thoughts on this video series plz
Difficulty: I would agree with that video. D3 feels so much like WoW in various areas, which makes the boring bosses and middling difficulty even more disappointing considering those are WoW's strongest aspects. As you go from each difficulty level it just feels like enemies and bosses are having their HP and damage increased; having seen this design strategy in later WoW raids before, everyone might as well get ready for Hell/Inferno to be nerfed once Blizzard gets some completion statistics.
I can understand and accept a few tank n spank miniboss fights, but I would have liked to see the big fights (The Butcher, Azmodan, etc) add new mechanics. Perhaps more importantly, I'd like to see less forgiving mechanics. Instead of just increasing boss HP, why not decrease the time you have to move out of an aoe or attack path, or increase stun timings. What if the Butcher spawned a champion/elite add every time someone stood in fire for more than a couple seconds? Basically: punish people for being bad.
Itemization: Very WoWy as well, with little customization. I'm basically playing my Barbarian like I'd play a protection/arms warrior: stack vitality (stamina) and strength. It would be cool if other main stats could mean a little something for different classes. For instance, INT increases the amount of health you gain from health globes but it's also important to Wizard dps. So for me, a piece that has some INT isn't totally wasted, but I wouldn't specifically look for INT pieces or gems. But what if some gems gave you two attributes instead of one? A survival character might be able to stack a vitality+int gem for instance
Story: The story is lol worthy...but does anyone play hack n slash games for the story? That's kind of like watching porn for story bros. But just as porn can have a minor story arc that gets me excited (say...cheerleader stuff), D3 excites me with the journal storytelling thingie. I like going through a dungeon while hearing some lore about the monsters, location, etc. I don't care for the overall story but these minor things work to enhance the already awesome atmosphere of the game
