I take it this is from a Media Create thread? That's not surprising given the last kind of sort of not really notable game it received was that Gust waifu in the kitchen thing.

Actually, judging by the drop in sales from the first to the second, Dissidia probably wouldn't do much for the Vita.  And Type Zero was a bit of a fail in terms of sales, so I think that's the wrong tree to bark up as well.  If we're looking at what really worked for the PSP, we're again back around to Monster Hunter.  I guess it might be worth seeing if something like Crisis Core could strike twice as well, but I have a feeling the returns would be greatly diminished on that as well.  Throw in a Metal Gear and a Kingdom Hearts and that's pretty much the top 10 PSP sellers in Japan covered.

Dissidia 012 was hurt by the fact many felt it was an expansion and not a true sequel. I don't believe any sequel has the ability to sell 1 million copies in Japan like the original (+budget and re-releases), but I'd expect higher results than 012.

From what Nomura said it sounds like if Vita were to ever get a KH, it's going to be a port. Same goes with KojiPro as Vita supports Fox Engine and that transfarring bullshit.

So why doesn't Sony pay Capcom for MH on Vita? Because Nintendo paid more? Or is there some bad blood between the two?

There are only two current platforms Capcom has never made an exclusive for. Both just happen to be Sony platforms. Take from that what you will.

What a trainwreck.

Quote
Schilling: Investor for Reckoning sequel pulled out over “devastating” comments made by RI governor
Curt Schilling has told The Providence Journal he could end up losing $50 million of his own money due to his studio’s failure, furthermore claiming comments Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee made regarding the firm were “devastating,” and “scared offSchilling said he invested $50 million of his person fortune into the studio, and $50 million of a planned $75 million loan which was co-signed by Rhode Island was thrown into development Project Copernicus – confirming comments made by a source close to the matter yesterday.

Schilling also confirmed yesterday’s rumor that a sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was in the works with a private investor on board for it. However, due to the governor’s comments, the investor dropped out of the deal, taking its $35 million with it.

He also told the paper that state economic-development officials “reneged on a deal to approve film tax credits,” which he said 38 Studios was legally entitled to which would allow the firm to defer the $1.12-million payment due the state on May 1. Because of this, the studio was unable to pay its employees and ended up laying off 291 employees in Rhode Island and 100 others in its Maryland office.

So far the winner is Mercury Meltdown Revolution on the Wii.

K, yeah, just checked all the likely candidates, and it's Mercury Meltdown Revolution on the Wii by a country mile.  Second is the Metal Slug Anthology on the Wii, and third is Muramasa.

So Wii was nice to a niche publisher after all, huh.

Is Klonoa Wii under 15k in the US?

Can't believe how much Vita has flopped so far. Sony should do something about it.

A $100 procedrop AT LEAST

And I also can't believe how shitty vintage hardware such as the 3DS has become a success. People are such distinguished mentally-challenged fellows for not waiting for the revision. The current 3DS is a total mess.

Capcom has said some crazy cray shit regarding Dragon's Bomba. Given they devoted a huge chunk of Capcom's internal staff on the project for years I'm guessing it wasn't cheap. That said, I believe they should be able to make their modest predictions for the game (which I believed was like 1.5 million worldwide), whether or not they make money off that is a different story.

Erm, that's an outstanding debut for Dragon's Dogma.  The only fully new IPs that have passed that in taco-chan's (estimated at 12 years) lifetime have been DMC and Onimusha.  The high fives at Capcom must be palpable today.

I did not say the Japanese figures were bad. I said this game's likely very expensive, and at this point it's very likely it will surpass Capcom's WW expectations. I was questioning whether or not they'd be able to make money on the project with those expectations. Of course maybe I shouldn't be questioning something that is never going to be public knowledge.

Though the Ultimate Fighting Franchise games appeared to be one of THQ's few successes, the company says it sold the brand's exclusive license to Electronic Arts because it failed to break even on the latest release.

THQ management told Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter that UFC Undisputed 3, which released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation in February, fell short of hitting its break-even point of 2 million copies sold.

That was in spite of UFC Undisputed 3 becoming the third biggest-selling game in the U.S. in February, and THQ previously noting the title received better-than-expected sales. The series' second most recent release, UFC Undisputed 2010, also underperformed.

After holding the exclusive license to publish UFC games for several years, THQ sold the contract to EA recently -- the transfer resulted in an unspecified number of layoffs at THQ's San Diego studio, which worked on the franchise.

THQ will focus now on breaking even on a title-by-title basis by releasing low-cost triple-A titles, such as Obsidian Entertainment's South Park: The Stick of Truth, which will release next March.

South Park requires a relatively smaller investment than other titles due to its simple animation. That project's break-even point is also 2 million units, though the publisher believes it can sell well above that, THQ told Pachter.

THQ also intends to enter the free-to-play market and make it a significant portion of the company's business in the future, particularly with the next generation of home consoles.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm but in case it isn't I'll humour you.

1.) RPG's outside of bioware and bethesda generally don't sell.
2.) I honestly don't think South Park is a mega franchise at this point in its history. This isn't 10 years ago.
3.) Obsidian is not a "premiere" developer in any sense of that word imo but whatever.

It's one thing to be interested in the game. Which is separate from sales stuff.

The Futurama game was ball breakingly hard at points. But as Joe says the best part was watching the cutscenes together as a new episode.

I think the South Park game will do ok, as stated above it's not 10 years ago when it was at it's peak (popularity wise).

I think South Park can break 2 million units if it is "South Park" enough.  Not like those shitty N64 era games.  It needs to look and feel like an episode of South Park, except you're controlling the characters.

For what its worth, it is based off of one of the most popular episodes in the series, which is a plus.  In the era of cheap nostalgia of things just a few years old, I think that whether the show is at its peak popularity or not won't matter.

I don't care what it sells: I'm going to get it, probably day one.  It was one of the few E3 games that I actually gave a shit about.

 :lol

Was there ever any official announcement that the San Diego studio was working on UFC, or was this cancellation the first the public had heard of it?

Wasn't San Diego the WWE All-Stars team? They came from Midway after working on the TNA game.

Yeah, that was them. I just never saw anything official in the news that said anything about San Diego working on it and, by implication, Yuke's not-working-on-it.

Just to put things in perspective, the generally well-received Simpsons Movie game failed to break 500k in NA on 360/PS3 combined.

Bu bu what about Simpsons Hit 'n Run?

THQ is so fucked. I guess Jason Rubin just wants to go down with a sinking ship.

I like how even though they admit UFC sold better than expected, it failed to meet expectations.
