Owners of PS3 Phats are reporting that the date on their console has reverted to 12/31/1999, which is likely the cause of the data-corrupting errors. Some Phat-owners have reported receiving the errors while their console was offline, which is upsetting, to say the least. We'll let you know when we hear official word from Sony.

I unplugged my PS3 60GB phat from the internet, and I'm not able to play certain PSN games. The Force Unleashed happened to be in the drive, and it plays just fine, but I didn't bother trying anything else.

if you have a fat and it's disconnected from the net before you turn it on you'll probably still run into issues. this is fucked up.

I don't think it matters if you turn it on or not. If your system is one of the affected, you'll encounter this problem whenever you do turn it on.

I'm trying to think if there's any game saves on my PS3 that I actually give a damn about........

Ever since I cleared my HD to send in my first broken PS3, I really haven't put anything on there that'll piss me off too much if I lose it, other than Demon's Souls and UC2.

I was completely ticked off when I lost all my progress in Everyday Shooter. I never bothered to go back to that.

I'd laugh if the firmware fix would have to be downloaded via your computer and then transferred over to the PS3 by something like a thumb drive. That sounds like something Sony would do. Total confusion.

I think it's a little too early to pass judgement on this either way until we know what kind of fix is in store. It could be a small problem for all we know (quick fix within a day) or it could be more severe (like XBOX360 problems).

I haven't seen anything this bad since that time I changed my PSN password and it erased my Resistance 2 gamesave and locked me out of earning trophies and froze me out of all my PSN titles for 2 months.
