i love the dumb oblivion physics with the updated combat. i zapped a vampire master with a lightning bolt and he launched like a rocket up into the roof of the dungeon, with just his torso dangling from the ceilling.

So can you be a member of multiple groups? Like the Companions and the Dark Brotherhood?

I'm still trying to work out the stealth indicator, it's been changed slightly enough but enough that it confuses me.

Basically when the eye is open the enemy either knows exactly where you are or that you're in the area. Closed means completely hidden. There's the in between where you've been found but you hide. The enemy will keep looking for you but if you wait them out the eye will start to slowly close until its completely closed again.

Got it. The line was the thing that was confusing me. I thought I was only stealthed when the eye icon appeared (even partly) based on the previous games.

Let's talk about the seemingly random crap we've seen in the game that holds no value to the gameplay but adds to the game's world:

I was adventuring on the eastern portion of the map and encountered a hot spring. I found a hunter camp. No one was there, but I found portion of hunter clothes, armor and weapons upon the grass. I looked in the hot springs and the hunters were in their middle aged bikini briefs and tops just chillin' and getting some sun.

Amazing.

I found a house that had been crushed by a tree. Under the tree was a dead guy. His name? Lucky Lorenz.

have to say though - the characters are still really short on CHARACTER. Nobody so far is in any way memorable. One day Bioware and Bethesda will fuse into Biothesda and all will be right with the world.

I finished the Companions main quest line, it was pretty awesome.

I killed some more dragons too. This one, I was one top of this mountain and it was snowing really hard and I could barely see, and this snow wolf starts running toward me and so I draw my axe and then all of a sudden this dragon just slams down right in front of me out of nowhere. I was like OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG  :omg :omg Then he blasted the snow wolf with his frost breath and just completely annihilated him. :lol I'm a Nord though, cold don't bother me.

Riften is rancid dogshit so far, loaded with fedex quests that i have zero interest in, pretty sure the layout is directly lifted from bravil in oblivion.

The thieves guild is a joke, as soon as you walk through the gates you're hit over the head with it. And when you get down there (10 minutes later) you're met with a load of scowling tough guy distinguished mentally-challenged fellows wearing the official thieves guild uniform.  Full on bethesderp, think i'll move on from this town so it doesn't poison the rest of the game for me.

UK data

Quote
Modern Warfare 3's unassailable lead meant RPG Goliath Skyrim settled for a second-place debut. But what a second-place; Skyrim had the fifth biggest opening week of the year (after Modern Warfare 3, FIFA 12, Battlefield 3 and only just behind Gears of War 3). Also, Skyrim more than doubled the opening week tally of Fallout: New Vegas, making it Bethesda's fastest selling game ever.

Xbox 360 claimed a huge retail majority of Skyrim sales, with 59 per cent. Only 26 per cent of shop-bought Skyrim copies were on PS3, and 15 per cent were on PC (digital sales aren't counted).

The launch of two huge titles, plus a chart filled with numerous blockbusters, meant this week was the biggest ever for UK video games. Total take for the week was £120.8 million (you can see how much Modern Warfare 3 dominated).

Bethesda doesn't write good main characters, they make a whole bunch of cool ancillaries.  Mai'q the Liar, Jiub, Vivec, the ancient Dwarf, the Companions, what have you.   It'd be nice if they had someone good write the characters but LOL @ Bioware recs, they fucking suck so much, they are horrible writers in every way, have Beth do the world and Obsidian do the design and writing.

This game is going to head to head with Mario Galaxy and Saints Row 2 as game of the generation for me. I haven't even played Saints Row 3 yet and this year has been amazing. Batman, Ghost Trick, Dynasty Warriors 7 AND Gundam, Batman, Shadows of the Damned...what a damn FINE year.

Nailed it. Personally, as a stealth character, the thief missions are MADE for me and require me to play the full the extent of my play style. I dare you to find a Bioware game that even offers as much depth as the thief guild quests. Amazing.

I dunno guys, maybe i'll try them again with a new, entirely thief character and get out of the hulk smash mentality. But the missions i saw were completely distinguished mentally-challenged. take the chicks statue, break the jug, talk to the lizards ( didn't notice any dialogue checks)

next mission i broke into the house by swimming and jumping up some rocks, bypassed the 2 or 3 goons that just stood there in the hallways and saw the elf dude upstairs crouched down in the corner (i presume that was a bug). I quit at that point.

More hamburglers than thieves from what i saw. Do the thieves quests genuinely get better?

Where's the loot? I'm still using the same orcish mase and steel shield I got in the firsts dungeon. `8 hours in killed my first named dragon.

Go to Markarth. After some people get shived, walk around a bit and you'll find a guy asking about a house (he'll ask you about it). Do this quest line and you'll get a sick mace.

