I don't know. He seems to consistently be in at least a movie a year. Sometimes two. He seems to be doing fine career wise. Whether those are great movies or not is a separate question.

so awesome. The Rock is one of the few action stars today who wouldn't be out of place in an 80s action movie

His career has been steady and active.

But he was supposed to be the next Arnold.

Instead, he couldn't even surpass Jason Statham in the Action Movie Hierarchy.  :-\

Yea, sucks. He's not some great actor, but he has a shit ton of charisma - which is basically what Arnold and the other bad acting 80s guys had. I heard the action flick he did last year was really good.

Hell yeah.

I thought the movie was going to be about a rivalry between those two superstars, and Wahlberg and Ferrell.

and then

and I'm like, WTF?

Yeah, pretty much this. The Rock was the best thing to happen to the WWE in a while, and it seemed like his exit to film was with their good graces, and off to a decent start. Who knows what went wrong?

But even Statham should be like some kind of king-god of action movies, and he just can't seem to catch the right break.

Also, good god were the Transporter sequels utter, utter crap.

I saw that RAW.  It was the only good part of the show.

The sad thing here is that this was really just a typical Rock promo; it's just that everyone else in the company lacks the charisma that he and other attitude-era guys had that it stood out so much.

It was still an awesome segment and I totally marked out for it.  Especially when he trashed Cena.  :)  But I don't see why people are like "WWE IS BACK IMMA GET WRESTLEMANIA NOW!!!!"  The Rock isn't back; he's just the host of WM and won't wrestle, and if we're lucky we'll get one or two more TV appearances from him.  WWE wrasslin' still sucks; this changes nothing, unless they are finally going to ditch the distinguished mentally-challenged fellow PG shit, which I doubt.

its sad how his career ran out of fuel :( he had so much potential but he insisted on doing all those movies for kids

I thought I read somewhere that he said he was done with the kids movies and was going to be going back to PG-13/R-rated stuff now.

It's weird how things have gotten to the point that having Vince retire and Triple H/Stephanie take over is a GOOD idea now.

Also WWE, shut down your films division already, holy shit.   :lol

I'm hoping Universal wises up and has the Rock star with Arnold in the new Terminator film. The Rock has already worked with the proposed director, Fast Five's Justin Lin. Hopefully the stars will align and we'll see that made.

The internet has destroyed WWE more than they have destroyed themselves.

What made pro wrestling good during the late nineties was not only wrestlers like the Rock but the fact you didn't know what the hell was going to happen on either show. Both shows (Nitro and Raw) were at their heights some of the most unpredictable television shows of all time. Now there's too many people leaking what's going to happen.

It's doubtful that pro wrestling will ever regain a fraction of the fanbase that it once had. I will continue to buy the classic DVDs from the WWE Home Video library and remember the good old days, and smile when I see the Bret Harts or the Rocks come back and listen to the fans shit themselves remembering their heroes from the past.

I think wrestling lives and dies by its stars. And when the product has less interesting stars and characters and storylines, I tend to tune out.

The generation of wrestlers that came after the Rock and Stone Cold were just less interesting and less funny to me. So I stopped watching. But I was in the same boat before the Rock and Stone Cold came. Those guys were so good I felt I had to watch. Nobody in the current WWE generation of stars gives me that feeling.

Cena was interesting at first when he was a bit heelish but then his character and the way they used him got really boring. The WWE has been steering their product towards a younger (kids) and less hardcore product which has made me less interested in it.

And then the UFC replaced the WWE for me as a form of entertainment due to that.  Chael Sonnen represents a bigger heel to me than anybody currently in the WWE.

Yeah, NWO was so awesome.

Sigh, now I'm getting nostalgic.
Hogan turning heel at Bash at the Beach blew my 13 year old mind. That was just epic and something nobody would have even guessed.

Wrestling today has just gotten stale. There's no competition. TNA can not even compare to WWE as much as they would like to. WCW took the majority of WWF's top talent. WWF had no choice but to innovate and get creative. One would get good the other better. It was a great time to be a wrestling fan.

I really wish WWE (ugh i hate calling it that) kept WCW and had it be its own separate thing but owned by WWE. Now they act like it doesn't exist.

I was a WCW guy. WWF was amazing, but I was faithful to WCW to the very end despite its endless problems and WCW being bought out made me stop watching wrestling out of pure bitterness.

I really miss the competition between the two. I would flip the channels every Monday and EVERYONE be talking about it the next day.

WCW and WWF really complimented each other. WCW was for the great wrestling. You had the ultra athletic luchadores and the cruiser weight division. You had a lot of interesting divisions, like the TV division. WCW had inventive and outright silly shit, but it was really entertaining all the same. WWF however was more serious and adult in tone. It was so unpredictable what was going to happen each show. Every wrestling fan I talk to remembers that Japanese guy threatening to cut off Val Venis' cock, or the Undertaker burying Austin, or The Rock and Mankind rivalry.

When someone BIG like Jericho just suddenly appeared on Raw on Monday night it was HUGE because the competition was so even and balanced.

I guess it's time to get into UFC? Does it have rivalries and storylines?

Randy Orton is the worst.  Most people boo Orton not because they love to hate him, ala classic heels like Ric Flair.  The type of heat that Orton gets, is similar to X-Pac's, where people just want him off the air because he's so boring.

I remember how desperate WCW got at the end. Eric Bischoff (I believe it was Bischoff) came out during one of the last Nitros and spoiled the major title change of that night's WWF event which was pre-recorded.

IIRC, that wasn't the end...Bischoff was long gone by then.  It was in the beginning, when they were starting to beat the WWF's ass in the ratings.  Him doing that was AWESOME.   :lol

WCW was a failed brand in the end.  They don't want to associate that with their own brand name.  ECW also went down, but not for the same reasons as WCW, which is why they used the name for the new TV show a few years ago.  Of course the new ECW sucked and has since devolved into NXT.

I agree with you though...I'd rather have two "competing" brands like how RAW and Smackdown! used to be.  Too bad TNA sucks.

Quote

Rivalries, I'm sure, but storylines?  No dude, it's real.   :lol  The reason I generally don't watch MMA is because the fights go real quick and don't have the "drama" of fake wrasslin'.  But the other problem is that WWE has been shit for the last fews to the point that it's all pretty stale and boring now.  They really need to shake shit up, but we're just not going to see it until Vince steps down, and that could end up being another 10 years...or more.

I guess it's time to get into UFC? Does it have rivalries and storylines?

I'm going to reach through the Internet and beat your dopey ass with a stick for asking such distinguished mentally-challenged questions, himu.

So did you guys hear about the latest TNA wrestling PPV disaster?  In the...uh..."main event," Jeff Hardy stumbled out on stage, clearly coked up as hell, headed to the ring, and stumbled around some more until Eric Bischoff came out to change his match against Sting to a No-DQ match.  Apparently Hardy was so fucked up that the plan was to have a ton of run-ins to "salvage" the match, but Sting didn't want to get hurt, so he ended the match immediately...the whole thing was 90 seconds long.   :lol

You think MMA fights don't have the "drama" of wrestling? Are you serious?

There are guys in there who literally hate each other, trying to make the other guy their bitch. As you said, "it's real."

I mean the flow of the matches and storylines.  In MMA it's over like that...not the case in wrasslin.
