There's a few shops here in the Netherlands that always price their games at 54,99 or something like that.  :heart
With big releases like Call of Duty there's usually a bit of a competition going on in the first week with discounts or some retailers pick a specific holiday game to promote.

There's also a website that tracks prices of all games and consoles so you can just look for the cheapest deal.  :pimp

I don't buy anything on release anymore, but totally unnecessary price increases make me mad as fuck because there's kids who can only afford a game or two a year and I don't think they need to get fucked over so we can get more open world games.   :maf

Didn't the exact same thing happen last time? Games being priced at $70 a few months before the new consoles were even launching?

speaking of, the new Trackmania seems pretty good, if not a huge departure. looks like the free version gives a decent amount of content, almost everything unlocked is $10/year. I think I am probably good with the free version though.  :lol

I noticed Ace Combat 7 is now on Game Pass.

That game rocks :whew

Also if you like mediocre Metroidvania for Babies there is a new Oni game too.

NBA 2K20 added an unskippible ad about the need to discuss racial issues that plays the first time you try to play a game. It doesn't like link you to anywhere or mention where you should discuss this or mention a charity or even show any kind of #BLM thing except that it's in the background on a sign of a picture of a protest, just says you should sometime. :wow

Only Tony Hawk 3 used Renderware for its graphics because they didn't have time to create a renderer for PS2. Tony Hawk 4 and forward went back to NeverSoft's own technology. Some of the other games shown only used Renderware in ports.

Renderware didn't scale up in the way EA expected for next gen (but you can see their goal at having one internal engine that they've forced on Frostbite), it failed in their goals on Medal of Honor: Airborne and that's why they went to UE3. Burnout Paradise and the Need For Speed games Criterion did use some kind of "new technology" that wasn't really Renderware, with I think only Paradise having anything to do with the next gen attempt at Renderware.

Nintendyearolds.  :doge

Anyway, i watched the 30 min (skipping here and there).
Jankiness aside (clearly an old build, since it looks buggier than Origins and Odyssey) it's definitely like those two in another setting, which is what they promised and what anyone expected. : :yeshrug
The lighting looks like an improvement over all, even though there's something seriously wrong with the contrast, which i'll also chalk up to it being an unfinished build.

"More of the same in another setting" is what i wanted, so i'm good on that front, my big worry is still the setting itself, you come from Egypt to that, it's gonna look real bland, especially since it's treading really common water in videogame landscapes.
Beyond that, I loved Origins and hated Odyssey, entirely because of how they handled progression, so the make it or break it aspect, for me, it's gonna be down to how they handled that shit in this one.
They said potisive things about loot and progression, hopefully they materialize in the game.

Also i'm sure people who hated every AC in the last 13 years will still buy this one as usual and bitch about it, like absolute mental cases. :doge

True.
Although the framerate shown in that video isn't just not ideal, it's closer to unplayable.

Don't care about the gfx, but most of the reviews are saying the story/characters/writing sucks and the game is crap, so I'll pass.

I liked the original for it's so bad it's good feel. Mostly just for the car conversations about old movies. But this just doesn't look appealing to me. Was D4 or The Missing actually legit good? Feels like Swery might just have gotten lucky with the first DP game.

Swery has a following of fans that love his work, I'd lean towards believing people genuinely enjoy the stuff he directs or produces  :lol

Also, Deadly Premonition 1 got destroyed in reviews, same goes for it's sequel. Its not like DP1 got 9s and 10s and was lauded as a genius game.

Also the original has like 70 metacritic and this looks like it’ll be around 45. Big difference there.

Current reviewers at big publications were fans of the original Deadly Premonition? That's as believable as every game reviewer feeling TLOU2, is a 10/10. It's also 57 vs 68, which on the review scale used nowadays, is negligible.

It seems game publications know that Deadly Premonition is a thing that exists, and in an attempt to mask that the majority of these reviewers never played the original, it's way easier to lie or fib white lies and act disappointed that this sequel didn't live up to it's predecessor.

Case in point
https://www.usgamer.net/articles/deadly-premonition-2-a-blessing-in-disguise-review

This fucking jabroni knows how to sling words, but he never played DP1, nor does he take into account the many reasons why someone would love the game. He made up a legacy or vision of the first game based on it's cult status.

Quote
Case in point: one of the very first side missions available in Le Carre asks players to exterminate 30 killer bees. Not yet familiar enough with the town to know where to go, I let the first few days pass without following this mission up. Later, I discovered a bunch of hives at the town graveyard and spent about half an hour lazily making laps to take out swarms with York's pistol—busy work, handled in an appropriately blunt Deadly Premonition way, that was still made frustrating by the awful frame rate. Then, after all that, I realized that I couldn't turn the quest into the town's sheriff because he wasn't at the station. Later, I saw him walking near the hotel, but there was no option for turning in the quest to him there.

Another day or two passed in-game before I finally caught the sheriff at his post in the station. The reward for finishing the bee extermination? Another step in the quest asking York to go shoot 30 wild dogs

This sounds fucking hilarious and awesome, yet this reviewer, with no sense of humor or a cool bone in him, notes that this shows tedious and dull quest design.

TBF tho, Jim Sterling didn't like DP2 either and he gave DP1 a 10/10 at Destructoid and even got quoted on the back of the back for the Switch Edition.
