I think some custom ati card makes perfect sense. Ms prob went to them pointing at some card saying we want this shit, when will it be ready with this heat/wattage size.

Or ati jus showed them what they are cooking and ms bought some exclusivity for a while on one of the cards.


That leaves the hdd. Would love some small ssd, but that aint gonna happen eh. 64gb ssd with an upgrade slot for a custom ms hdd if you need more space sold seperately...

Hope that next gen will bring something more then just great graphics, i like how this gen made online gaming a normal thing on consoles. Sony employees went silent whenever I asked about the PlayStation 4, but they showed a lot of technology that seems likely to be in the console, or at least complement the new hardware.

One of them accidentally mentioned to me a 4K video player that will be revealed later this year. My guess is that the PS4 will have this capability, similar to the way the PS3 arrived at the dawn of the Blu-ray era with a Blu-ray drive inside.

On the plane ride home, I sat near a Microsoft employee who works on planning new Xbox products. When I floated my idea about the PS4 piggybacking on the move toward 4K TVs, he said he wasn’t that enthused about 4K TVs.

The Xbox guy was more excited about video-streaming hardware components shown by Broadcom and others. Using the new 802.11ac flavor of Wi-Fi, Broadcom’s new chips can stream content at up to 867 megabits per second. Broadcom refers to this fast wireless as “5G” technology.

I didn’t make it to Broadcom’s booth, but the company was showing how this hardware can connect four tablets to a TV set.

All four could simultaneously stream content, enabling them to be used for multiplayer gaming.

I don't see how they can have a 4k player and still have it priced at a reasonable price. But Sony's always looking for ways to push technolgy (seemingly to the detriment of sales), so it wouldn't surprise me if they did it again.

It will certainly be more expensive than current models but i think the tech is there already.No need for some alien solutions.

I guess 4K is a natural progression of TVs.If industry can get them to reasonable prices they can just discontinue current models.

Is it that much extra cost? doesn't sound like it'd be anything more than a bullet point since there's no 4K content.  but then again, the PS3 supports 3D 1080p blu-ray playback and I don't think that existed in 2006. 

No chance games will support that resolution, unless we're talking PS2 4K releases, because we all know that's coming.

BTW, HDMI 2.0 won't be out till later this year so we ain't getting 60fps 4K in next gen consoles as they will probably use 1.4.

Edit: TV makers are more into SMART TVs now, you know, TVs with apps like Youtube and Facebook. Another fud till this 4K arrives in full force.

Sony, Samsung, and LG didn't mention 3D at all during their CES keynotes. On the other hand, those that came out supporting 4K:
