Alright, I'm going to go against the crowd. I'm not feeling this game.
I'm an hour or two in and I like the sense of humor and the over-the-top bits, and the radio stations, even the driving is solid, but the core gameplay bores me to death. The combat is just holy crap bad. There's no sense of weight for the weapons, the physics are floaty, no hit satisfaction on the shots, there isn't even a cover system (wtf), you just walk around shooting at people like cardboard and they float away. On top of that the game relies on waves and waves of enemy respawns to artificially lengthen the combat scenarios so they just keep coming and coming.
There also doesn't seem much to really do in the city. More than GTA? Sure. But it's like drive around, do a few side activities, buy some property, ok do a mission, intro to mission is funny, meat of mission is C- TPS, mission over, repeat whole game. Just seems kind of boring. It's weird because these guys do Red Faction and the combat in Guerrilla is SO much more satisfying. The weapons there feel good and smashing stuff into pieces is awesome. But this is some of the most unsatisfying combat I've played in a non-shareware game and at the end of the day the game is about shooting people unfortunately. I don't really understand how this game has worse combat than practically every sandbox TPS I've played this gen. Crackdown, Infamous, Mafia, RFG, Just Cause, etc... the combat in those games is fun and way crazier! And it's always entertaining to get into firefights. I'm having no fun in combat so far and just kind of zzz-ing through it to get to the next cutscene.
Not feeling it.
