Fucking stupid. This game has so far has been pretty good about being challenging but fair, but this shit just forces me to radically backtrack if I want to stand any chance whatsoever against the boss. Mega annoyed. I mad.

the game world isn't that big.... and there's many a shortcut to unlock. You just have to go back to the church and buy a curse stone off the dude

I'm in the depths though. That's way far.

Anyway, regardless of distance, forced back tracking is forced back tracking, and forced backtracking is shit game design. Period.

I still love this game. So much.

I did the backtracking. And then I beat the boss. And then I died in Blighttown and then immediately accidentally fell off a ledge, losing 38k souls forever.

You're not forced to backtrack. You could just complete rest of the dungeon with half health, then buy the item once you're out. :D

edit: Don't think this was mentioned in this thread, but PtD Edition has some balance changes as well: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/606312-dark-souls/63856242

This is what they've found so far:

OMG.

was making my way through the depths. was playing a bit carelessly because I knew the bonfire was close and i had plenty of estus flasks.

then all of a sudden my game was invaded by an enemy player. i turned that off on 360 and forgot about it.

fuckin battle for my life. luckily the guy wasn't too good and i managed to take him down. my halberg is great since i can hit him before he got even close to me. heart was pounding super hard.

The statue in the middle is your Character Tendency, and the archstones show your tendency for each world.

Both Character and World Tendency unlock new events if you're pure white or pure black.

This is awesome. all the things I learned when playing the 360 version and now I'm rocking a 200+ damage halberg thats already been modified at a blacksmith. i have the dragon axe from the Gaping Dragon but I cant use it since it needs 50 strength :O

tried to kill the bridge dragon and failed. on the 360 it just killed itself so i got lucky.

managed to kill the dakroot garden and undead parish knights on the first try.

It's not useless, but it's way more important to be agile. You should always use less than 50% of your max equip burden.

It's actually really easy. Just unequip parts until you reach below the threshold.

I prefer Demon's Souls to Dark Souls and you should definitely give it a try, BobFromPikeCreek. Maybe you can borrow a system from someone?

Fantastic gameplay, blended with the most over the top art-house pontification, and a gorgeous soundtrack. It stands in my head as a fucking masterpiece.

Anyway, gamers are pretty weak these days if this passes for HARDEST GAME EVER. This is like the perfect level of difficulty, and I wish they made more games with some semblance of challenge.

I'm finding the game a fair bit more difficult now I'm rolling Dex, not min maxing with Strength weapons. Little to no stun lock or ground smashes and the uchi has really small hit boxes, I definitely enjoy using Strength based weapons a lot more than Dex ones. Not sure how much longer I'm going to continue with my run, things aren't as smooth on my PC as I hoped. It looks much better at a higher res but the framerate is a little frustrating. Mostly good, but dips in and out :( hopefully I'll be able to squeeze a little more performance out of my PoS laptop

After the Gargoyles, New Londo probably isn't the place you want to be..

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Head back to the beginning of the bridge with the Red Dragon where you first meet Knight Solaire and head into the depths. There's a pretty frustrating/cheap fight at the end of this area to get a key to access the sewers, but if you run past the fog door to the right you can open a shortcut to the first bonfire making running back (after you inevitably die numerous times) slightly less frustrating

DECISION MAKING TIME.

I have a +10 gargoyle halberg.

I can ascend it to Lighting RIGHT NOW.

Or I can bail out of Anor Londo, head back to Undead Parish, then down into the depths, then into blighttown, then into queelags domain, then into the lava area (cant remember name) and try to get the chaos ember. I know where it is and have gotten it before in my 360 save.

I heard chaos is stronger.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Sen's Fortress was driving me mad earlier, I felt like I was inching my way through it. Cleared it before I could find the bonfire and I'm in Anor Londo now.

It was painful in the moment, but looking back I'm very grateful the game would not let me progress before I really knew the area in and out. That place is gonna be a walk in the park next game.

finished Anor Londo. I did the Dukes Archive but wasn't able to get into the crystal cave (spent a long time getting to the entrance of the garden only to get killed by a mimic beast FUCK.) so i bailed out of there.

Figured I would go back and kill the the Hyrda but i feel off the fucking water edge and didnt feel like doing it again

then went and took care of the valley of the drakes. not too hard.

so now i'm here:

then i tried in another spot and found a guy who looked much less badass so we start fightan, but then his white phantom friend like pops out of hiding and tries to backstab me. Luckily i rolled the fuck out of there then used the black soul stone thing to escape but it was close

whats with 2v1?

basically it did. Most Soul drops are doubled from the original version of the game. Humanity is also much much easier to aquire, thus you can co-op bosses all the time and that makes shit easier. Certain exploitable items were nerfed though. Still, a lot of weapons still kick ass and there are lots of viable strategies.

well most people seem to think it's better to kill Smough (fat one) first so I did that. I targeted Ornstein because he's faster and I didnt want to lose track of him. With Ornstein targeted I kited them around and slowly took out Smough. It's just a matter of using the pillars to keep them from hitting you. There's some videos you can use but obvs you have to do it yourself. I will say that switched to a light armor set so I could roll faster.

Def focus on just one because when you do kill one, the other turns 'SUPER' and gets all their health back. In Ornstein's case he gets really big and all his attacks are stronger. For him I basically always attempted to put pillars between your both at all times. When he does a side swipe with his spear I run at him, roll between his legs and hit him once or twice. Then back away and dodge, block, and wait until he does it again.

now i have a +13 fire sword. not as powerful as my lightning gargoyle halberd but at least i have a fire weapon now.

took a long fucking time going all the way to the demon ruins just for the fire ember and the blacksmith in the catacombs is a bitch to get to. but it's worth it.
