i am not singling out MS at all, i know sony's got their own thing brewing, and they can suck it too
most of the time i sold the games i was done with on ebay (before ebay became the draconian moneygrubbing anti-seller shitpit it is now), and would put that money towards new games
i bought a fuckton of new games that way, before business shit the bed
i never traded used for used at gamestop or anything (i still only trade when there's a bonus %), pretty much only towards new games, so console publishers always saw money from me in some straight or roundabout form
now they're all evidently working hard to eliminate that particular outlet, and in turn are eliminating that source of income (meager as it may have been), so they're going from getting a little to getting none, because i seriously doubt everyone's just gonna cave in and buy into a system where it's $60 straight cash per game with no chance of recouping any of that, and i think the people who won't buy into it (families, kids, poors like me) vastly outnumber the message board guys who buy everything
no one gives a shit that they can't trade in or sell their iOS/Android/Steam games, because those games are so cheap individually and no one pays any real attention to the cumulative amount
but you tell mom and dad they can't trade in the kids' old games to buy them new ones, you tell them once that $60 leaves their hands it's gone forever and the kids can't even take it over to their friends' homes to play on their PS4s or XboxNexts or whatever, what do you think mom and dad are gonna do? they're sure as shit not gonna cave in, they work on a budget and they can't afford to laugh it off and say "haha, guess they got us by the short hairs, madge!" no, they're gonna say "fuck video games, these kids are just gonna have to find a cheaper hobby." all the kid tears in the world don't make endless dollars magically appear in bank accounts.
