Fair or not, the viewpoint of the AH as a blizzard cash cow is always going to persist until useful items drop more frequently or can be more reliably crafted.  The increased dps on ilv 61+62 weapons is a good first step, but I'd really, really like to see more info on tightening up the rng nature of loot drops or maybe something along the lines of burning gems to guarantee items get attributes in crafting.  If I could feed the blacksmith a high level topaz to guarantee +150 or whatever INT on a wand that would be dope.

I'm more concerned with armor; seems like you can get through a lot of the game slowly improving your dps and do fine, whereas each act heavily increases the armor/defense requirements.

I'd be fine with nearly every elite/champion ability being left in if gear dropped that allowed me to deal with that shit. Obviously if I'm standing in bad shit, I should die. But getting pummeled by regular damage just to force me to use the AH is stupid design.

Male Monk

1st time it crashed was after I found Cain in act 1. 2nd time was right after I killed the skeleton king and was using the portal to head back to town. 3rd time was in act 2 but I can't remember the specific part.

The game just goes to a black screen. Sound still goes for a little bit then stops. It locks up my whole computer. I can't alt-tab out and ctrl-alt-del does nothing. Have to hit the reset button on my comp..

Another sign of good things to come (1.0.4 is supposed to hit the 4th week of August)

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/6923457/104_Legendary_Item_Improvements-8_14_2012

Even a video this time around!

Looks awesome; Legendary stats are all increased and each item seems more singular and cool now.  Glad I have a set of MF gear to farm Act 1 with :D

In my opinion tho, the most gratifying part of his entry was a point blank admission that "yeah, we fucked this part of the game up and now we're addressing it"

With the MF gear I have now, I don't have to toss it on in Act 1 right before something dies; my stats are good enough that I can still make it through the act in single player just fine with over 200% MF before NV buff.  They're not going to nerf MF like that, just people who toss stuff on right before something dies.

Holy crap, I'm actually excited.  Not particularly because of the Legendary upgrades, but because Blizzard is actually addressing the game's problems.  Now they just need to fix the godawful drop rates, somehow give the illusion of progress when you hit the level cap and add endgame content and I'll be pretty happy.

They've kinda addressed drop rates in the systems preview blog.  ilv 61+62 weapons can now roll damage up to level 63 items, 2-handers have access to newer, more powerful affixes to offset the loss of an off-hand item, and normal monsters are more likely to drop magic/rare items by a factor of four.

I noticed this quite a bit when I started a new game the other day. I got a real nice rare axe about a half hour into the game that I used for most of act 1. Prior to that patch, I didn't start seeing rare items until after the skeleton king.

These effects haven't been patched into the game yet... patch 1.0.4 won't be released until the last week of August at the earliest, so whatever you're experiencing now is just more randomness.  Also, don't know if you're on Inferno yet or not, but pretty much everything discussed is in relation to Inferno.

I like the idea of adding more build diversity. Right now I'm kind of baffled by people posting their profiles/bragging about builds when it seems like most people are using the same handful of builds. And I still wish you could get attribute points or something to add more diversity

Like in my case, I always used Frenzy because it was clearly the best primary attack; it's like your bread and butter.

In general though I'm weird with damage. I like tanking/damage sponges so much I often don't pay attention to dps in games like this. I'd imagine most people like doing as much dps as possible

I can't imagine not using Frenzy still, even with the increases to Cleave and Bash I can't see myself using them. Bash is just too slow.

I like that they're buffing Hammer of the Ancients, which I used up until Inferno.

Take note, fellow members of House Gryffinbore!  Wizard notes are up.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/6939564/Patch_104_Preview_Wizard-8_15_2012

tl;dr highlights:
-every hydra rune except venom hydra is getting buffed.  I think this will make a Temporal Flux Arcane wiz build more viable, since Arcane Hydra will do just about 15-20% less than Venom Hydra now, which combined with 30% slow on hydra, magic missile and arcane orb hits equals awesomesauce.
-energy twister is getting nerfed, will proc half as often
-lesser used runes/skills are getting buffed, including meteor and arcane torrent

I never bothered to try the Wicked Wind wizard build, so energy twister getting nerfed doesn't bother me at all.  Like I said, I'm excited about trying out a Temporal Flux arcane build with Missile/Orb/Hydra.

I'm confused, I thought no one played this game because it was terrible?  ???

Seriously, tho- if you've invested a lot of money into high crit chance/dmg, the good news is that you can still totally play the game, just not as a semi-invincible cheeseball demigod.  In other words,  :stfu

I'm going to preface this by saying that I have spent by FAR most of my time in D3 playing as a wizard.  It's just what I enjoy.

But JESUS, these people.  They act like wizards have been shat upon from the beginning, because game sodomizing exploits (early force armor, CM) were knocked back.  And now WW will proc half as often, and it's like Hitler is lining up their mothers for a bunch of surprise sex or something and forcing them to watch.  I have probably one of the highest crit chances of someone who hasn't sunk tens of millions of gold or hundreds of dollars into it (40%+) and I'm not whining, because you can still totally play the game as a high crit wizard without using energy twister.  You just can't walk up to whatever, toss out a couple of tornadoes, spam diamond skin repeatedly anymore.  Bunch of fucking whiners.  Wizards have had a pretty easy time of it in D3 in my opinion- there are multiple different viable playstyles and builds.  YES, pretty much all of them involve venom hydra, but that's just because he's the actual star of the game.  Seriously.  If there's ever a D3 movie, it will start Vinnie the Venom Hydra, and his lovable yet squishy Wizard minder.

you guys got drama coming

http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/interview-diablo-creator-david-brevik-discusses-his-feelings-on-diablo-3
http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/diablo-3-developers-react-angrily-to-dave-brevik-interview

oh geeze, i guess this drama crashed their website

Here's the interview copy pasta:

Quote
IncGamers: You are very well known in the world of ARPGs, and I am going to ask you, Diablo 3 is probably the most anticipated PC title in 10 years. What’s your opinion on the final product?

