Final Fight came out in '89. Street Fighter II was '91.

Started off using the SFIV engine, but Seth said it has been changed so much that to call it a brand new one would be more accurate.

Looks like they tweaked the HUD a bit; the life bars are no longer that hideous orange to blue gradient.

I'm still finding the exaggerated gaudiness of it all to be a bit oppressive. THAT's the Tekken effect.

How're the gauges gonna work? Was there something being able to recharge them by holding buttons down or am I imagining things?

I'm so out of the loop when it comes to this game, but after watching that trailer it's definitely on my radar.

I'm not sure if they've really discussed meter management at length yet beyond the newest trailer. You do use meter for a LOT of stuff in this game: EX, switch canceling, super, and cross assault, so far. Seems as though the gauges in that particular video are set to refill for demonstration purposes, since they're refilling mid-combo.

In the older videos, it looks like it builds very similar to SSF4. I assume you'll still gain a pretty significant amount between your two characters over the span of a round, though; plenty to make use of all the stuff at your disposal.

Not sure if I posted this already, but I decided I'm gonna skip on this game. Aside from all the new frame data and combos and good stuff this game will be chock-full of, I'm really tired of the same ol' traditional 2D fighters. The fighting game market in general is primarily nostalgia fueled (I mean, come on, I feel stupid having to type that), and just because I can finally play Poison in a fighting game, it ain't worth my money to fund this ancient game design template.

Probably alone in this, but hey, just throwing that out there.

AE 2012 is 5th version of SF4 actually.

Nothing funny about it though. Fighting games are extremely complex - if revisions never happened, we would have never gotten some of the best games of all time. Plain and simple.

For the most part, revisions are desired and most of us are happy to buy them. The longevity of a well-made fighting game is worth the money.

If you're picking up a sense of resentment from the community regarding recent revisions, it's because MvC3 was a rushed product with a lot of broken elements right out of the gate that probably could've been fixed with some DLC, but was ignored in favor of another full disc release in less than a year; and because AE intentionally boogered up SSF4 with a lot of balance issues and would've significantly limited the game's long term appeal if it was left like that.

The only people not happy about AE 2012 are tier whores and Makoto players; and UMvC3 is a big update and ultimately a cost-effective solution for everyone.
