Iunno, mang. I'm more of a 2D guy - even with platformers.

3D doesn't really add all that much, except for the fact that you can never be absolutely 100% sure that you are supposed to cross a chasm. You can say with confidence that you'll be able to make the jump, sure, but it's not like with 2D games where you can practically count the pixels.
One swivel of the camera, a tiny deviation from the perfect shortest path between platforms, and your character plummets to its death.
So yeah. 2D Pixel jump and runs are where it's at. Like with everything else that is important, 2D reigns supreme.
