That's a pretty good dub job apart from Hank-- the voice actor is on point and delivers the lines great...but he doesn't sound remotely like him and from what I can tell, doesn't even have a hint of a country accent.

The only one I found reasonable as an approximation of the character was Cotton. Bill, perhaps, but there's a very small sample size there. "Can speak professionally" is a low bar for one of the great American slice of life animes.

Also, I came to post that I wish somebody would redub the goat Fist of the North Star. I think only the first 20 or so episodes were ever actually even dubbed at all.

Robotech is actually 3 different series put together: Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada. Carl Macek mainly wanted Macross, but there weren't enough episodes for syndication. As for the changes, Part 1 [Macross] is pretty much the same except for some edits here and there [mostly for content, though what was cut eventually got added back for later home video releases]. Parts 2 and 3 [Southern Cross and Mospeada] are changed quite a bit since the story needed to be altered to appear as if they're taking place in the same universe/storyline.

Like Rumbler said, SDF is part 1 of Robotech and it's pretty much SDF with edits (name changes, like Hikaru is changed to Rick, Misa to Lisa). But the show is pretty much the same with some changes here and there. Then the fuckery begins. Part 2 is Southern Cross, a completely different tv series and continuity from SDF. They have the show star Hikaru/Rick and Misa/Lisa's daughter and try to connect a completely unrelated series' story to Macross. It's basically fan fiction. Robotech part 1 is worth watching as it's just Macross with different names and a few other changes I'm forgetting but the rest is the definition of fuckery.

I'm a big fan of Robotech (part 1 of course) but loyalty ultimately comes down to SDF. I wish I could support Macross officially.

We've gotten some good games too, some of which are Robotech related.

I really liked this game when it came out. Great fanservice game for a Macross fan.

Robotech music!

I grew up with Robotech so I have a preference to it over Macross but I understand how its a very odd and weird thing to exist, especially if you were involved in the creative side of Macross.

I watched all of Dr Stone and Vinland Saga that is available.

Dr Stone is cool although Vinland Saga is the real one that captured me. I love the animation. And the slow pacing of it. Really good stuff. Made me want to read the manga.

Macross 30 on the PS3 is infinitely better, though. Open-world air combat/action RPG developed by Artdink.

Fun fact: That was released digitally on PS3 only for people who bought the super expensive Limited Edition Blu-ray release of Do You Remember Love? back in the day as a download. It was never made available any other way.

The Sega AM2 (Aerodancing team) developed SDF Macross game on the PS2 was also awesome. What an amazing console generation, when Bandai got them to make a Macross game and the Ace Combat team made a Gundam game.

I like the mix of FUCK EVERYONE IS DYING with silly schoolyard antics, it makes Sousuke so much more endearing and makes his and Chidori's fight for their friends mean more to me

I rewatched FMP and then finished the story with the manga. It goes even further toward ultra-serious silliness later on (original FMP has the best balance) and I could never care about the ultimate threat of the series. I think I would have enjoyed it more back when I first watched it. Parts of it I liked a lot though.

Watched a few eps of Your Lie in April since I'm on a piano kick and, I wanted to like it but pretty sure I don't. Too much manic pixie dream girl and modern anime-isms.

Got to ep6 and manic pixie dream girl character says something like "Wow I knew swimming would be fun!" Which immediately set off some

alarms.

So I skipped ahead to the end yup, they pull a whole "Bridge to Terabithia" thing and it's supposed to make the show seem deep (cause true art is sad, not happy) but it just doesn't really work...

The main girl's deal is she never says she loves the MC until after she dies... only telling him in letter form. #cucked

This biggest suspension breaker is when it's revealed she's loved him since both of them were 5 years old, and she saw him at a recital... however she never made contact with him during her childhood, and instead concocts this grand scheme when she's a teenager to """"""casually"""""" run into him.

The eponymous "lie" is that manic pixie girl "like liked" MC's best friend, not him, just so she could be MC-adjacent.

Like... what...

And then you throw this girl's overabundant personality (frequently coming off as pushy and bratty, you know, in between scenes where she's a virtuoso-level 14-year old violinist) and it just does not make sense. I can understand why someone portrayed like, say, Hinata, has issues getting close to her love interest throughout childhood. But this girl? There could just as easily been a scene when they were five where she's like "I decided, you're marrying me when we're grown ups!!" She's far more like Chichi than Hinata.

The MC also frequently annoyed me in similar but worse way that Haru on Free! does. But my complaints of him just amount to the type of melodrama and self-seriousness plaguing almost any modern anime. Dude is 14 but acts talks and acts like a 35-year old. C'mon.
