I think it comes down to being relatable. Obviously women will connect with other women in this regard but I think there are neutral comedians that can hit both sides (like Louis CK). For me Rachel Feinstein is almost like this...

I think I'll probably swing for a Windows 7 phone since I'm kinda interested in phone gaming and I don't see many good looking games at all on android (probably because it's really easy to make an android app, so a large number of them suck).

I love my Android, but yeah, gaming on it hasn't really hit any sort of stride yet. I've heard it has something to do with things like version fragmentation (so many handsets running different versions of Android) plus a lack of any real decent DRM. Tons of app piracy. It's improving, but slowly.

We did get Game Dev Story recently though. My Poopsock Studios is on the verge of stardom!

The allure of Windows 7 phone and it's Live gaming is definitely appealing though. If I weren't balls-deep in a contract, I'd probably be checking one out.

I still haven't had any hits on job applications yet. I've applied at Books-a-Million, Dick's Sporting Goods, K-Mart, Sears, Staples, Regal Cinemas, and Target. Blarg. My general manager still hasn't talked to my supervisor about putting me on a probationary period like she said she was going to 5 days ago so I think they're just jerking me around now. My last scheduled day is tomorrow and if I wasn't getting time and a half I just wouldn't show up for it.

The corporate culture these days is "doing more with less," even while making record profits in the recession.  The place I work has not filled about 100 positions this year with this policy, despite making more money than they did in 2009.  If they can get away with making more money with less people, then they are going to do it, more than ever.  I'm not sure if this applies to your dad but if they say that he can be rehired down the road, then it is definitely possible that this is the situation, that your dad probably didn't do anything wrong and is just part of a growing trend with this increasingly jobless recovery.

I think the problem is that many female comedians try way too hard.  Either trying way too hard to be misandrist or trying way too hard to be "one of the boys."  Many male comedians do this as well.

Legends like Carlin, Chappelle, and Pryor are the rare outliers.

Went apartment hunting yesterday and am feeling kinda weird about it.  This is the layout we are going with:



Plenty of room I think, but we weren't able to actually LOOK at an apartment with this floorplan.  They showed us a similar model (which is missing the smaller study and extra bathroom) instead.  The rent seems to be on the high side ($975 a month), but it feels like it can't be helped, since I need a place close enough to a train station for work.  This location is within walking distance of one.   Both my wife and I feel weird because this was the only place we looked at.  Basically my parents looked around a bit for us while we worked and told us this was by far the nicest place.  They also know two people living there, and both like it.  It's hard to get a feel for how good/bad places are online, because every apartment complex in the area we are looking at will only have the negative reviews posted online.   

Anyway, I think it's the rent that's putting us off.  We told a friend the price today and she freaked...said she pays about half that for her place, but then also said it's smaller and shitty (lots of "thugs" everywhere), so who knows.  I've never paid this much for an apartment before, and right now we making only a little more money per month combined than what I used to make on my own on my last job.  Planning on going back Sunday to look at one of my parent's friends places (same layout).

I was watching my friend's little brother for a while yesterday and he kept saying that he wants to play 360, which I didn't want to because he only wanted to play the M rated games and he's six so apparently when I was outside, he took out the Halo disk and put in Just Cause 2, and somehow scratched the shit out of it in the process.  Apparently that toothpaste trick worked really well on the scratches though, now I'm just going to hide the power cable every time kids come over.

ugh, one of my external HDDs is dying...all the folders showed up as empty when I first looked at it today. If I reconnect it a few times, I can browse them as normal but this is the beginning of the end. All the good stuff is already backed up, and I'm doing the rest now. At least I had some warning this time. A 1TB non-recoverable HDD crash is pretty tough to bounce back from!

Dealerships usually way overcharge for everything but it's hard to say how much a paint job costs without knowing what they're doing, a high end paint job will have a lifetime warranty and cost at least a few grand for the full car but you can find other places doing the same car for a few hundred bucks but their paint jobs will only have like a one year warranty.  The high end paint jobs cost so much because rather then just taping up the windows and lights, they completely remove all of them and they also buff and sand the panels before painting.  You should check what the dealership exactly does and then shop around at other places.

I got a car a few years ago that had a lot of dents and paint chipping and since I planned to eventually resell it, I just got the cheap job and made a net profit.

edit: This is just for a couple small paint chips?  It sounds like you're getting ripped.

its two quarter or less sized paint chips that were from the two bolts that held up my front license plate, im going to suggest that maybe the honda dealership is overcharging her and maybe another non official shop would be better.  that's asking a lot though - i hit her, and asking for another quote is a pretty big inconvenience and ultimately it's her decision...tomorrow i'm going to call my insurance company and figure out whether it would be better to pay out of pocket or take the hit with them

it honestly sounds fine to me from what you're saying.  300 isn't bad considering the labor and that they're most likely going to remove those quarter panels, paint.  let it dry.  paint again and then reinstall the panels.
