Yo, older peeps. Was Taco Bell R&D always this way? When I was a kid in the 90s they seemed kinda like a normal and bland place with mediocre tacos. I feel like somewhere in the 00's they got some new crazy leadership and turned into the weird thing they are today.

IIRC they introduced a lot of products in the 90s, some of which are now staples (like the chalupa, nacho supreme, etc). But overall they seem a lot more aggressive now, from the Dorito stuff to a breakfast menu. But I think you could argue Burger King, Subway, and some others have also been quite aggressive too, the difference is that Taco Bell is...better. It doesn't really feel like fast food to me; it's not all greasy, tastes pretty good, and I don't feel bad after I eat it. I can get a couple items off the Wendys dollar menu and still feel bleh.

Yeah, in the past they weren't nearly as inventive, but that's across the board in fast food these days I feel. Taco Bell just happens to be at the forefront of the revolution.
