i tried to play OG Bioshock again recently and tapped out pretty early. The atmosphere is great if you're in the mood for it but comically grimdark if not. An odd thing happens when 'realistic' graphics age: they start to look absurd and lose all verisimilitude. So the little sisters and such just look like ridiculous little 3D puppets to me now
Did you find parts of Bioshock scary? Few people think of Bioshock as scary but it's actually just as freaky as Silent Hill. You walk along in a dead city full of crazies and traps around every corner.
I remember just exploring around and suddenly turning to find an ugly ass splicer. Made my skin tingled. Probably scarier cuz I was using headphones.
What kills the excitement a bit is knowing that you'll always resurrect. They fixed that in a patch but the game should have shipped with no resurrection.
to be fair, only $100 million is the development budget. the other $100 million is the marketing budget to try to make some of that stupid budget back somehow.
That's a lot of marketing for a non-bro game
