Went to bed last night knowing that I could sleep in late (until 8AM). Later I had weird dream that I woke up, started getting ready for work...and then realized it was only 5AM, meaning I had 3 more hours until I had to get up. So they're building a new school here that my kid will be going next school year.
Got the letter from the principal saying about how the school is going to be STEM school, meaning that they're going to focus very heavily on STEM.
Now, I have a STEM related field but I have to admit I'm rather dismayed/worried about this. Everything that I needed to know about how to handle my job I learned from my arts training. Yes, there's some basic logic and stuff but really the craft/art of what I do has nothing to do with STEM. I work with companies full of STEM graduates and these people lack basic comprehension and problem solving skills. Keep in mind, I'm a consultant so I deal with dozens of a companies across many industries and countries every year, and it's almost always the same way. I think we've put STEM on a pedestal and have shut everything else out. No sir, I don't like it.

Well in my uni experience of having a humanities major, a social science major and a STEM major, the STEMers are by far more intelligent on average, and the smarter people in the first two areas were those who were great at math, which starts long before uni.

There's a difference in knowing how to do math and sciences and forcing everyone to go down that path.
I'm rather good at math (though spatial relationships are my bane) but just learning how to do math and apply it would have left me utterly unprepared for my professional life (let alone actual life)

S-Works is the pinnacle of everything we're capable of. No expense is spared, no ideal too abstract, no design too extreme. An accountant from finance once told us we needed to rein in spending for S-Works development; he walked back upstairs with a black eye. Not that we have anything against bean-counters of course, they're some of our best customers.

So I've been drinking and I'm getting pretty testy on gaf with my Disgaea 5 thread, but when gloves are off it really just comes down to that I really hate creepy guys who make the internet a bad place. I'm not even SJW or anything, it's just that the perv internet community offends the fuck out of me and it dirties the actual REAL internet fucking discussion that I want to have about STATS and quality gameplay systems. I hate fucking fanservice/softcore porn-ish games and the people it brings to the discussion of games; because they don't want a game, they just want to get off. And that just makes me smh. I guess I'm kind of elitist when it comes to gaming but I respect the game medium for its depth of gameplay or occasional different and engrossing story-telling medium. It's a quality medium and I respect everyone who tries to make something that counts. The appeal to the lowest common demoninator stuff wouldn't be so bad except the crowd that it brings in is intolerable. Just makes me sad :\

Nah, N1 games (and Disgaea) are pretty family friendly normal PG-13 fun times for all stuff outside of an occasional flat-chested 1,000 year old witch or something. It's actually likely the reason why Nippon Ichi is always on the verge of bankruptcy whereas the other companies that have sold out to panty-stripping otaku goodness are staying in the green.

N1 games are mainly about the stat-based gameplay and slapstick humor and not really a fanservice vessel at all.

So I'm studying for the Broker's License exam and coming from a privileged existence, it's the first time I've had to study for an intense test while also working full time. It's going well, and I've always enjoyed studying, plus I know about 50% of the material from being a Real Estate lawyer, but the stuff I don't know is pretty complex like financing and all the different loan/interest types and regulation laws controlling them. Spent last week+weekend studying and next weekend I'm in a prep course all day Sat/Sun and taking the test next week on Wednesday. Head feels like it's about to explode from information >_<
