Oh and does Mafia 1 have any story connection to 2?  I never played the original.  Will pick it up when Steam drops it to like $2.50-$5.

a small one

but yes, one mission deals with the first game.

don't know if it would have the same impact if you played it the other way around

Thanks to InfectedGib I got a chance to play Mafia II.  Game is very immersive.  Driving around the period piece city listen to old-time radio is a cool experience.  I thought I read somewhere before release that you have to follow the traffic rules and stop at lights and stuff?  Didn't really notice early on but I tried to stop at red lights when I saw them.  I wish there was a car view with a rear view mirror because if you stop at a stop sign it's hard to see oncoming traffic before you turn into a lane.

Graphics are pretty nice.  I'm maxing it out and get around 30fps probably.

do you have physx on? there is a trick to make it run a lot better with physx on

what is this trick

http://physxinfo.com/news/3628/mafia-ii-demo-tweaking-physx-performance/

basically turns off physx stuff that is less important like other character's clothing and whatnot.  The best use of it is when you just shoot a wall and watch the dust and debris come off of it imo.

btw, my case/mobo is advertised as being able to accomodate 3 way SLI - lol, no. I tried to put an old 280 in there and it was just comedy. Yours must  be like an aircraft hangar or something.

It's a Thermaltake Xaser VI.  Drinky would probably think it's embarrassing aesthetically because it looks like a gamer case.

I don't care though since I bought it purely for practical reasons.  I had a business-like Antec case and it just wasn't roomy enough for a power system.

The Xaser VI has 10 PCI slots and plenty of room for fans or water-cooling.  It's also surprisingly quiet despite all the many fans I've stuck in it.  I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to build a high performing PC.

how is evil genius as a gift? the things I want to give to people are things they already have or things I don't know if they'll want.

and getting that score in shatter was surprisingly difficult compared to to others.  managed to get 12,600,000 but screwed up on the second level or else it would have been higher.

let me just check the global leade.....ah, 3,001,000,000.  I can beat it.

Evil Genius is a great dungeon master style game.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's a great game that is broken in so many tiny, fundamental ways. Like I'll be having a 100% great time and then.

The game totally fucking bottlenecks about 1/4 of the way through any level- You just have to sit on your hands and micromanage the map screen. But while you're doing that, your base is getting fucked because your Minion AI is brain dead and the traps/secuirty systems that you spent a fortune on don't really work.

That said, it's a really unique game and you will enjoy it up until the point where it's many quirks basically prevent you from enjoying it.

The bonus mode in Shatter is brutal. The main thing is subtle curvature of the trajectories as they pull back towards the exit.

This is all true, its one playthrough and you will be done with it. It's fine for however much it is on Steam.

Both games are worth it at that price, if just to serve as benchmarks whenever you upgrade.  Even with their flaws, most gamers should easily get at least 5 hrs of enjoyment from each.
