Stupid Question: In order to access your CMOS battery you have to crack open your PS3 so wouldn't that void the warranty?

So it's the day after -- is it safe to turn on your PS3?
"I have two episodes of The Tester to catch up on."
News is currently circulating that European game retailer GAME is already refusing to trade in recently affected PS3 which were affected by the PSN / PS3 hardware failures which occurred earlier today.Owners who have been attempting to trade in their “fat” PS3s for the currently-unaffected slim models are apparently being refused, reliable reports have indicated to us. GAME is refusing trade for those consoles at this time.We have also received word directly from consumers directly regarding this.

Haven't touched my Ps3 for a few days, so I don't care. Sony will fix this anyway. And my Heavy Rain copy still hasn't arrived. The bug will get fixed by then.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
"I'll just play XBOX360 until this is fixed"

Waiting a few hours for a bug to get fixed is still better than waiting for a few days (weeks?) to get your console (multiple times?) replaced. All camps are overreacting.OH GOD I CAN'T PLAY TODAY
I think this problem has just revealed the hidden evilbore PS3 love. This forum usually moves at a snails pace, yet we are seeing record posting activity today. "I'll just post on evilbore now that I can't play PS3 games"
I've had to replace my PS3 AND 360 multiple times.

I never understood the "I've been through 546563 X360's/Ps3's" comments. Is it just bad luck, or don't you ever take care of your consoles? I've "only" had one X360 and even a Wii break down on me this gen. No Ps3 casualty yet. Maybe because I more careful with it.
Sony has just issued a stark warning against connecting any PS3 to PSN on its DevNet.Said the firm on the developer-only resource just now: “We would also recommend not connecting any consumer units to the PSN to the network for the remainder of today.”
Hey, wouldn't this effect game development too?
So how does Sony intend to fix a hardware issue over the internet when the console itself can't connect? hmmmmmIt's not just a borked firmware.
