Games over. That Offsides goal is like using a cheat in Morrowind to buff your stats, it just ain't the same :fbm I'm sure Mexico is deflated too, would be awesome if they can overcome this but I doubt it, Argentina are just too strong.

Mexico clearly lost concentration after that protest.  Argentina is a strong team, though.  Is a decently refereed match that hard to come by today?

Confidence levels of Mexico are destryoed. After being wronged by the ref, they have their own player pushing them into the hole.

There's no coming back from this unless half time delivers an epic revival.

This amount of errors aren't common at all at in club competitions. There's something really wrong with this whole thing, i don't understand, too many big errors in such a short amount of time.

Here come the theatrics. Amazing how the refs always help the bigger teams with this shit.

If it were Mexico doing it, the Ref would be telling him to crawl outside.

he had his moments in this game, and could've scored a goal. anyway, i was talking about all the games he's played so far; he set up a lot of argentina's goals...

... like today when he gave the assist for tevez's goal :smug

Footballs credibillity as a professional sport is on the line with such shamefull refereeing in both games today. I'm really gutted, especially for Mexico.

Both games were totally ruined by these decisions as truth be told we will never know what would have happened otherwise.

Shamefull stuff, more of this and I'm out of this sport.

Offsides that close to the goal is pretty hard to call though.  Also, it's just counter-intuitive to wait for the defense to get back in position before going for the rebound attempt.  I know it's blasphemous but maybe the sport would be better off with some modifications to the offsides rule.

Not if its this obvious, a debated tackle yes, but not this. The whole cup and the game itself are at stake here.
Yeah.  I was joking.  Hence the quotation marks.  I was aping the football traditionalists who see any implementation of video replay as an affront to their sport.

How awesome would it have been if all the Mexicans fell into position and just sat down in protest. Would have made a huge point about the bad ref'ing. It almost seemed like they were going to do something when they put their hand up when talking to the ref.

I have no defense.

2 major, game changing, and so CLEAR blunders by the Refs, twice in a day is more than i can take. I'm used to a thing here and there across 33 games in a league...not this.

There's nothing to defend. It's embarrassing. And Fifa is gonna have a hot potato on their hands, specially given their silence.

When USA complains about bad calls, it's part of the game.  When any other team complains about bad calls, it's an outrage.  :usacry

Seems so. And TripleA isn't in here being a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow today.

well, it looks like we won't learn from the 4-1 reality check.

The press seem to be painting this as all Capello's fault and that the goal that wasn't would have changed the match had it stood and that the team were "deflated" and couldn't recover.

This is the upside of living in a country where soccer's a secondary sport.  There are no patriotic delusions of grandeur or moral panics when we lose.

Can't help but wonder if the Premier League (especially its elite teams) using so much foreign talent is a problem.  Lord knows Arsenal's done more to develop France's national team than it has England's.

Yeah, but he was already on the payroll! It's just $18 million down the drain, since they're obviously going to fire him.

I don't think it's just an effort problem.  Many of the English players seem to have the same skill sets which make it hard for them to work together even if they wanted to.  It's like everyone up front is good at headers, crosses and long shots but nobody can break down the defense through dribbling or short passes.

dcharlie--I think many of the English fans attribute it to a lack of effort to ignore the reality that some of the players just aren't that good. I mean, look at Terry--that defensive diving header against Slovenia, as silly as it looked, was brilliant anyway; you can't say that he was lacking for interest or passion or whatever. But Terry is a pretty slow guy and the first two goals Germany scored exposed the positional unawareness of the English center-backs just as nearly every goal against the US did the same to Bocanegra and DeMerit.

England does have far more footballing talent than the US, of course, but it's not being put to good use at the national level...

EDIT: Yeah, encouraging the long-ball game is a waste of fine talent, but at least the English manage to occasionally hit a target man. Against Ghana the US looked like they were just aimlessly booting the ball down the field. Shocking stuff.

EDIT 2: And as an American, I feel completely vindicated in calling for limited video replay technology in the game. We got so much shit, especially from the English fans, in the GAF thread. "That's football, Yanks. Deal with it." They're eating crow now!

They've been facing nothing but shit teams.

Which is why people will all be wondering what happened when they lose in a rather simple fashion against Brazil.

Portugal always blunders in the qualifiers until it has to start winning.

Slovakia is shit, that they beat an uninspired Italy is worth jack shit. We saw today against Holland, they had space, but they could barely connect two passes without fucking up, technically. In front of the goal, they missed.

Holland didn't exactly brush aside Denmark, as they had the luck on their side. But that's cool man, when Brazil gets you out of the tournament you'll see how vanilla this holland is.
