$3,500 is ouch. Seeing what repairing a transmission entails though, I can see why its that much. Even with a manual on hand theres a bunch of shit learned via experience that isn't there in the manual. Seeing a whole transmission pulled apart, the small pieces, gaskets, gears and bolts, its scary.

GOD DAMMIT i was gonna get my fiancee a kindle for her birthday but they're sold out at amazon WTF. the earliest they can ship me one is the 24th but her birthday's in a week. either i give her an i.o.u. (which would probably not go so well) or i have to rack my brain to get her something she doesn't want as much but would be so blown away by my thoughtfulness that she would temporarily forget she wanted a kindle. or i guess i could search craigslist for a used one and pray she doesn't notice. get a nook instead. twice the library, and it seems more usable. my wife prefers it to her previous kindle. available at any b&n near you!

i would totally do this if i was shopping for one, but the this is just like when someone recommends a zune over an ipod - the person i'm getting the gift for doesn't really give a shit about better features/functionality; they want an ipod or a kindle because it's what's popular and anything else would seem second-rate whether it really is or not. thanks for the suggestion tho!

ugh so i was sitting in my kitchen today wondering "what is that god-awful smell?" we've had this fridge sitting in the kitchen unplugged for like two months cuz my lazy-ass landlord won't come get rid of it so of course this has to be what's funking up my house. i open it up and me being the dumbass that i am gasp when i see that the inside is COVERED in black mold. i could feel it's nastiness rushing deep into my lungs and i swear now it's destroying my insides as i type. should i start writing my will or do i still have time to make it to a doctor?

Over two years after being done on the JET program, I finally got my pension refund from the Japanese government. 665,600 yen for the pension and then I can file for the 166,400 yen that was taken out for income taxes. That's about $9,889 total...not too shabby!

Lowe's is now on my shit list. We had to special order a back flush toilet (we don't have enough of a slope in the basement for a regular toilet) since no one actually carries them in stock. The tank arrived broken, so we've been waiting forever for the new one to come in. Some guy from the warehouse called the other day saying the new one was in, and we opened it last night... it's the same broken tank. THEY NEVER REORDERED A NEW TANK LIKE THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO OVER A MONTH AGO. I actually spoke to a guy who worked there who told me how he had called American Standard (manufacturer) and FedEx to see where the new tank was, and how it was on it's way. He made the whole thing up. Now everyone at Lowe's is playing dumb and they're not doing anything to fix the situation.

The bathroom is completely done except for the toilet. You can take a shower and wash your hands, but no toilet.