Thanks for the tip. I'm dumping a bunch into 1 handed weapons. It's over 40 right now and I think I'm just going with that til I get the thingy that lets you use a 360 pad on the PC. There is no functional way to dual wield with a mouse and KB.

Whoever mentioned Fallout was right. The game has a heavy fallout design vibe in it. It also streamlined a lot of the stuff that baffled me in prior games. (Surprised I haven't seen more bitching about that from the usual sources.)

Just when I think I can't be impressed anymore by Skyrim's locations, it throws me for a loop. I finally rolled into Farkath and it just blows me away, the coolest city I've seen so far by a huge margin. Reminds me of the dwarven city from The Witcher 2, very similar in style and feel.

Skyrim is amazing. This is why.

I was running to a quest in the snowy tundra when I saw a distant lighthouse with the lights on. I decided to run to it and check it out as it was the only thing in the area and the lights where on so I figured someone would be home. I enterred and upon entrance I notice a dead girl on the floor with blood roaming around everywheres. A quest pops up saying "find out who is behind the murders". I tried following the arrow but it brought me to a dead end when I decided to explore. I checked out the bodies using my detective skills I learned from this years earlier hit LA NOIRE and noticed the young female was clenched in a arms up position, possibly trying to escape from the suspect. I follow the trail of blood which lead to a desk in her room. On the desk was two notes. I looked at one and it said her brother had gone downstairs to check out a bug problem. Next to it was a bloody note talking about how her brother had made a key to the basement from her moms key and hid it in her moms favorite keepsake.

This makes me investigate the rest of the house and find the mothers room, also entrailed with blood. I eventually work my way over to her bedside and see a drawer slightly ajar. I open the drawer and inside is a note that states that the family had just recently purchased the lighthouse after the previous owners had dissapeared, and that the mothers favorite keepsake was a Urn she kept above the fireplace. Detective Cole Phelps had taught me that I could use my intuition to connect the dots. Obviously the brother had hidden the key to the basement in the urn! I go to the urn and open it up. Inside is the key to the basement. I figure the perpetraitor was hiding down there, perhaps with the murder weapon. I decide to investigate.

I slowly descend the stairs and notice some more dead bodies. As I get deeper into the basement I am alarmed by two huge Clavicle bugs, guarding a entrance to a underground cave system. I make work of the Clavicles and think they might be the murder suspects but Detective Phelps had taught me that not everything is as it seems on the tin. I decide to investigate the hole, arresting more bugs and investigating. Eventually I come into a room wherein I am alarmed by the sudden influx of mutants! Was this family harboring secret mutants? I'm not sure. I apprehend these felons and use my investigative techniques to learn that the rabbit hole goes far more deeper. I decide to explore the underground cave complex some more.

I keep venturing further and further for about a hours worth, seeing the dead corpses of the prior owners family mutilated one by one. I investigate each one more which reveals the history behind this innocuous light house. The bugs keep me crawling further in, collecting more evidence to press against my investigation sequence. Eventually I get to the end of the tunnel hole and I see the murder suspect. It is a giant queen Clavicle bug! I try to fight it, using the techniques Cole taught me but I am failing miserably. I decide to resort to the black magic arts to try and solve this mystery once and for all. I decide to summon a Ice Guardian from the gates of Oblivion and a Nethereal Bow that could slay the beast. I kill it along with the ice demon and investigate the carcass. Inside is the head of the original owner, and a key to a chest. Knowing I solved the murder but not the whole story I decide to return to the ground level and investigate some more.

This leads me to a hidden door that is locked. I had some extra lockpins in my pocket, ones I keep just in case. I decide to try my luck. On the first try I open the door, which leads upwards towards the lighthouses fire. Upstairs I find a view over the snowy vast landscape of Skyrim, and a large treasure chest near the edge of the lighthouse. I open it up, being careful as I remember Cole Phelps had been in his investigations. Inside I was shocked to find what was inside. I found a Orcish Magical Sword, which had indicated that this lighthouse was actually a ancient burial ground that the Orcs had used before all the prior owners to summon mutants and rule the world with bugs! I had found the corridoor to the bug empire and solved the case for all. It was a great feeling. I look around my surroundings and decide that although the war was won, the horror I experienced inside the light house was too much. I look off the edge of the lighthouse and decide that I would rather jump off to a quick escape and to get away from the horrors. I decide to play it safe like Phelps and pressed F4 to do a Quick Save. I lept to my honor and my horse...

Quick Save is F5.

I hadn't saved in two hours.

from two sittings though.  i can't play it anymore, to be honest, i have homework and stuff to do.

but even in real life, all i can think of is skyrim.  i was at a party drunk as a skunk? Skyrim.  getting head from a girl later that night? Skyrim.  taking bus back home? Skyrim. playing Skyrim? Skyrim.

it's ridiculous, i love this game
