No, man.

PS5

P is an inverted 9

S in an inverted 2

5 is an inverted 2

So now we have the number 922, but what's the significance of this number?

Maybe it's a birthday of someone, someone important, say someone as important as Ken Kutaragi.

This may seem like a coincidence, almost impossible to conceive, but all it really takes is a very long view.

I'm sure all know by now that the Xbox name derived from Microsoft's DirectX required for primarily games. Naming conventions for Sony are at the same time more and less obscure...Playstation is obvious but the numbering scheme has some recent connections with features that might not be coincidence. Playstation 2 supports 2D, Playstation 3 supports 3D and 3-D and Playstation 4 is going to support 4K resolution. And yes this requires a very long view that to most of us is impossible to conceive so we think it coincidence.

Coming from the review...

Editor's note: This review originally stated that aiming was handled through the Wii Remote's infrared sensor, which is incorrect. The review has been amended accordingly. GameSpot regrets the error.

Some people are debating just what this means for the review in general. The GameSpot reviewer didn't find the controls to be responsive, and now we've come to learn that he believed aiming was handled through IR. Does this warrant another look at controls, or d the same complaints stand?

Personally, I would think that the controls aspect should be looked at again. If the reviewer was trying to aim by pointing the Wiimote via IR sensor, I could see how that would lead to some major control issues. He would be holding the Wiimote in pointer position when not needed or intended, or even used.

Quote
Gamespot editor admits mistakes in their Zelda: Skyward Sword analysis:

With a short footnote to the analysis, and without giving further explanations.

Quote:
Editor's note:This review originally stated that aiming was handled through the Wii Remote's infrared sensor, which is incorrect. The review has been amended accordingly. GameSpot regrets the error.

It might seem that this error has few implications, but in my opinion it is more important than Gamespot would have us to believe.

One of the biggest criticisms of the analyst is concerned with problems caused by the aiming function in Skyward Sword. The truth is that these problems did not exist, but the analyst did not understand the aiming function in SS did not use the sensor bar. This caused to him more of a problem when using objectsor when entering in first person view.

As I stated in other post:

Quote:
Someone should explain Tom that Skyward Sword doesn't use the sensor bar to calibrate the wiimote. I think all his problems with the control are because of this.

Now, when you press the button to access the aiming function (entering in first person view or when using certain items) the game will consider you're pointing at the center of the screen, taking as reference the position of the wiimote when you pressed the button. So, if you press the button when your wiimote is pointing to the floor, the game will "think" the floor is the center of the screen.

Pressing the down arrow button will reset the central position, taking the position of the wiimote in that particular moment as reference, and giving the false impression that you need to recalibrate the wiimote all the time.

This is easily solved by pressing the "aiming" button (c or B -only with certain items-) RIGHT AFTER you aim at the center of the screen with your wiimote.

Why did Nintendo take this approach? Probably to give fast access to menus. Now you don't need to aim at the screen to move the cursor. With a simple and fast gesture you can choose the item you need in that particular moment. This allows to use the bow or the slingshot with the wiimote in vertical position, too (as in Wii Sports Resort).

So this is, in my opinion, the reason why Tom thought that the wiimote didn't work properly, as he even says that the infrared sensors are faulty. And they are not faulty, they simply aren't used.

As I said, someone should explain this to him. Maybe this is the reason he had issues with the wiimote, and could change his opinion about its controls.

Obviously, this jeopardizes the analysis as a whole, as the analyst hasn't even been able to understand this fact. The truth is that if the man was having control issues every time he used objects or entered first person view (something he said in the analysis but that I think they have removed by now), I certainly can understand that he developed a bias towards the control system, modifying his perception of the sword control and his impression of the game as whole.

We must say thanks to Gamespot for their good will when admitting their mistake, but I'm surprised how they minimize its implications (in my opinion they completely put into stake the analyst's capacity to assess properly the game...)

Note: Please forgive my lousy English, as it is not my natural language.

People are crazy who pull the "Japanese gaming hasn't gotten worse this gen.  You're just a racist Asian game hating wrpg player with no taste who ignores handhelds!!".  Japan's video game market has been going down the tubes for years now and there's no stopping the plunge.  Yes, the quality games tend to be on handheld, but that's apples and oranges to the point that the GOOD games just aren't being made in bulk.

Serious question: What has Sony Japan published this generation? I know Demon's Souls, but as a developer what have they actually published/worked on?

Also Namco is still relevant? Outside of like... the Tales games which are super niche outside of Japan I don't think I've heard ANY hype toward most Namco games that aren't sloppy seconds of previous publishers works (see: Dark Souls).

Capcom's decline is mind boggling. There's times where they do some things that may turn out right but the further you dig into it it's just "what the fuck are you doing?!"

Square's been up and down since last generation. But I guess that's a matter of opinion than "fact/Japan Decline."

Konami... I don't think I've actually played anything new from Konami that wasn't Metal Gear Solid 4 this gen. Otherwise it's ports like the MGS HD collection for me from them. They've pretty much become the Metal Gear house and that's going away because Kojima is tired of the series + pretty much attempting to tie everything there into a timeline. MGS3 being part of the timeline for MGS2->4 was stupid and probably the worst thing to happen to that game. But I digress.

That reminds me... I need to check out Lords of Shadow because the demo was okay but it wasn't a $60 title to me. And the DS Castlevania's were okay, but could've been better if they weren't such a grind for items at times. I don't mind the Metroidvania formula for the series but it's gotten stale over the years, granted.

Internal developments and not just publishing?  Just Gran Turismo 5, I think.  Sony Japan is one of the baffling mysteries of this gen.

It's not really a mystery. Like GT5, the Last Story (or whatever it's called the ICO game) has been in development for a long while. And like GT5, I think that's going to disappoint ICO/Sony fans.

