If you want mountains and are moving east of Colorado then you clearly don't want mountains.

Perhaps I'm just a neoliberal subject but I find it refreshing to have a city wholly subservient to capital that doesn't pretend that it has a culture.
JDPON when?
This is only tangentially relevant but I always found it pretty funny that the LV chapter of DSA had a logo that referenced the gaming industry
(Image removed from quote.)

This is super dumb when you consider that Las Vegas has comparatively high union membership in spite of anti-union legislation at the state level.

Snow, artistic state, historical city, two hours from NYC, four seasons, in a nice area where I can access multiple cities easily (Midwest, NE, Canada), low housing.

The list now is:

1. Philly
2. Chicago
3. Baltimore

Why do you guys hate Vegas?

I haven't been as an adult but loved it as a kid. So did my parents. Vegas had massive pools and AMAZING arcades and as a kid you had free reign to walk around a massive fucking hotel.

At the first Bore Con we walked to go see a penis show that happened to be next door to a strip club just off the strip. For a nontrivial portion of the journey a taxi driver (that had some racket going with the strip club) harassed us to hop in incessantly even though we politely declined his ride. Right up until we were walking towards the penis show he wouldn't let up, then he got mad and drove away when he realized where we were going.

My week on the strip reminded me of Baudrillard and hyperreality and him going on about how we basically live in a giant advertisement and all that shit. I think I was experiencing some sort of weird depersonalization, like the effect of the big brash environment was making me shrink. I also ate like 300 bucks worth of cannabis red velvet cake pops that week.

A troop was in the audience and his wife convinced him to participate in the final act. (It was solicited by the performers.)

You can't find that kind of anti-imperialist content just anywhere. Well maybe a giant dad section on a porn website, but ONLY there.

Being near snow is not the same as getting a regular snowfall.

One major damper I have with my photography and living in Houston is variety. Houston lacks it visually. Oh I can find gems having four seasons in one place is beneficial. I notice photographers that are from say, LA, lack the visual variety of someone that lived in say, NYC or London. Having regular access to snowfall is a part of that. LA  the same weather almost every day. Good for regular life, boring for a photographer.

Great. Sunny places all day every day all year long. :zzz

Mean while...

More seasons means more variables which means more options and visual stimuli to play with. If you don't have four seasons I'm not interested.

Ive decided to go with Philly.

One of the most walkable cities in America? :drool

In order for me to get interesting shots in Houston I have to drive my ass bare all over this damn city, sitting in my car. I hate it so much. To be able to establish a regular route I can do daily would be godsend. Being able to walk is a huge benefit. Since its so walkable that means there's lots of people walking. That means more shots and opportunity for shots. Houstonians never walk so the number of potential shots is small. There's four seasons, it's Philly so there's a lot of stories, it's near Baltimore and NYC and I can stay there for a weekend if I want. Low cost of living and I can buy a house there.

I love the benefit of being close to New York but not BEING in New York which is full of photographers. I'll have my own competition with a nice access to other areas. So much variety. Also being near New York has benefits especially if I end up having an internship or mentor.

It looks like Oakland is considerably more dangerous than Philly, so if you were ok here, Philly will seem like a gated planned community for retirees in comparison.

Should certainly take the day off. Not sleeping is terrible.

I'm getting an ercp tomorrow, so know I will have trouble sleeping as well. Even if it's like my fourth or fifth now, I still get nervous every time. At least it's good practice on how to deep throat.
