Actually no, it was marketed as a revolution and that it would change the way we play games. And many game designers were talking about potential and shit which was used by Nintards to claim 3rd party support, lots of people were duped into buying one.

Considering the Wiimote technology has been used to create real-life holograms, I'd say it revolutionized quite a lot.

Also causual games were coming sooner or later. Nintendo only sped up the process by having a remote, which is simple for the "mass market" to understand than "dem controller thingy-ma-jigs" for your grandma and grandpa to jump in. Otherwise iPhone/Android et. al. would've just pumped out "casual titles." The question is: Would they have been as popular as some of the shit that got shoveled onto the Wii platform if there was no Wii?

Random factoids that support wii sucking

1. motion controls are imprecise and slow, often permeated with extreme lag, shit. games went from being about the games to being about the controls. when the controls define a game, you're doing it wrong.
2. lack of games
3. under utilized online system, wii ware lol
4. gimmicky awful controls for games like ssx blur ruin games with decent potential.
5. lack of genres that the wiimote COULD be good with. Example: rail shooters. The only such game that has came out for the wii in its lifespan is Sin and Punishment 2. There are lightgun games like House of the Dead Overkill but that ain't cuttin' it.
6. Online is shit.
7. Under powered, games look worse than many early ps2 games. lol @ playing wii games on an hdtv.
8. Third party support is dreadful.
9. You have to turn your wii on to play it.

Thankfully wii has Mario Galaxy.

The Wii was fine and had a steady stream of software with the exception of 2008 (debatable) and 2011 (non-debatable).  Throughout the gen it was obvious many people were knocking the catalogue on a consistent basis because it wasn't HD or didn't have achievements or some other arbitrary bullshit.  Biggest gripe I had with the system was the fucked up implementation of online, but the software evolution showcased a lot of proof of concepts that I think will come to a refined fruition with the WiiU (unless 3rd parties just stick to the tablet thingy). 

I think what I enjoyed most was the off kilter stuff.  The marketplace has for a long time been saturated in male empowerment escapist fantasies, so it was nice to have a system with stuff like World of Goo, Boom Blox, Endless Ocean, etc.  Although ios has respectably stepped up in that regard once third parties left the system around 09.

So, no regrets, except 2011 is perhaps the dryest spell since the gamecube days.

Of course if a person also got a lot of enjoyment out of the system that's fine too. Who am I to argue personal enjoyment levels of individuals.

To me it all came down to perception; The highest selling systems always provided a steady stream of high quality games I wanted to play, the Wii failed to translate that, while the HD systems did, and continue to do so to this day. Granted, "high quality" is subjective, but the "steady stream" was just not there, or at least not comparable to the other two systems.

This is why a lot of Wii fans were calling out publishers and developers, going as far as calling them "fanboy." It's because the release schedule was notably not up to what a lot of people expected.

So even though the Wii had high highs, broke sale records, and catered to a demographic that probably doesn't agree with any of these sentiments at all, I still viewed it unfavorably.

I feel like I'm forgetting stuff.  Let it be known I'm not the type to give shit a pass.  No More Heroes is awful but often recommended by other people.  Super Paper Mario is up there with Twilight Princess as aimless wank that felt like Nintendo just shit something out carelessly.  Silent Hill Shattered Memories is an incredibly half baked experience.  My point is that the system has had its fair share of shit, happy jazz, and mediocrity as with any other comparable system.

Looks like you can get a Wii for under $100 on ebay these days, so I'm thinking about picking one up next month when I get some money I've been waiting on. Still, 90% of the games I've been interested in this gen have been 360/PS3.

I think I'll pick up one too. I missed a few releases. I'll probably looks for something cheaper though.
