When I say the word I never really am talking about people who are mentally handicapped. You can say whatever you'd like, but I find it offensive how it's so freely used in society.

I think we all as humans have largely just started to stop trying to understand the context behind each others opinions/use of poor language and have just started jumping on each other before that initial understanding/discovery is made. Not that it's never justifiable to take offensive to shockingly bad language, I just feel it's a bad trend to jump on people immediately without reasoning/dialogue/educating someone as to your viewpoint and absorbing theirs.

Not that a god damn rape analogy needs that level of discourse though :/

On a serious note, I try not to use distinguished mentally-challenged fellow but it slips a lot. I've been using it since I was kid, even if I never meant offense and sometimes bad habits are hard to break. I've never been fond of rape jokes, but then I like dead baby jokes. I use "gay" in sentences sometimes, but never really mean to offend gay people but that post really was gay, Spencer. Suicide jokes, depending on where you are and who you are, those can be funny. It's all in the delivery. I've been trying to lower my usage of cigarillo as well, but it's one of my favorite words. I mean just listen to it: cigarillo. Amazing.

You've never heard a "woman driver" joke in real life?  How old are you?  You know those jokes predate the internet by a good, like, eighty years, right?  They've certainly become less common as political correctness gained traction, but they're hardly a product of the internet.

What it really comes down to is that a lot of people want to make offensive jokes and laugh at offensive jokes, but reality doesn't find that acceptable anymore (which, y'know, is a *good* thing by and large).  But people still want to make em and laugh at em, and on the internet, there's little-to-no repercussions for doing so.  It's like the steam release valve for the little devil sitting on everyone's shoulder all day.

These jokes don't exist because of the internet or because of the personalities cultivated by the internet.  The internet just gives them a venue.

I'm 27 and nope, never heard them said by anyone I know in real life and it isn't like I run in circles comprised of effete handflappers.

oh god, yeah.  i did that accidentally once like a week after a guy's mom had died.  as i started to mouth the "ma" part of "mom" my brain was like "HOLY SHIT ABORT ABORT FFFFFFF" but it was too late.

The worst variation of this happened to me and a friend back in '98. SMS messaging was just introduced and people were going crazy txting each other. We were on a road trip with lots of friends and had to take two cars, and so we were messaging each other back and forth, mostly slinging the worst insult our teenage minds could come up with, FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

Me and my friend wanted to send "you motherfucker" to another friend in the other car (who's mom died a couple of weeks prior), but due to our *extremely* terrible English at the time (14 years ago, holy shit I'm old), we sent "fuck your mother." And before we could process what was going on, our friend in the other car pulled the car over and almost slugged us.

The thing about "woman driver" jokes is that they don't even have a referent in my head. For most misogynistic and/or racist tropes there is some nasty little corner of my mind that secretly either believes them or, more commonly, would like to believe them since it would make me feel more secure as a white dude, but I don't even know whereTF the woman driver thing even comes from, it is in the same category as Irish Catholic immigrants all conniving to subjugate the US to the Pope. Therefore if I made a "woman driver" joke I would not feel guilty as it would NECESSARILY be purely a meta-joke about the concept of "woman driver" jokes.   The NECESSARILY is important since with other tropes there's always the suspicion that it could be a conscious rationalization of grimier subconscious motives.

My mom got into four accidents in one year and being in the car with her driving feels like a near-death experience. My sister barely drives and is afraid of the freeway. My step-sister is halfblind yet still has a license and gets into yearly accidents.

For me, it's a family joke. Also, for years I still paid more car insurance them because I have a dick.

My mother is a pretty bad driver. She goes really fast on narrow, twisting country roads with limited visibility, often taking the racing line, probably not the best idea on two way roads. At the same time though, she's really slow on highways.
