Well, at least you have to sacrifice your partner to activate Pandora, so thankfully there's some penalty for it. Still lame though.

The rest looks good.

Details regarding Pandora mode:

Quote
  • Press ↓↓MP+MK simultaneously when your vitality gauge is under 25% to activate Pandora. When you activate Pandora, your partner’s strength will increase exponentially.
  • The power of the character who calls upon Pandora is necessary to fuel the technique. By sacrificing their vitality to Pandora, their partner will be able to enter Pandora mode.
  • Pandora is a system with a built-in time limit. In Pandora mode, the Cross Gauge will be filled to maximum capacity, and you will be able to use EX and Super Arts infinitely. However, if you are not able to defeat your opponent within the time limit, you will automatically be knocked out. Be careful when you use this technique!

Time limit is apparently 10 game seconds (which probably translates to 13 - 15 actual seconds).  Seems like a very short amount of time for something that kills you when it expires, but that steep handicap is giving off some Phoenix vibes (bubububu she has like, no health!).

There's also a Gem system (those little black dots around the super gauge) that has yet to be announced.

The 10 second limit and lack of a partner?

I have faith that this won't be broken or MvC3 level fucked up.

Apparently the damage buff is pretty huge, too.  There's a clip on Eventhubs of Zangief piledriving Lili in Pandora mode for ~40%.  That's a regular SPD, and he has infinite access to super SPDs?  ... Yeah.

So with the Pandora system they're allowing everyone to turn into an XF Dark Pheonix, and with scramble and gems they're turning it into smash bros. This game is officially off the handle. It might end up being crazy fun, but they're pumping in too much crazy that brokenness is unavoidable at this point. Tournament potential is decreasing with every system they announce, imo.

It'll still make it of course, but I'm not sure how receptive high level players will be.

7 seconds. You guys can stop your whiny bitching now. This is nowhere near X-factor levels of bad. You better be sure that you know what you're doing if you plan on using this.

It being only 7 seconds only makes me more worried if that sort of extreme measure is required to make it balanced.  Again, Dark Phoenix vibes.

Honestly, I've never had an issue with XF. I went to gamestop the other month with my cousin. I hadn't played MvC3 in months but I saw teenager playing it. I picked up a controller, picked my team and slaughtered him.

He tried to use XF EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. All I had to do was block and hit him when he was open.

I really like XF, it made EVO really fucking interesting.

Im a MvC3 scrub that loses for far more pathetic reasons than some last minute DP X stuff. I think these things are mostly relevant for high level tournament play where someone knows how to capitalize on that 7 second window and be a complete dick about it.

Balance tends to effect mid-level players the most, really, especially now that all of this stuff is online.  It's a factor in tournament-level play, but the results of those matches aren't boiling down to specific character advantages.

The irritation with all of this stems from Capcom being seemingly reluctant to admit that they're putting some pretty fucked up shit in these games.  They can't seem to introduce a new system without taking it to the absolute EXTREME.  And then, of course, they release a revision to tone it down.

SFIV AE = broken

Nah.  Needs some character balancing, which it is getting.  People tend to say this after watching high-level players using Yun or Fei-Long, but if that's what you're going by, then clearly Seth and Viper are also god-tier.   :P

Quote
MvC3 = broken

Yup.  It's Marvel all right!  Maybe they will get it right with UMvC3.

Quote
SF x T = sure looks broken in theory

Too early to tell.  I don't see the people who have already played it whining about stuff, and unlike say, Dark Phoenix in MvC3, you're not able to get your health back and have all of 10 seconds to beat one or two characters.

Quote

None of these games are "casual friendly mainstream fighting games."  When I think that, I think UFC or Smash or something.

For all its flaws, SSF4 (and yes, even AE) is the single most balanced fighting game Capcom has ever produced, and one of the most balanced in the 2D fighting genre, period.  The game is most certainly not broken.

I wouldn't say MvC3 is broken, per se, either, it's just that the X-factor system puts too much emphasis on the last character and doesn't even require much effort from someone to blow up an entire team.  Dark Phoenix in level 3 X-factor is really fucked up, but the strategy still amounts to quite a lot of risk; she can be snapped in at any time and can't leave for a few seconds, during which time she can be mixed-up and will die on a touch without even using any meter to do so.  Best Friends (Wolverine + Akuma) is just really, really good.

I run Best Friends, though, so you know...  :P

The only REAL broken character in MvC3 is Phoenix in Dark Phoenix form.  The rest of the cast is broken to a degree that it balances out, by and large.

Don't see anything wrong with Pandora at the moment. It lasts only 10 seconds, you sacrifice your partner, and if you fail to beat your opponent in that time frame then you lose. It's much more risky than using X-Factor.

Kind of reminds me of the instakill from Guilty Gear.

In some SNK fighters you can spam super moves once your health gets below a certain level, but it's not a good strategy as it usually leaves you open for a counterattack.  It's more useful as a psych technique than anything else.

Apparently there's no modes of play without gems, which I think is pretty stupid if true.  People are worried this will fuck up the tourney scene and competitive play, but...why?  Just ban the use of gems at tournaments.

tekken x sf has potential to be cool. I'm kinda casual about my tekkening, but I like their aesthetic and they seem big on jugglin' which can be real fun. What I'm more tepid on with tekken though, is how movement and position is handled - usually it feels like both me and my opponent is jerking back and forth fishing for a whiff punish, but it feels much more obnoxious than SF even though that happens there too. idk, maybe I'm just a hater getting my hate on cus it's different.

I think some of those costumes are pretty good. I like:  Nina, Julia, Rufus, Dhalsim, Steve, Hugo, Poison, Yoshimitsu, Ibuki, Zangief, Lili. Don't really care for the rest, and I probably won't buy any of them anyway.
