Just implement replay like hockey does.

Was gonna say this.  The NHL's already got a template for limited use of replay in a free-flowing sport that's quick, effective, and unobtrusive.  It's not like you have to choose between endless NFL-style lawyering or a purist traditionalism that produces tons of terrible calls.

Not worth spending too much time talking about, though.  Professional soccer's run by a hodgepodge of governing bodies and the biggest of them can't be trusted.  The organization that changed the rules on the fly to keep France and Portugal from playing each other in qualifying isn't going to reform the refereeing system.

At americans realizing they have no pull and nobody gives a fuck about NFL or that Baseball shit you guys have. Criticize football, but as soon as there's a Wold Cup they come out of the woods.

Can't resist the biggest party in the world.
Baseball doesn't have instant replay, except for homeruns.

I don't care for instant replays in soccer.  They need to credential their officials better, though.  But the complaints are valid because those making them are seeing that other leagues can modernize their officiating.  To argue that this is just the way we do it and if you don't like get out of the sport is pretty juvenile.

I don't follow soccer at all, but there really aren't any replays?

Nope, just refs on the sidelines and one ref on the field. 1910 up in there.

Yes, it's archaic because they don't rely on video footage to make their decisions  :lol

It's more than archaic, it's downright stupid.  Give the coaches the ability to challenge 3 calls a game and have challenge times added to stoppage time.  Then you have a sport that doesn't take considerably longer and isn't ruled by refs.  This is somehow a laughable idea to the Europeans, though.  England wouldn't be upset at all if they had gone home with 3 points instead of advanced with 7 because of 2 huge blown calls.

Did it not occur to you that the language barrier would actually make the sport LONGER if such a rule were implemented?

Or maybe they should let the translators challenge the calls  :lol

Give the coach a little blue card to hold up.  Don't come to international events without someone who can speak English.  It's not that hard.  Go ahead and embrace your badly officiated games, though.  Shit is worse than the NBA.

Right, the coach holds up the little blue card.

Don't you think the coach should have like a blue staff, and raise it along with the little blue card?

I just said hockey, dipshit.

Baseball hates replay just as much as soccer, pretty much. Replays for only HR calls isn't much at all.

Enjoy the win and shut the fuck up.

Don't like it? Don't watch it cigarillo. I think NFL wouldn't suck so fucking hard if each game didn't stop so much, but hey. It's made for Fat americans to see, you gotta give them time to get up and go pick up that food and beer in between. They'll never change that though will they

I complain about baseball not having enough replay. Should I stop watching my favorite sport, too?

I'm sure if I complained after a U.S loss/draw, it'd be construed as sour grapes. Now that the U.S won, I should enjoy the win and stfu. I'm just being consistent.

There are financial reasons as to why the majority of American sports have many breaks and pauses and timeouts etc.

it was a comeback, actually. after the england match had ended, slovenia was still in second place and usa in third place... until donovan scored!

Of course there are questionable calls in those leagues.  Especially the NBA which is as bad as the World Cup has been (the NBA has extremely limited replay rules and there are so many fouls).  The NFL does a much better job at getting it right on the big calls, though, and I'm guessing the same is true for the NHL.

Sports with refs tend to be flawed to a certain extent for obvious reasons.  How flawed they are varies greatly with the rules of the game (sports with lots of players and lots of contact are much more difficult to officiate than something like pole-vaulting) and how smart the organization running it is.  A good organization finds a way to minimize human error in officiating while not heavily affecting the flow of the game.

Fuck video footage, Football isn't a stop and go game.

Stick to your  3 minutes in 1 minute out sports, USAers
You can often see the replay before the ref makes his call anyways.

But NOOOOOoooooooo, the refs can't tell when a slovenian is bear-hugging you unless fall on the ground grab your knee and cry like a little girl.

GERMANY V. ENGLAND

 :o :o :o

http://chasemeladies.blogspot.com/2006/06/world-cup-diary.html

Quote from: Harry Hutton
-Oh to be in England, now that football’s there, to drive around beeping my car horn like a cunt, and taunt my idiot countrymen in German. “Ha! Ha! One-nil, Englisher dumbkopfs.” The expression of hatred on their dumb resentful faces sends my pleasure sensors soaring.

Most of them are too thick even to insult me properly, though sometimes they’ll come back with, “Two World Wars and one World Cup,” which I always counter with, “Three World Cups and one economic miracle,” and then Deutschland Uber Alles or the Horst Wessel Song. During Italia 90 I got in three different fights. It’s always a magical time for me.
