Probably because it only came out in Japan, on the PS2 (like two years after the PS3 was out), and was not made by Technosoft since they had folded by that point.    No idea if the game is any good- but this is a good time for you to test out PS2 emulation on your new laptop!  ;)

Duh.. just saw there's a demo for R-Type Final 2, so gonna check that out this weekend.  If it's dope and I need more, I may just wait and jump on R-Type Final 3 releasing in 20 days instead. Not sure why they call it 3 when it's just a spruced up version of 2.

And Ikaruga is on sale for $5 now too... hnnnng

Interesting take on the recent 3DS craze (mostly in the USA tho).

On a related note I bought a pretty rare 3DS game for ~$20 today called Ever Oasis that someone listed as Ever Odsis, not realizing what it was.   :lol

In my 3DS hunt this was the craziest item I've found.

Apparently someone had their PAL copy of Metroid Prime Federation force Graded :dead

Just found DQ 7 + 8 complete in mint condition, they usually go for 50 each, but I found a seller that wants to get rid of them both for 70 combined even though he listed them at 90. :rejoice

Also got a lead on Tales of Abyss for 20, which usually goes for double that.  :pimp

The seller of DQ is going to send me a list of more games he owns because he's clearing out his collection.  :mynicca

It depends, having your game graded by UKGraders costs about ~$30 .
So if you want to 'confirm' that your collectible is in perfect condition and seal it in a protective case to preserve it, I wouldn't say it's a scam.
It's a bit like someone appraising artworks or vintage items.

The scam part is that people sell graded games for $1000's more than ungraded ones and the price explodes once people are willing to pay so much money for the games.
The value of Metroid Prime Federation force is low, you can still buy it new for 10 - 15 Euro (at least in Europe). People scoop these up from the bargain bin and then try to sell them for 20 or 30.

Take something like MGS3D for instance, it went for $20 complete early 2021, $30 early 2022 and now a loose cartridge sets you back $80 and a 'graded' boxed copy $150.
The PAL version went from 40 to 70. Not as much as the US version but still almost double the price.

At this stage most 3DS games should not cost more than $5 - $10 for a loose cartridge and $20 - $40 for a boxed copy depending on the condition and rarity of the title.
However they're being sold for $100+ .

That's 95 for DQ7+8 and Bravely Default.

Gotta buy videogames for muh kids college!

A significant chunk of the deposit on my house was paid for by selling SNES and PS1 RPGs and N64 games. I didn’t buy this stuff as an investment but if someone wants to give me £400 for Chrono Trigger I’ll happily let him.

The Persona 3 footage was first posted on April 4, but resurfaced today.

The reel is reportedly from 2021, showcasing in-development footage of the two alleged unannounced titles, as well as the currently available Sonic Frontiers.

Damn, when I finally move and do a deep spring cleaning, I think it's time to look into selling some of my game collection.

Unfortunately pre-CD stuff that I have is in pretty poor condition. Like I have Chrono Trigger and some others on SNES, but either just the carts or the box but the box is all smashed up. Those old cardboard boxes for games, including old PC games are tough to keep in good condition if you're a kid in the 80s/90s that doesn't really care. When we moved in the 90s we literally had a cheap brown suitcase filled with all our SNES carts.

I think we also used to give away all our games to our cousins since we were more into cutting edge new releases and they got our hand me downs. Like I know our entire NES cart collection went to them so I don't have any NES carts. Even with SNES, used to have like three dozen SNES games as a kid, but pretty sure I just have a handful left, no idea what happened to the rest. Bummer for re-sale now.

Did some more GPD Win Max 2 testing.

At 18w TDP:

-Gotham Knights ran at 60 FPS at 720P on low settings.  50-60 when on a bike.
-Elden Ring ran at 45-50 FPS on average at 720P/low.
-KOF XV ran at 1080P 60 FPS with all settings on high.
-Soul Calibur 6 ran at 720P 60 FPS with settings on medium/high- this was the default; need to try 1080P and higher settings.
-DOA6 ran at 1080P 60 FPS with low character shadow resolution and low effect quality.

At 28w TDP:

-Elden Ring ran at 55-60 FPS at 720P/low!
-Cyberpunk 2077 ran at 34-45 FPS on average with some dips at times at 720P/low.  Should be able to get it to run a bit better with some tweaking.
-Persona 5 Royal ran at 60+ FPS at 1080P/high settings.  Framerate was anywhere from 62-100 FPS.  Looks amazing on the screen.

