Spoke to my old man on the weekend who's done work for many high profile finance institutions and government departments on user security and authentication. All he knows is what he's read in the newspaper and for him it came down to something very simple - "they're not a software company, they don't understand why it's important".

I actually don't care about the giant ot threads outside of two specific issues.

1.) It's sort of a symptom of that group think let's hype shit to death menality that I dislike. I notice the threads with the most massive ot's tend to contain the most annoying fans. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.
2.) The anti-ot threads where everybody pats themselves on the back for creating a negative one for whatever current backlash trend is going on for the moment.

I don't even believe that 95% of people even read those opening posts. They just tend to be an ego excercise for fans of a particular game. "Hey look man. We got the baddest op. It's three posts long!"

And in full disclosure yes I made a few ot threads in my gaf days.

I'm probably really jaded but I don't see the big deal. If the OP is supposed to be just informational without being all kiss ass (like they all are anyway) who cares who makes it. The discussion is supposed to be what drives the thread. Not the OP.

The difference is that BruceLeeRoy is a kiss-ass, and solely responsible for the bloated OTs trend.

But I'm not gonna lie, I often read OPs of OTs (especially for games that went under my radar), as long as they're informative and not obscenely stretched by dozens of distracting hi-res banners, more than not. Also, the less it reads like a press release or a copy/pasta the better, which sadly isn't the case for most high profile games' OTs.
