I’m happy that the next Xbox will probably have games beyond Halo, Gears, and Forza. But I don’t think MS has ever been good at marketing games beyond Forza, Gears, and Halo. So I’m still skeptical of MS and honestly I just think thier support on the one has been mediocre as far as software is concerned. And while it’s promising that will change, buying studios dosent 100% convince me.

I mean obsidian hasnt had a hit (for me) since New Vegas, and most of those people are gone, so its whatever. And inXile other than Wasteland 2 (which is just ok), hasn't made anything good since so cant go anywhere but up I guess. I just hate that their games will be on the awful windows 10 store now.

Larian actually makes money, so probably not. Divinity: Original Sin 2 did really well. Like a million sold or something.

USPS delivered the SNK 40th Anniversary Edition Limited Edition box I ordered from NISA on Sunday (wut).  It's a small box, but a pretty nice package.  You get the game, soundtrack CDs, an art book, and a set of art prints.

This collection a number of pre-NeoGeo games.  The emulation is pretty good and it has the standard screen and filtering options.  There's also right-analog stick control for games that have rotary shooting, I.E. Ikari II Victory Mode now plays kind of like a twin-stick shooter.  You get both the arcade and NES versions of games, where applicable.  Interestingly the home version of Street Smart (released on the Genesis) is not included, with a note in the game that "someone else ported this," lol.

Game list:

Alpha Mission
Athena
Crystalis
Ikari Warriors
Victory Road
Ikari III The Rescue
Guerrilla War
P.O.W.
Prehistoric Isle
Psycho Soldier
Street Smart
TNK III
Vanguard

More games will be coming as free DLC:

Munch Mobile
Fantasy
Sasuke Commander
Chopper
Time Soldiers
Bermuda Triangle
Paddle Mania
Zma Wars
Beast Busters
Search and Rescue
World Wars

From their FAQ:
Quote
Can’t I just buy a Raspberry Pi, an enclosure, gamepad, keyboard, and mouse, 3D print a faceplate, install Armbian, buy 30+ games, build the source for ARM or install/configure in DOSBox for each and every game, create a menu system with game art, and tell everyone about it at parties?

No.

I don't have any expectations for the PC classic other than a wait and see but the fact that it needs to be crowd founded, and the people behind it hope that their local dev/publishers will play ball in terms of game licenses are major red flags.

Left Alive is such an unexpected and possibly visionary take on Front Mission, mixing in old-school MGS ingredients. Like catering to two under-served niches at once.

The goal with the new console is to lower the price point for the hardware. Currently, it costs about $299 to buy into the Xbox One family of devices, Microsoft is looking to lower that price by possibly as much as $100; the new console price point is expected to be $200 or less.

Quote
As for Scarlett, Microsoft is still trying to decide if that console will include a disc drive but should be making the final decision here shortly.

A lot of people that play games aren't collectors in any sense. At this point, I buy discs for games I really enjoy, but I often have a digital copy anyways.

Xbox Scarlett not having a disc drive, or there not being a disc drive version of the console would bum me out a tad, but it wouldn't be too surprising if that's the case.

With how much digital games are discounted nowadays, combined with retail not stocking a variety of games in general, I'd be fine with physical going away. Besides Best buy and gamestop, shelf space for gaming stuff keeps shrinking.

ISP caps are bullshit, and a console without a disc drive is gonna hurt those people the most.

A big problem with these collectors is that they’re not players. Like this guy Metal jesus *thinks* but *doesnt know* if Front Mission ds is a port of the original game despite listing it in his ds game list.

I've come across that channel several times now and I'm pretty sure he plays everything he has. But if that's several thousand games, you won't get any indepth knowledge for individual titles.

Some of these Youtubers have an effect on games that makes the prices skyrocket after they talk about them.  This particular game got a sequel called Zombie Panic In Wonderland that IIRC is on more modern platforms (digitally) and should be dirt cheap.  I also don't remember it being very good.

He has thousands of games and I very much doubt he's played them all.  But he's an old-school guy going way back and has posted about how he got started working at Sierra back in the day.  I don't lump MJR in with some of the collector types who clearly don't play shit and just make videos about their stuff, but I still find some of his videos to be kind of annoying sometimes.  :lol  There's something pretentious about the way some of these guys show their collections off, whether they mean to come across that way or not.  Like John Hancock, who by all accounts is a really nice guy and does some charity work, but every time I see him start a video with "The IMMORTAL John Hancock here" and flash a smile, I just think :smug.  Maybe it's just me.

They can't out-collect Last Gamer anyway.

Lately I've been thinking about what my favorite game of the year was and as I haven't played RDR2 yet I'd have to give it to Nier Automata on Xbox One because I played it this year even though it's 'technically' a 2017 game.
Something else I've really been enjoying is Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Donkey Kong but that's a Wii U port.

Overall it seems a bit of a lukewarm year compared to 2017. Which had Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Splatoon 2, Prey, Wolfenstein etc. .

What were your favorites this year Borians?

Since Amazon killed their Prime preorder bonus, I started up my Gamefly subscription again.  I've already rented like 6 games and have saved a tidy sum in a few months.  I also saved $120 by not renewing my Prime subscription.

Silver linings.  :rock

I played Sea of Thieves with my buddy yesterday. Holy shit, that game is fun.

We had like 5 rewards that we needed to turn in when we came across these two dudes. They were friendly and needed a ride back to their boat. I was extremely hesitant but my buddy is a softy. We delivered them back to their ship and got deeeestroyed.

I haven't played too much that's purely 2018... but I liked nearly all I've played so far. Just started DQ11 and can tell that's probably gonna end up as my favorite, but also liked Octopath Traveler, CHUCHEL, Curse of the Moon, and Alliance Alive (most underrated game of the year).

I won it all in Fortnite last night with my daughter. She’s 6, 😂.

We spent the whole match just riding the 4 wheelers, and the last team killed  themselves in the storm with a little help.
