Some thoughts on the new shows this season:
Fire Force - Interesting story concept [spontaneous human combustion is a very serious problem] paired with some really nice animation. The characters are fun enough, though they're not too different from what you'll find in most shounen series. Ep. 3 was postponed after the KyoAni fire, no word yet on when it'll start back up.
Vinland Saga - We're in the era of Vikings being cool but this series is about real Vikings, none of that fantasy nonsense. This is another series with some really good animation, but it doesn't let the action overwhelm its characters. Also, war is pretty not cool.
How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift? - You got fanservice and you got weight training information. Look, you already know whether you want to watch this show are not, you don't need me to convince you.
Mom Isekai - First episode was amusing, second episode laid the fanservice on thick. Yeet that into the trash and move on.
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files - A spinoff of the large and unwieldy Fate franchise, with a focus on mystery solving rather than epic magic fights. I haven't watched much of the Fate series, though I am aware of the basics, but this is a pretty fun show to watch on its own merits.
Astra Lost in Space - A group of high school kids on an outing to another planet get sucked into a miniature wormhole and spit out into space many lightyears from Earth. Survival against long odds in unfamiliar environments and learning to work together are the big focus here, though it's got enough humor to get things from getting too serious. Well, at least initially...
Wasteful Days of High School Girls - A band of lovable [?] goofs get involved in various high school hijinks. Somewhat reminiscent of Asobi Asobase from a few seasons ago, but doesn't quite have the same bite. The OP is a real slapper, though.
O Maidens in Your Savage Season - Another band of lovable goofs, but since this one's written by Mari Okada it's focused specifically on budding teenage sexuality and the associated stew of emotions. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's extreme cringe [in a good way]. Early highlight: The main character accidentally walks in on her childhood friend masturbating to train groper porn.
To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts The North won the Civil War thanks to a brigade of soldiers who could turn into the monsters, however they all suffered from a condition that caused them to be unable to transform back into humans over time. Once the war is over, the monsters become less war heroes and more unwanted hazards. There's a metaphor in here somewhere.
Are You Lost - Four high school girls are lost on a deserted island, except one of them is literally Bear Grylls, right down to drinking pee and eating weird stuff.
Cop Craft - Police procedural mixed with fantasy world shenanigans. In the anime world this generally doesn't work at all, but since it's written by the creator of Full Metal Panic! it actually ends up working pretty well.
Haven't watched Dr. Stone yet, but I want to.
