Seems fun enough so far. Feels like an actual game and not a machine-learning algorithm designed to syphon money from your bank account.

I wanted to try it on PC, but there's talk of it installing a kernel that keeps running even when the game is closed.

Possibly it's been fixed? After shutting down the game I went looking to see if the kernel was still running, but it seems to not be.

It's still there.  I don't like what I'm reading from the developer and comments about it, either:

I downloaded it, but I'm trying to finish 13 Sentinels today before I mess with it. I need a new gacha, I'm pretty much done with Dragalia Lost.

Quote
The year 2019 meant not only hope, but also challenge, to the Chengdu-based development team Loong Force working on the Convallaria project.

Unlike other shooting games, Convallaria aims to attract players with different emotional clutters, realistic experiences, and stronger and smoother battle gameplay.

The development concept of combining the worldview with the scene structure, enemy structure, and battle system, and eventually spread to other action games and even more complicated fighting games, was one of the tasks the development team had to solve.

The team has repeatedly adjusted the balance between aesthetics and frames of figure animation. Many previously-made games have been studied, compared, and even abandoned to keep iterating to eventually pick the best fruit.

What Convallaria wants is to present all the PlayStation players with an action / shooting game that is unique and made by a development team from its homeland. Waiting for players at the place where Convallaria blossoms, besides cathartic battles, there is also an emotional expression along with our Convallaria project to sing together a song of “love that couldn’t be delivered.”

Feels like Panzer Dragoon may just sour me on LRG. I ordered it along with other games like Streets of Rage 4. So of course none of them have shipped and Rage has had a physical edition out for a while. I have other orders that I feel like I've been waiting for awhile now as well. Yet, they seem to have a new pre-order every week. Maybe they shouldn't take on so many games if they can't get anything out in a reasonable time frame.

I want to champion these type of boutique publishers because I like their work and I like physical games, but I'm not so sure anymore.

SW: Squadrons (single player campaign) is getting pretty good reviews.  Reading that the VR is legit where it's at.  Tempting, but got so much on the plate right now.

Really?

I read excerpts from a few reviews and they described the single player campaign as "functional", "ok" and every review said the focus was on the MP which is great.

As someone who doesn't care about MP and would just be interested in the single player campaign "functional" doesn't really get me excited. The old games had great campaigns.

I read one review that it hits that spot of immersion like Tie Fighter and X-Wing of old.  But yeah, I rarely play MP myself... I just want to play the campaign...  If it's short but sweet, I'd be down... just don't need to throw it in my backlog atm.. The test trial didn't have VR implemented, so that's what piques my interest, ...if it's as good as they say.

Yeah if you don't like the MP, it seems like a game to get for the VR experience, which is to say, a one and done kind of thing, sub 20€.
Not that it was reasonable to expect otherwise, though.

Didn't realize how much VR support this has.

Yeah, I might pick it up just as a new VR game to play (especially at the lower price point). Only concerned about how everyone is saying the game is hard as fuck. I am terrible at flight sims and that sounds frustrating. I hope you can lower the difficulty.

Doesn't seem any more grindy than other open-world RPGs, at least so far. Some story quests have minimum level requirements, but they've been easy to reach by doing side quests and random exploration.

Same as this gen.

So between 12gb-120gb with average AAA being around 50-60gb

I'm pretty used to only keeping about 3-4 AAA games installed with some indies/fighters/music games at any time, so seems business as usual to me.

Games will not be the same size as this generation.... they are likely to grow significantly.
If what they said about no more repeated assets on the drive is true, that may balance things out and keep sizes the same, at least once these cross gen titles fuck off.

Pretty sure you can just install one. 105gb is essentially 2 games. So 2018 is 55gb.

I mean we have some file sizes on this page and 50-60gb sounds pretty normal? Demon Souls isn't cross-gen and has crazy 4k textures on everything.

Yeah the texture assets are a little higher this gen, but fewer repeated assets basically should balance it. I play almost everything on PC on my 1gb SSD and I swear every indie game is like 2gb-19gb and every AAA game is like 50-80gb, so these file sizes look pretty same to me.

Also Astrobot PS5 is 2.4gb install lol

Astrobot VR was like 7-8gb with lower res textures. I get the feeling PS5 one is gonna be a tech demo that's like 1 stage. PSVR also came with an Astrobot tech demo/mini-game for free at launch that was a small 30 min thing. Which is a bummer, but just would mean they're mostly focused on Astrobot 2 and this didn't take away too much development time in the meantime.

The more we hear about next-gen the worse it sounds in terms of future proofing.

Ray-tracing implementation is underwhelming on PS5 and not even seen yet for any launch games on Xbox Series X.
Storage gives you space for about 3 - 5 next-gen games and then there's the whole Cross-Gen Series S|X bullshit.
And the one technology that really changes things in terms of performance at high resolutions (DLSS 2.0) is not available.

It sounds like the Wii U all over again. Something to hold you over until the 'real' next-gen arrives when all those games and UE5 are ready by 2022/2023.
Until then it's going to be 30fps / 4k gaming whenever ray-tracing is involved (and that sort of is the selling point).
Who are these clowns kidding with 8k 'ready' ?

this happens every generation and for most games, things are fine.