David Brevik: Honestly, I think that they did a lot of the things the best they could, it was a very different game than I would have created, the team and personalities, the people, the talent and all the design philosophies of the people that worked on it in Irvine, we called them Blizzard South, those people have their own style and the their own way they like to design. It was very, very different from the Blizzard North.

So I think that when Blizzard South took over the development of Diablo 3 it was inevitable that they were going to create an experience that was in the Diablo theme but concentrated more towards the things that they liked to experience. Including more story and things like that.

When Blizzard North shut down they lost a ton of experience with why the Action RPG works and what about it works. That’s really difficult to recover from. They didn’t have the experience of people that knew it well. This is why you do things with random levels for example, and so when you lose that experience you are going to create a very different experience in the end than we would have created.

IncGamers: Do you think they bought the wrong people in? As we understand, Jay Wilson, for example, his background was RTS. From our point of view it looked like they misunderstood what kept people playing, The type of loot drops, which has been a big issues. One of the other issues is they have not listened to their community, and they have not anlaysed what makes up that addictive Diablo  experience. What are your thoughts on that?

David Brevik: Well, the loot system. They made some decisions with the loot system that were very different than the way that we did it in Diablo 2 and I think that obviously the community has been upset with some of the decisions they made. Having all of your powers work off your main weapon and things like that, to having blues that are more powerful than yellows. Eventually the auction house and how that worked, even something as simple as when you equip an item and it’s bound to your character permanently would  have totally changed the dynamic  of the game.

It seems odd that they have not really responded in a quick fashion to some of these things. I think they are very well aware of the problems at this point and are trying to fix some of this stuff. It’s a shame that they had to learn some of these painful lessons

IncGamers:  As you created Diablo, how do you feel about it? Do you feel a little let down that the legacy has kind of been mashed up?

David Brevik:  I have very mixed emotions about it (laughs). On one hand I am sad that people haven’t enjoyed Diablo because it’s a love, a passion, and its obvious people still have a giant love and passion for Diablo and they are speaking out about it because they have such love for it. That makes me feel great.

I am sad because people are outraged and, you know, some of the decision they have made are not the decisions I would make and there have been changes in philosophy and that hasn’t gone over very well. I think in that way I am a little sad.

I am also a little happy, which I hate to say, it shows that the people that were involved in Diablo really did matter, and so I am happy that it has come to light that how talented that group was and how unique and special that group was. I am hoping that, as this happens very often in the industry, you see it with Call of Duty and things like that ,  when the people leave the game changes and it shows how critical people are in this industry.

IncGamers:   One of the questions the Gazillion guys asked me to ask you was, where did the name Diablo come from?

David Brevik:  I thought of the game when I was in high school and I lived in the east part of San Francisco in a town called Danville and I loved at the base of Mount Diablo and that’s where the name comes from. Once I found out what the mountain name was, I thought that was awesome, I didn’t speak Spanish, so I thought I wanted to use that as a title for a nemesis in a videogame. It’s simply from where I lived.

IncGamers:    Well thanks a lot David, you’ve brought a lot of pleasure to millions of people over the years and hopefully you’ll continue to do so.

And then the followup drama

Ah the old 50 Cent "I sold more than you so I win" argument. Bleh

There's no question the people who worked on D3 put their heart and soul into it. It wasn't a game that was thrown together or rushed to meet deadline, and therefore deserves respect in the way it is critiqued. Personally I no longer play it but I did spend 70 plus hours on it - and liked most of that time. The problems I have can be patched, and are being addressed.

That being said, I think his comments are fair but it's not hard to see why the guys in the trenches would be upset. He doesn't trash the game, just gives his opinion. I think it's fair to say Blizzard has had issues with team transitions - does anyone think WoW is better now than it was a few years ago? In terms of SC2, it's slowly being turned into C&C in part due to being designed by the C&C guy instead of the original developers; overall I really like the game and spend hours watching and playing but I'm concerned about its future.

The funny thing is that almost all of my complaints in design choices with D3 have to do with it aping mmorpgs- cooldowns, enrage timers, a gajillion affixes for items, shit like that.  So hearing that Jay Wilson's background is in RTS games of all things is weird to me.

As for this "controversy" I don't give a shit at all.  I am absolutely NOT someone who deifies game developers.  They made a fucking game, they didn't suck your dick.  Get over yourselves, people.  There are some indisputable truths in all of this- yes, it certainly FEELS like D3 community managers/devs don't listen to the community, but then again when your community is a bunch of self-important fucktards I can't blame them to an extent.  Other truths: Hellgate London did in fact suck, and just because your game is the fastest selling pc game of all time doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement.

It's funny, Jay Wilson's blog for magic find and other shit is probably going to go live on the D3 site later today.  Perfect timing for this stupidity.

Oh, also etoilet, GW2 is going to fail hard, and it's combat sucks.  Now go scurry off.

I don't understand the freak out. "It was made by different people and was a different game than I would've made" is a pretty inoffensive thing to say.

There are cool downs in rts as well, and overall I'm sure some WoW folks worked on it. The comparisons have been blatant since it was revealed. Id imagine they wanted to appeal to that fan base while still being a Diablo game
