Toys for Bob died when they turned a great platformer team into a support studio for Call of Duty :|

Even if they weren't closed down, they'd never make another platformer again and everyone there who cared about making those kinds of games would have left the team eventually.

One of the greatest crimes of Activision over the last decade was moving them to CoD after Crash 4 was fairly successful.
The other thing that sucks hard is no Tony Hawk 3+4 remake after 1+2 was fantastic. But that one's tough and can't really put it on Activision because apparently the team at VV after 1+2 decided they wanted to do the Diablo 2 remake over 3+4. But definitely sucks we didn't get 3+4.

Yup.  And OutRun 2019 (lol).  They were pretty good, but still nothing as stellar as the OG and 2.  I'm guessing this Battle OutRun didn't get that great of a reception.

It only took a year, but the new update for Wanted: Dead has dropped and finally nerfed the first ninja fight.  Of course this happens 2 weeks after I finally crushed him. 

Of course there are other things streamlined to make the jank a bit more tolerable, like mid-bosses dropping stim packs and having a toggle for manual/auto wall hug/crouch, among other bugs and such.

Damn..  I really need to play Suikoden 3.

Just fyi, Suikoden 3 is different than 1 and 2 in that it still has great writing/story, maybe even as good as Suikoden 2's story.
But...it looks and plays like shit (this was at the time, might be better now without the load times and with emulator additions like quick save and fast-forward and cheats). Unlike Suikoden 1/2 which hold up fine and have a great game to go along with the story.

Probably still worth playing 3 after 1/2 to see the story aspect, but it will be a rough game. I'll probably replay 1&2 in the new editions, but I have no interest in ever replaying 3 despite it having a great story.

Sounds like it’s (almost) the ideal remaster package. Play it with classic visuals and controls, or updated visuals and Anniversary controls, or any mix you’d like. Even some small additions like the option to show interaction prompts or snapping to item pick ups.

I like how the new models look like the art work and ads from back then. Like the SGI mods for Mario 64 PC. Staying true to the old art.

I wouldn't take odds on that bet. I am seeing so much weird stuff in Japanese studios, even now. The govt legislated new rules, and many places seem to respect them — but others are just doing tricky stuff so overtime doesn show up.

It's a pretty good remaster.

The spooky vibes.

The early 3d graphics in crisp HD.

Still evokes that feeling I had when I was a kid when I was stuck in a dark labyrinth and wild animals. Like the same exact feeling of dread, uncertainty of what's lurking around the corner, combined with inquisitive curiosity to explore and solve puzzles.

That’s pretty cool. Sounds like what happened with some of the Sonic games and stuff Nightdive puts out.

Hm it's much better if you really, really take your time. Watched a YouTuber play a level I just beat and he's more patient and exact. The physics shouldn't be underestimated. You really need to get a nice head start when jumping and use momentum.

It helps to envision it all playing on a grid. Each step is a space forward or back. Some jumps need two spaces of lead up. Lara doesn’t walk off ledges, so you can walk to the edge, step back twice, etc.

I’m interested to see how the modern controls get around it. In a lot of ways the Legend/Anniversary/Underworld trilogy was less precise than the classic controls.

For the most part I agree but I do think there's a learning curve.

Only thing I wanted from this Remaster was the QOL of activating levers; Lara snapping to them... Supposedly that's a thing now? (Haven't played it yet)  That was the one thing that irked me even back in the day.   Was always like, 'I'M RIGHT FUCKING THERE!! JUST PUT YOUR ARM OUT, BITCH!! Y U GOTTA BE PERPENDICULAR TO THIS SHIT?!?"
I assume they still have her handstand pull up too, right?  Would be silly if that was removed.

1 and 2 still have one of the best scores too.  Queuing perfectly to fit the scenery and feels majestic; from the strings of Venice, to the ahead of it's time EDM when plowing through on a snowmobile.  The main theme of TR1 is still the GOAT.  When playing the Reboot, I was so wanting the end part (when she got her dual pistols) to play a hint of the TR1 theme, but that never happened... 
But now I have my daughter play it for me on the piano.

I was confused by that too. Hold the A (X on ps) button when nearby. Also use the pivot RB (R1) to position and she will auto do it. The game is full of holding buttons rather than presses. A press is fast, see? A hold is deliberate and slow. So you when you're doing a jump you hold run, you don't press. When you actually jump you hold the jump button, you don't press. Once you get that figured out the controls are just fine. It's a game about deliberation and holds. It's not a fast paced game, slow your brain down.

Tomb Raider 1-III Remastered gameplay. Level 1, no secrets, straight run. Played in both original and remastered graphics, tank controls enabled, d-pad play. Notice you can play FMVs in remastered mode and it de-pixelates.

Personally I prefer the original graphics for whatever reason.

The more I play of Tomb Raider the better it gets.

Amazing level design, situationn and encounter design, resource management, platforming., atmosphere, environment design. I went expecting not much because I haven't played those in so long but it's such a breath of fresh air. The minimalist design style is so good. I think it's more impressive than Mario 64. I'm about halfway through TR1. Can't wait for 2.

I also forgot how long these games surprisingly were. $30 is definitely a fair price.

This one level is nuts in terms of game design, from the platforming to the encounters. I've always said 3d platforming is at its best when it adheres to a "how do I get there?" line of questioning since timing and reflects are rarely a part of 3D platformers. I say this because TR adheres to that questioning very well. It requires full facilities in terms of exploration design and using your awareness of the level and the environment to progress.

Reading about openlara, some of what they’ve done is amazing. I never expected old tomb raider to have a dedicated scene to this extent.
