For someone who didn't play Oblivion and was really bored by Morrowind's "practice picking locks for three days, it's REALISTIC!" gameplay do you dudes think I would like this? Every time there's an Elder Scrolls game I really want to enjoy it but every time it just ends up feeling like more of a chore than a game. :-/

I really don't think the core gameplay is going to be so different from past entries that you won't instantly realize that you're playing a Bethesda game. Seems like the big changes are implementing a sleek interface, cleaning up all those nasty bugs, improving the art by a metric ton, and tweaking the gameplay a bit. I certainly wouldn't expect the gameplay to be drastically different, but maybe I'll be proven wrong when reviews and impressions roll out.

The Leveling design seems less like a chore. You still level up based on skill usage but you don't have to worry about allocating attribute points based on the skills ruling attribute (which really contributed to the feel to grind for certain attributes). The game also includes a perk system that's meant to augment skills one pursues (so taking a cue from Fallout).

So I'd say Gamefly it or something.

I feel mostly the same. I liked the idea of Morrowind but it bored me silly. I liked Oblivion more because it was more accessible but the stupid level scaling and the sameness of it all stopped me from finishing that one too. I'm hoping Skyrim becomes the first one of their games outside the Fallout series that I actually finish.

I'm with you guys but I have faith in Bethesda after Fallout 3. If they take what they learned from that game I think Skyrim should be something special. I'm picking it up so I'll let you guys know how it is from the view of a non-Elder Scrolls fan. The media I've seen for it is REALLY good, though, so I don't get why I have such doubts.

What's the leveling system like in this one? Do enemies scale?

I don't know how it is exactly but from what I've read here and there is that it's like the past Elder Scrolls (Primary Skills usage is what allows you to gain levels) but the biggest change is that the Attributes has been brought down from 8 Attributes to 3 (Strength, Magicka and Stamina). You also have a whole bunch of perks to choose from that are tied to the skills you use the most. Also, supposedly, there are hybrid perks that utilize two skills that work together well (no examples comes to mind for this game but in Fallout 3/NV a purely unarmed and stealthy character got a great perk that raises sneak critical damage when unarmed).

From all the bullet points posted over the past few weeks the general sense I'm getting from Skryim is that its built to stand as its own game, lots of things were added. In Oblivion things were subtracted when placed against Morrowind and ultimately paled in comparison. Skryim feels like an upswing.

Console games often leak before PC games nowadays. The number of people who pirate on consoles is just much lower by comparison.

Sonic has come out already. Once Skyrim is released this thread will grow faster than a hardcore Sonic fan that just slipped inside his patched up Tails costume. Plus Sonic will bust its load quickly whereas Skyrim will be one long grind until completion.

man i've got to say i'm suddenly like super on board for this, it seems they really did re-Morrowind the series with this in terms of what's important; world design.

and the new animations and lack of ugly, atmosphere shattering talking interface reaaaaalllly bring the game out more. It just looks awesome talking like that

GTX 250 is slightly under the recommended card the GTX 260 so you should be good.

What race should I go with? It's been Red Guard and Bosmer for me. Redguard's have a combat focus, however. Would a Redguard make a good Assassin?

The combat looks fine to me. the only problem is that it's hard to tell when your attacks are working but this is consistent with wrpgs, namely action rpgs. They need to work on feedback. Add more enemy enemy animations for when they're successfully hit, and combat will improve.

Definitely. One account of a neat kill animation is running towards an enemy with a mace, weapon swing button held down (for a power swing) and the game took control and showed a death animation in the correct context.

if you install to hd, it overwrites the hd textures. if you play from disc you're good.

I've read that the first day patch will fix that bug. But if that's false I've also heard that by installing to the disk, clearing your cache and reinstalling will fix the issue. Fucking Bethesda, man.
