I started Star Trek: The Next Generation. I'm really surprised by how much I enjoy this show. I heard from many that it was pretty boring. But I really enjoy the cheesiness and just watching the crew interact. I'm only on the first season but so far it's been great. The 2nd episode with the intoxication is fucking incredible. Everyone getting horny and acting like idiots. I loved it.

I am getting ready for a trip to France with the Michel Thomas beginner French audio course.

He may be the best teacher I've ever encountered. He teaches you how to build sentences so naturally and effortlessly you don't even realize how much you are learning 'til later. But you only learn what he chooses to teach. It is fucking nuts that he teaches you how to say 'What is your impression of the political and economical situation in France at present?' before he teaches you the words for 'he' and 'her'

I once started the Spanish course. I never stuck with it, mainly because the app I used kept forgetting where I left off.
Also, English is not my first language, making it a bit more difficult since I need to translate twice each time.

I'm really enjoying it so far. No idea how far it can take me really but at the very least it is fun and is awakening some of the French I learned in school. By September I am supposed to be negotiating wholesale import agreements and such on behalf of my wife which is probably not gonna happen but at least i should be able to order lunch at a cafe or whatever

Looking for some career advice here. I've been on the market for a job since January and I haven't picked up anything serious outside of a failed interview meeting earlier this month that was not my fault. The area is booming with money in tech, but I have no tech credentials or a college education. I was trying and trying, but now that I'm near 28 I need more stability than anything at this time. I've been messing around with coding as of late and I'm not well versed in many languages I am trying them and learning them slowly in my spare time. I started Ruby on Rails which I've gotten the hang of very quickly. I'm trying to get into Android and iOS stuff eventually, but my question isn't about that.

I recently was conversing with a former coworker about what he's doing and he explained that he went through a bootcamp to learn more languages and get the help he needed. The bootcamp in question seems to have just started out, but he took it in the summer last year and found a damn good job. He's also not as savvy or tech oriented as myself, he came from a cook background. So I was wondering if someone finds this place suspicious or not. Given the industry and what they are offering it seems like something for me. I'm only hesitant cause it screams "we prey on the desperate."

This afternoon RCMP management declared in one e-mail that it was taking $1100 from my pocket. Slashed our plainclothes allowance.

Calls to our weak-ass staff-relations representatives (we're the only police force in the country not allowed to have a union/association) got a response of "well, shucks, this is news to us too. They didn't tell us anything about it."

Coupled with our pension contributions increasing, and some health benefits being retooled and scaled back, and it's getting really frustrating.

And, I know it sounds bad for me to be griping about this sort of thing, given the overall difficult economic times, and I still have it good compared to the rest of the population, but.......city and provincial (ie. state) police forces aren't having all these cutbacks like we are.

I like being in the RCMP. I like having the fancy red uniform, I like doing the unique investigations that you only get to do in the RCMP.....I'm just not sure those intangibles are worth it when I could jump ship and slap on a city or provincial uniform on and instantly get paid almost 10k more in salary, and get better equipment etc. too.

I drank too much last night so I woke up hung over as all hell. I was rushing to get my ass out the door to meet up with some family at the local Red Lobster. We get there at 2pm and weren't seated till damn near 5pm. Not cause they didn't have seats but because family didn't even bother to call us and let us know they changed plans. It doesn't help that none of them have cell phones. In all that time we saw three car accidents all caused by the same stupid driver. She was so stupid she kept ramming into the back of other cars. Seriously wtf...

So we eat and not even 5 minutes later I start to go into shock for some damn reason or another. Come to find out I got stung by a bee or something while waiting outside for 3 hours. I also might have a mild allergy to shellfish which made things complicated. Thankfully I keep an epi pen in the car, but did anyone go run to get it for me? Oh fuck no, they all too lazy as shit. So I left everyone there and came back home, fuck paying for their bill.

Fuck today, I feel like my head is gonna burst open due to the pressure. At least my face is back to normal and I can breathe really well. Ice seems to be doing the trick right now.
