I saw this posted over at the GAF headphone thread and apparently this mod brings the sound quality of the 555s up to the 595 level which are much more expensive. According to the video all you need to do is remove two pieces of tape within the headphones. I have a pair of 555s myself and I'm trying to decide if I should attempt this or not.

These particular headphones are "Open Air" instead of closed, so the way its designed the drivers (or speakers) pull in air through the holes. The lower frequency sounds are reliant on this and are dampened by this little foam adhesive that is placed within right behind the driver, over the little holes (the dude states that about 60% of the holes are being covered by the foam). So when you remove the foam it gives the speakers more air to pull from and ultimately better bass response.

True that. The appeal of these headpones are that they provide a larger soundstage (the lingo thats used, I guess). It sounds like the music is more dispersed instead of feeling like they're coming from two speakers placed next to your ears. Also the highs and mids are more airy which I like. A major negative is sound easily leaks in and out, definitely not a good set for Office and outdoor listening.
