I get the impression that many people on GAF don't consider teen molestation a crime and feel minors should be able to give give consent. All those pedo threads bring out the defense force that tsk tsks over consent age laws and insinuates we're all prudez for wanting to protect so called children.
I don't necessarily get that impression. Well, I do sometimes, but not always. What I notice with a lot of the posts that come dangerously close to bordering on defending pedophilia is that there exists this contingency of people who do not think there's any need to draw lines when it comes to tolerating thought. I've seen it come up where there's this desire to pursue some sort intellectual high ground and be above everyone else. If progressive tolerance represents a more refined thought process ("my hillbilly neighbor hates other races/religions/other sexual orientations, but that's because he's uncultured, unlike me"), some people seem to take it to logical extremes.
"You see a guy sexually attracted to children, and are repulsed, but not me. I see someone who needs help. I can see that because I'm more awesome than you. It's not his fault he rolled for sexual preference, it came up snake eyes."
