that very clearly was never in the game.

I only watched one of the talks at a conference by Murray about the procedural stuff (which was quite interesting). The only thing I remember being vaguely similar was tweeted by Murray after release about a galactic map scan for other players, following the two players who managed to find the same spot but not see each other in-game after release.

That feel when you install a game and the cloud save lands you at the arse end of nowhere with minmaxed stats and equipment but no clue on how to actually proceed from there, coupled with the lack of tactics/skills/map/control knowledge so you die miserably to even the smallest sewer rat.

ESC->MAIN MENU->NEW GAME->save over old game (Y/N)? YYYYYYYYYYYYY

"...hey wait a minute. I think I did this very same thing the last time I reinstalled this game..."  :-\

GOG/Steam/etc cloud saves were a mistake. Now I'll never play through an antire game again. It's always "Oh whatever, the saves are backed up locally and on the net, so I can resume ANY TIME I WANT."

russians basically prevented me from playing gtav. after too many failed login attempts, rockstar just straight up disables your account. you'd have to email support to unlock it, which took usually two to three days, if you're lucky. then of course, the russian bots would just lock it up immediately afterwards.

i only manage to put in 4 hours in gtav. feels bad man
