Voting with wallets and boycotting region-locked platforms, done by even the entire minority of people who would import games, would not make a measureable impact simply because that population is small. Consequently, the "protection" given by region-locking is negligible to the point of the practice doing nothing more than aggravating the most passionate customers whose purchases would otherwise increase.

Without the ability to protest economically, such a minority should and ought to be protected. The large majority of unaffected and mainstream consumers would continue to shop locally, while those interested in foreign digital media would be free to access it. Sales increase, everybody wins.

At one point I wanted to possibly help to create games and then I just said "fuck it" given how I was treated while I played them. If the player base is like that, I'm not about to deal with it in the workplace too. People want to pretend the industry is better but how many of the people who create the environments in which we feel marginalized become employed by companies too. No thanks. Props to the women who manage to carve out a niche but ultimately it seems like a pain in the ass.

Platformers, rpgs where you customize everything about yourself and your story (western rpgs are good at that), and games that allow customization in general ala Saints Row are the least sexist. Racing games aren't sexist either.
