As a former Segafag and Dreamcast evangelist, these numbers are pretty sobering. I was at Blast City when the Dreamcast was out and remembered all of the talk about how super successful the system was until its surprise and sudden cancellation. In hindsight, it was a huge fucking failure.

Those numbers in isolation is kind of a weird metric of success, it excludes the two other big regions and we have no idea what kind of budgets DC games were made on. Also was the hardware side profitable for them? I always figured the hardware side is what killed SEGA (assumed they went razorblade). I was way too young to be into the sales side then. I own(ed) 4 dreamcasts, 2 Saturns, 4/5 Mega Drives, 1 Sega CD, 1 32 X, 1 Master System and 1 Game Gear so I was pretty far gone up until it came crashing down

If I recall correctly, the Japan launch had all kinds of problems and then it kind of limped along. I don't know how it went for Europe and Australia but I doubt it did gangbusters. The US sales in that thread are a decent window to how the Dreamcast really did. With those software sales, I found it surprising that third parties cared to make an effort at all. Funny but at the time, we were all pissed that EA, Konami, Square, and Enix weren't putting anything out for the system.

I remember that one of the Media Create threads had a complete list of Dreamcast sales. From what I can recall the software sales there weren't that hot either, except for a few notable exceptions like Seaman.

Going through that DC list brings back memories though, so many forgotten games. There are also some decent sellers that I wouldn't expect, like the fishing games and and most of the shit Infogrames put out. Also really shows you how big the WWF was at that time, the DC wrestling games were pretty mediocre but still sold fairly well.

But don't get all whiny on me now Sony fans, I'm well aware that the PS2 will hold the mainstream market and sell a lot of systems. The thing is, that now when we get people saying that crap about the PS2 being so much better looking, blah blah. We can actually compare stuff on each system, heh. And then yep.. The DC can speak for itself and they can just stop all the BS claims about the PS2.

I had no idea Crazy Taxi almost sold a million copies in the US. That's kinda neat. Bummer that Grandia II outsold Skies, though.

I picked mine up from Target or something for $100 new with three games. This was a while ago. Same with my DSi XL. I'm sure retailers will have sales to get rid of the stock. At one point Gameboy Micros were like $35 at Walmart.

Inversion's a cover based third person shooter with some gravity mechanics for PS3/360. Based on the reviews it seems the game doesn't live up to the potential of its concept.

I'm surprised this game wasn't canceled. It's the last hold out from Scamco's attempt to make games to target a Western audience and no one gives a shit. The game was supposed to be out years ago so who know what's up.

I saw NPD came out and the numbers are

Dragon's Dogma was a nuclear bomb, max payne didn't seem to do well, and hardware are low across the board with Vita about 56k at most.

The only winner seemed to be Diablo 3 since it was number one on the list.
