Pitchfork has been fine for a lot of hip hop lately, I'm fine with it. Obviously they're on the trap wave but they've liked most of the rap albums I liked this year. In fact I'd say nearly every album in my hip hop top five got a good rating from them (good kid mad city, Reloaded, R.A.P. Music, etc)
The thing about Pitchfork is that they shit on most east coast stuff, and most stuff from older artists. They view things in a very trendy way - so for instance The Roots are old therefore who cares, but Chief Keef is hot and so is trap music so they give him a good rating. A lot of east coast/traditional hip hop is indeed stale, I can see why Pitchfork's Cali interns and writers aren't fucking with it. But just being something has a soul loop doesn't mean it's out of style and therefore wack.
