Benson has been angry over the Davis trade demand and her belief that "outside forces" are trying to push the franchise into decisions that don't make sense, league sources said.

Her mandate has been to "take back control from outside forces," one league source told ESPN. Benson has been adamant with the organization about finding a pathway to sustainable winning in one of the league's smallest markets and plans to be aggressive in pursuing the best available candidates to oversee basketball operations, league sources said.

"We will immediately begin the process of restructuring our basketball operations department," Benson said. "This will include a comprehensive, but confidential, search aided by outside consultants to identify a new leader of our basketball operations, directly reporting to me."

Cross-sports venting:
I have accepted that the Bulls are a joke. The Reinsdorf family will own the team forever and the Bulls will be terrible until they luck into a generational talent again.

However, everybody thought that the White Sox were Jerry's favorite child. But as it turns out they let a deal for one of the best free agents to ever play the game slip away because Jerry Reinsdorf didn't like paying him when he would have been 92 years old.

And they say you can't take it with you. :girlaff

These eastern conference playoffs are gonna be great. They were really good last year too but you'll have several legit contenders (aka best team that isn't the Warriors) this year as opposed to LeBron vs. EC field so I'm excited.

The Los Angeles Lakers and free agent Carmelo Anthony are pausing talks on a possible contract agreement unless the franchise makes a turn back toward pursuit of Western Conference playoffs contention, league sources told ESPN.

The Lakers had been leaning toward signing Anthony for the rest of the season -- until losses in four of the past five games left the organization and Anthony's camp wondering if it made sense to bring the veteran into an unsettled environment with suddenly so little chance of making the playoffs, league sources said.

I don't understand all these pundits worrying that LeBron is risking his legacy by spending his last few seasons screwing up the Lakers. Makes him even greater in my eyes.

It's gonna be funny this offseason and next season if/when the Lakers fail to sign another star and get stuck getting whatever garbage players Lebron is still friends with.

"While Buss has been an ardent backer of Walton, she has also empowered Johnson, who has been less resolute in his support. His efforts have all worked against his coach rather than with him. After delivering James in July, Johnson ignored the pleas of the coaching staff that he retain Brook Lopez and Julius Randle. Instead, he signed controversial and limited journeymen JaVale McGee, Michael Beasley and Lance Stephenson."

This has been a rough season to watch as a Lebron fan.  :snoop

Which is part of the reason for my lack of posts in this thread.

Unfortunately its hard for me to see things improving that much. It's basically the Kobe 2.0 situation. Star player on big contract on a crappy team. That's not exactly the hot spot free agent destination.

This is why I wanted him to go to philly. Those young guys are ready compared to the Lakers who are seasons away. The decline process has begun yet he still has to do all the heavy lifting on a squad like the lakers.

When Zion Williamson goes into beast mode I can see those comparisons to younger LeBron. Only plus like 70-80 pounds.

He's got that same absurd hard dribble move that LeBron and Kawhi have where dudes can't take it away but desperately try for some reason even as they're being knocked away from the force of the body hitting them.

With the playoffs already out of the picture, LeBron James and the Lakers played for pride in Sunday's 111-106 win over the Sacramento Kings -- and to appease the mythical basketball gods.

"I would never cheat myself," James told Spectrum SportsNet in his on-court interview, after recording his eighth triple-double of the season (and 81st of his career) with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. "I know we're out the playoff race, but if I'm on the court, I'm going to play how I play, and I play to win. So, I will never cheat the game.

"There's such a thing called 'game gods.' And they're watching no matter what you're doing, and it's our obligation to go out and be a professional, and that's what I'm about."

After the contest, James expounded on his approach for the 32-41 Lakers, who snapped a five-game losing streak.

"When I'm on the floor, I've got to play the game no matter what our circumstances is, no matter how many minutes I'm out on the floor, through the basketball gods, I've always respected the basketball gods," he said. "If I'm on the floor, I've got to try to play as hard as I can or do something to affect the game and not cheat the game. So, if I'm on the floor, if I'm in uniform, then I've got to try to make things happen.

"Not saying I'm going to make every shot, not saying I'm going to make every play or not have any turnovers. But just try to make an impact on the game and, like I said, I was on the floor tonight, and I was able to make a couple plays to help make our team win."

"Memphis was the only team that showed me any consideration," Noah tells ESPN.com. The Grizzlies promised a small role. That was fine with Noah. He needed to build his confidence back almost from scratch.

He injected energy right away. At his first practice, Noah dunked on rookie Jaren Jackson Jr. and screamed in celebration, "Don't do it to him like that, Sticks!" he and his coaches recall. (Noah's high school nicknamed him "Stickman" because he was so gangly.)
