Bit of work drama today. We're going through patient lists trying to get people in before the holiday break, but by now many people's benefits have either run out or are running out; most dental plans I've seen renew in January. One guy was scheduled for a perio cleaning next Tuesday, but when I looked up his info I saw the insurance company wouldn't be covering it. I called, told him the details blah blah blah then asked if he wanted to keep the appointment and pay out of pocket, or reschedule in January. He said money was tight and decided to reschedule.
Office manager isn't happy and told me I need to do everything I can to get people in, no matter what. ("In this case you should have reminded the patient the disease needs to be treated on a three month schedule, and it's very important he be seen on time. If he's still hesitant, continue reminding him it's in his best interest, and we can provide a discount to lower the cost etc etc"). I usually do tell people it's best to get treatment on time, but in this case we're a month away from benefits renewing: why try to scare the dude into paying out of pocket when he can just get it done next month with no charge?