Capcom was killing it at the beginning of the 360's lifespan too. Not sure why they abandoned what was working.

I dunno. I have a love/hate relationship with Lost Planet and Dead Rising was okay until you learned the fact that "Infinity Mode"/the sandbox mode wasn't a true sandbox and more a timed survival mode with an insane achievement/unlock included: 7-day-survivor wanted like 24 hours of continuous X-box Use just to unlock a toy sword that kinda matched but wasn't a ranged weapon like Megaman's "buster" that was given for killing 20,000 something zombies in one playthrough.

Otherwise Resident Evil 5 was hugely disappointing after the hype/initial trailers and Street Fighter 4 is a mixed bag. Lost Planet 2 was pretty tolerable but still a poor "game that attempted to appeal to Western Gamers" and it's been downhill since.

At the same time: I think some people that give the "handheld defense" for JRPGs and Japanese games are a bit clueless. Western gamers aren't a handheld gaming majority and they like sitting down and playing games for an hour or two in front of something. Handhelds can do that, but they are generally smaller screens plus a bit more cramped in controls in addition to not really fitting some genres (Street Fighter 4 on the 3DS being an example) too well. So going "but there is still quality games on handhelds" is just... no. There may be, but why should people lower their expectations because the Japanese moved to lower development costs systems because they can't seem to change gears and move toward what "western" gamers want.

Boku no natsumi ps3
Siren remake
Ape Escape mini games for move
Echochrome i/ii
GT5
TLG
Gravity Daze
Hot Shots 5 & psp ones
Loco Roco 1-3
Papaton 1-3
White Knight PSP

Probably a few other minor blobs and some of those probably don't count but I'm not going to nitpick.

So they've done a little but it's spread out and filled with minor titles.  Then again they didn't publish a "ton" during ps1/ps2 either.

Shrug.  I think I was more upset with them before I learned gravity daze was siren team and looks neat.

That and the creeping slide towards lolianimu Japacrap.  Most socially aware consumers won't buy a game if it makes them feel like a pedophile at the cash register at Gamestop.  If whole genres are dominated by those themes, they're going to say "this isn't for me."  I can't blame people for picking dudebro space marines over 10 year old blue haired lolis with DDD tits who are really 900 year old demons.

It's not like the creepy niche Japanese stuff even gets released in the US.

Anyhow back to Sony Japan Studio.  I think last gen they had basically 4 quality teams putting out games you'd actually want to play:  Team Siren (Siren 1, 2), Team Ico (Ico, SoTC), Ape Escape Team (AE 2, 3), PD (Gran Turismo 3, 4).

At least 3 of those teams are still alive and making games, even if they are slooooooooowly making them.  Real shame that they gave up on Ape Escape though.  It seems like a huge missed opportunity to not have done a real full length Ape Escape platformer as the MOVE flagship game where you swing around your net catching monkeys while platforming and exploring and fighting bosses, much in the way AE1 was the flagship for Analog control.

You mean they haven't already? And I can see the third ICO game doing the same to the developers hype from some people.

Also this dude sounds like a dick. I can understand his frustration and GAF's overreaction to his posting tone, but I also think his overreaction is way over the line and he needs to get his head checked a bit. Prohibiting her from having anyone in the house when he isn't there? Really?

I pick on Konami a lot, but my criticisms hold even more weight now. They had a lot more variety in the past until they became The Kojima Company. They missed out on the rhythm party explosion despite being on board early with those sorts of games. They had a good action game track record at least until the 16 bit era and gradually abandoned that genre just to see it dominate now.

Everyone calls them the Kojima company but that was more last gen.  When Kojima Productions started and announced:

-Metal Gear Ac!d
-Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
-Metal Gear Solid 3
-Ac!d 2
-MGS4
-Metal Gear Solid Motion Comics

This gen though, since MGS4 came out, what has Kojima Productions even done Metal Gear related?

-Peace Walker
-An outsourced HD port collection
-A 3DS Port
-A vaporware action game

...and this is over 4 yearspan now.

Konami has no money to even fund MGS this gen.  Let alone their other series like Castlevania, Contra, PES, Suikoden.

jeff replied after another very long view:

There was no Playstation 1, it was just called Playstation.  Playstation 2 supports 2D, Playstation 3 supports 3-D and Playstation 4 supports 4K media. Sony is a MEDIA company and the Playstation series has supported MEDIA with the PS2 supporting a DVD, PS3 supporting blu-ray 3-D and the PS4 4K blu-ray.

Xbox then Xbox 360 signifying a 360 view for first person (out of the eyes of the character you are playing or true 3D not 3-D.  Yes the numbers provably mean something for the Xbox and I'm speculating that they do for Sony as well.

At any rate, it's not the best selling PS3 game, and it's a hefty decline from GT4, which itself was a hefty decline from GT3.  The series is definitely losing its relevance.  The declines in NA and Japan have been particularly sharp.

Still doing ok in Yurop, the last Sony homeland.

Fuck, to be in that head.

People that think like him are usually finding "clues" that the Illuminati are working with the Jews and the Trilateral Commission to overthrow capitalism and create an NWO. It must suck to be involved in a conspiracy theory as lame as his.

I don't see why anyone cares what region the games come from. Both sides of the ocean are pumping out awesome games these days. This generation owns now.

i like my game to be weird and interessing and off-beat,western don't make games like that, they make boring functional games, rpg that rip off from D&D,shooting and sandbox games with the same military weapons over and over,a million different rendition of madden

japan is the one that make the game with giant radish monster in it

but nope i get the lame batman game with the generic thug with clown outfits :fbm

the last time i played a western game that was like that was in 2005,i'll let you guys guess which game i'm talking about :smug