Really impressed with this thing,

Decided to return it.  Booted it up this morning and had Steam open.  The right side of the screen started going haywire and doing "ghost inputs" (it's a touch screen).  Looked this up and found some other people reporting the same thing.  Discord said it could be drivers, or maybe the charger, or maybe it was a hardware issue.  I rebooted and it seemed OK, then it happened again.  The place I got it from offers a 30 day return policy and I'm still under that, so going to send it back to them.

Picked up an ASUS Zephyrus G14 instead.  It's a lot bigger, but it was also cheaper and the performance is better.  No more GPD for me after this, I swear!

G14 impressions:

Don't have any problems with this laptop and the price was fantastic, but I decided to get the ASUS Flow Z13 2023 model instead.  It's what I wanted in the first place and the performance is 60% better than last year's model.  Seen some videos and the 4050 runs games really well at 1440P even while keeping thermals low.  ASUS appears to have fixed all the issues the 2022 model had.

No 'it's gone' GIF this time! This shit is fire I'm keeping it!

I was seriously expecting to be sending this right back and getting the G14 back or possibly the Acer Predator Triton 300 SE (both are still on sale for amazing prices), but I was happily wrong- the new Z13 is AWESOME.  Incredibly impressed with the 4050 mobile.  Running everything at 1920x1080 or 1920x1200, I have tried:

-Elden Ring: Ran at high settings at 60 FPS
-Wo Long: Ran at mostly high settings at 90-120 FPS
-Call Of Duty Modern Warfare II: With DLSS enabled for performance, I got 130-140 FPS in multiplayer!
-Cyberpunk: With DLSS enabled for performance, 80-100 FPS
-Control: Also DLSS; got 80-90 FPS
-Resident Evil 4: 80-100 FPS with the settings on performance

And this was without adjusting settings.  Absolutely blown away by this thing.  It doesn't even seem to be running very hot.

More Z13 impressions:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
[close]

Yup, gonna return it!  :lol  But not because I don't like it- entirely to the contrary.  I like it so much that I decided to upgrade and go for the high-end model.  The difference is that it has 32 GB of ram instead of 16 (the ram is soldered onto all these models) and an RTX 4070 instead of the 4050.  But it is still running at 65w.  Even so, have seen a direct comparison where the FFXV benchmark was getting around 100 FPS average on the 4050 model and 130-140 FPS on the 4070 model.  Plus it has 8GB of vram over the 4050's 6GB.  Should hopefully help to keep it a bit more future proof.

The 4070 model is a weird one, though.  It's a collaboration with the fashion label Acronym.  It's kinda ugly and yet I also kinda like it.  Has these cyberpunk-ish vibes.

The keyboard cover it comes with is also weird and doesn't have RGB lighting (just white), but as long as it's backlit that works for me.  The lighting makes the weird symbols stand out less when enabled.

You can also stand it up in portrait mode on this model.  That could be fun for SHMUPs or comic reading.

And it has these straps you can put onto it to wear it and use it while standing or carry it without a case.  I doubt I will use this.

Can definitely say that had they released a regular model with the same specs, I would have gone for that for sure.  But this is the only way to get it.

Quote
Phil Harrison, head of Google's failed Stadia gaming service, has quietly left the company

Phil Harrison, who ran Google's now-defunct cloud gaming service Stadia, has left the company.

Harrison, a vice president at the company, quietly departed in January around the time Google officially closed the Stadia service down, according to two employees familiar with the matter.

In September, Google announced it would wind down Stadia, which it launched in 2019. Back then, Google pitched Stadia as the future of gaming, giving users access to high-quality games without the need to purchase expensive hardware.

Still, Stadia struggled to gain traction in a competitive gaming market. After Google killed plans for Stadia to develop its own in-house games, the unit shifted its focus to landing business deals with other companies while propping up the consumer platform with a steady stream of third-party titles.

Some of those proposed deals involved selling access to Stadia's underlying streaming technology to support other companies' gaming platforms and services. Google approached gaming developer Bungie and even Peloton, Insider reported.

The unit struggled to land many lucrative deals, former Stadia employees told Insider. Harrison, who had seemingly vanished from public view since 2021, announced in September that Stadia would close its doors and refund users who had purchased games and hardware through Google's store.Later, Google told Axios's Stephen Totilo it had also entirely killed efforts to sell Stadia's technology to third parties.

Harrison is a veteran of the gaming world. Before his time at Google, he was an executive at Microsoft's Xbox game business and had also run Sony's game studios. His departure from Google is a full stop on the company's ambitious push into gaming, though Google says it still wants to act as a cloud partner for gaming publishers.

