Hispanics do it pretty often.  The women become unhappy and decide that if they're going to hate their husband they should have a project!  I know a couple who has been struggling for a while.  Both hispanic.  He's an Iraq war veteran and when he came back he got really depressed, gained some weight and just had some emotional issues going on.  she kept talking to me about how often she could cheat if she wanted and how they hadn't sex in forever yadda yadda.  the usual fare.  I speak to them every couple of weeks really short and never really ask about their relationship because I know it's rocky and it's only the woman who ever brings it up to me.  Then about two months ago I get a call and she's pregnant and they're all excited.  Not to mention, they're both going to school full time.  As if they weren't stressed enough.  Jeez man.  Poor kid.

Exactly.  I feel really bad for the dude.  He's trying really hard and he's a really good guy.  She just gets on him about everything and he still holds her up like a Queen.  You can tell he's unhappy though and he's just trying to please her.  She constantly rags on his family and shit too.  I met him through her and I've tried talking to her about it but he and I aren't close enough for me to do that with him.  She just kinda seems like she's giving up though and is on cruise control.  At least she hasn't done anything stupid like actually cheated.

My best friend's parents pretty much hate each other and are married.  She's an airline stewardess and he's retired from the air force and a trucking company and is now working on a ship off of Alaska.  Why?  So they don't have to see each other.  That's an insane way to live.  The mom already left once like 10 years ago when she decided she wanted to see if the grass was greener on the other side.  That's not a way to live IMO.

I'll agree that the majority don't want to put in work.  But there are some who do still.  For an example, Kestastrophe posted about his situation here on the bore.  Even after everything his wife did to him he is still willing to try to make it work.  I think that people have a tendency to jump into things too fast and use the word commitment lightly.  From the way you're talking, you seem like the kind of person who would stick it out through rough patches so it makes sense that you could find a female (or male ) that would stick it out for you.  Most people are probably just looking in the wrong people and in the wrong places.

If I were ever to get married, I would put my all into it. If I love the girl enough to marry her I'm sure I'd try hard to keep it going, even if she "doesn't love me" anymore.

For legal reasons or because you think marriage is symbolic of some deep, intimate notions of love?  Often, people don't think about how marriage changes their quality of life until they've been in a long-term relationship for a while.  That's one of the reasons why older couples who have practiced birth control for years suddenly have a baby, because one of them (well usually the woman in that case) didn't want to get a divorce.