It's not known where Harrison is headed next. A Google spokesperson and Harrison did not respond to requests for comment.

Finding a Police 911 2 (aka 24/7 aka Keisatsukan) cabinet made me oddly sentimental. Way back when local arcades were a thing, the fella running ours bought it and the Konami motion boxing game. Blew my mind back then. Going from Virtua Cop to Time Crisis with a pedal to a light gun game tracking your body. You were ducking and weaving for cover or matrix dodging bullets. This was all pre Kinect, pre Wii. These days with VR it’s hardly novel. Still, the vibe of old light gun games is special.

The categorically worst generation of consoles ever. More than two years in and still not a reason to own either the ShitBOX or the PisS5.

You all would have been better off investing in a Fist of Adonis and keeping your XOnes and PS4s.
Should've bought more NintendoTM games with that said Resident Evil 4 Remake is an absolute banger.

Probably should have let WB Montreal do that Suicide Squad game they were teasing instead of letting Rocksteady claim it without any idea.

He's completely right about ASUS being full of it in terms of the performance claims, but I also kind of wonder if he's a little ticked that they didn't send him one to test out like they did to Linus and Dave2D.  :doge

I only see it as a positive because it's another handheld that could potentially cost less than the competing ones and could potentially be sold in stores like Best Buy. Also better customer support/warranty. Just like the Steam Deck!

Watched a couple of his videos, and this is a compliment, I understand why they wouldn’t hand him a prototype. Best not to get in the weeds about specs and tdp, from asus’s perspective.

I'm not sure if the ROG Ally is a good idea or not. To me at this stage it seems more important that folks rally behind the Steamdeck.
I feel like all of these devices are aimed at the same audience and they will not make the pie bigger, only cut it in smaller pieces.

In the end consumers are left confused about what device to buy and what type of performance or support to expect much like the current state of the VR market.
These PC gaming brands aren't really known to make durable products either. Apart from that there's the pricing.

The Steamdeck hits the sweet spot between price/performance/features and portability.
Compared to it the Switch wins on portability but it loses on price/performance. The PS5 wins on price/performance but it loses on portability.

I'm kinda torn because I don't know what the point of having physical gaming collections are if you decide to go digital at some point because your collection just...stops.

It's like either you care about having physical copies of all your favorite games (or just entire console/handheld libraries) in which case by missing the modern systems after you go digital your physical game collection feels incomplete.

Or you don't care and are perfectly happy with everything digital these days, in which case why do you keep all these old physical games around that you're never going to play.

Part of me feels like I should have kept buying physical this gen because I have a pretty substantial library collection from like Saturn/PS1 -> PS3/X360/Wii/3DS, but then I feel like idk, what's the point.

Like I was packing today and went through my old anime DVDs and some 90s collectibles like trading cards/pogs/figures. I looked up on ebay every.fucking.thing as I packed and yeah, some stuff is legit worth some money. I've got these marvel trading cards in mint condition from 1993 that are apparently worth like $25-75 per card, I've got a Vash the Stampede Mcfarlane figure sealed that apparently is worth over $100, some of my anime dvds are worth $100+, etc..., I've got a full set of Nintendo Club Super Metroid Pogs that are apparently worth a little, but like the time it would take me to actually go through everything and list it on ebay and sell it individually and pack it and stuff...I don't have time for it and the profit isn't going to be worth it.

And my game collection is definitely worth way more than anime dvds or some trading cards. But when will I ever have the time to sell off my collection even if it's worth something? Just feels like hoarding shit until I die and someone else can inherit it and do the work to sell it and get some money out of it.

Idk, my back hurts and everywhere hurts from packing and moving mangas and dvds and shit all day and I'm just like "I wish I could hire someone to sell all my shit and take like 5-10% that I wouldn't worry was scamming me", I really want to downsize in moving, but I have a feeling I'm going to end up taking like 90% of my shit with me and it'll just sit in boxes for the next 10 years with a "some day go through this and sell it" note on top.

Think I mostly stopped going back to the PS4. A few, what I’d consider, disposable games. But the collection is really just RGG/Yakuza games. Before that, by necessity I amassed a large physical collection. Some rarer games I could sell for 4x the price I put in. Most are junk I won’t play, can’t sell, and don’t take up so much space I feel compelled to trash.

Going forward, I’ve decided on RGG games and Zelda for physical. A few others I feel “sentiments” towards. But even Zelda I’m regretting. Don’t know what the Nintendo policy is, but if I could purchase a second Switch and play on both, like every other platform, it’d save a headache.

Also, gamepass helped get me past it.
